Anyone here taken advantage of the Grocery Ordering service available to DVC members? Talking about the one where you fax in your order with their form and then the groceries are delivered on your day of arrival.

Wondering if this really works like it says or if anyone has any comments?

I have done this and it was so convenient. What was interesting is several of the items I bought had prices less than advertised. Where a can of soda was $1.25, I was charged about $5.00 for six cans. Likewise, milk was cheaper and so were a couple of other things. If you have a car and don't mind spending the time to go to a store you can probably get better prices. However, if you are short on time and convenince is the key, it is a great service. I would definitely use it again.

I don't suppose those who are nonmembers and rented points from a member to stay in a villa can use this service, or can they? how can I find out about it?

Do you need to be 'home' when the groceries are delivered? If not, will the perishables be put into the frig/freezer?

The way I read it, it sounds like they will be in your "home" for your arrival. Let's hope they are smart enough to put the ice cream in the freezer!
Not sure if you are renting points, but would guess it's the same.
Have Fun!

Yes, they will put the perishables away. They generally leave the other items together on the counter so you can verify next to your receipt that you got all your items. I believe this service is available for anyone staying at a home away from home resort whether it be DVC or not or whether you are staying as a DVC member or not. I would suggest you call the hotel where you are staying and ask them to fax you a grocery list with the prices. You simply fill it out and fax it back with your credit card information.

Just FYI - there is another store just off disney property called Goodings. All you do is take Hotel Plaza Boulevard to the light at the end and cross the intersection. You will be pulling into the parking lot where Goodings is. Hotel Plaza Boulevard is one of the roads directly across the street from Disney Marketplace. Grosvner resort is on the corner.

Goodings can be pricey though. I remember the first time I went there. I knew I was in for something when I walked into a grocery store that had carpeted isles :) . Another option is to log onto netgrocer.com and shop on-line for items. They will deliver them to the resort for you to pick up when you arrive. Generally they are non-perishables. Then you could purchase your perishables at the resort in thier general store.

I had planned on shopping for perishables and breakables/crushables, such as eggs to be delivered. Space in the car will be limited as we have 6 of us going down. We are driving, and do have the opportunity of going to the grocery. But if I have all this delivered and then take some other staples, then I probably won't need to spend any time at the store--that equates to more fun time. I was thinking mostly milk, eggs, etc. delivered to the room.

Glad to hear that it works well.

To answer the question asked by Puffy2. We let our sister and her daughters use our points for a weeks stay at OKW and we used the Grocery service. We faxed the order from home and when they arrived their groceries were waiting for them. Milk, soda, eggs in the refrig, other items were placed on the counter with the receipt.
They were very surprised and it saved them a shopping trip. Worth the money!
