Grocery Delivery Handling Fee

I heard a rumour that they will start charging a $5 handling fee for any grocery deliveries that you order for your room. Has anyone heard of this and can confirm if it is true?

I haven't heard that yet, but I know they do charge that for boxes delivered to the resort. So if you order something delivered by UPS, USPS, etc. there is a fee per box. So far I haven't been charged for groceries, but wouldn't be surprised if it happens someday.

A day before our grocery delivery. Yeah, that figures.

That is a shame- I don't mind paying it because I always tip at least that but I feel it will decrease the $ earned by the folks actually doing the work.
I will still tip and for me the extra $5 is still worth it because of the total cost savings but again I think the CM's will feel the pinch and that's disappointing. (And yes if the groceries are in the room when we arrive I do take a walk over to bell services and tip at some point during the trip.)

Groceries arrived at Pop this past Thursday via Prime Now. No fee charged.

I agree that fee will replace a tip for most. I hope the fee ends up going to them.

I've never been charged a fee, even at convention resorts (which is where they supposedly do charge a fee; not the value resorts).

I get deliveries every trip.

This has been stated for many years, it is not new.

The CONVENTION resorts state that they can charge a fee per box, for items shipped to them. I have never been charged, but they reserve the right to do so. Many folks are charged this fee.

That fee is for packages as you state per box. Which I was charged at Beach Club once for an Amazon Prime package.

This is a NEW charge for items left at Bell Services, which has not been charged before.

Again, just another example of Disney's diminishing service for guests.

As I stated in another thread... we live in a free market economy so the market will let Disney know if these changes effect the bottom line. Myself, as a free market consumer I can choose to take my dollars elsewhere. My next trip I will be doing just that.

Where is this posted on Disney's website? If it is, then it's true. If not, then it may be just a rumor.

Honestly, I don't see it as a big deal.

Having those groceries delivered saves SO MUCH over buying in the parks-- even just the 2 cases of water we order represent a tremendous savings. If it costs me an extra $5, out of all the thousands we spend on a week at WDW, I can live with that.

So true!

I order groceries for the convenience. We drink a lot of water, I don't eat breakfast so my kid can have something in the room while we're getting ready, and I want some wine and snacks while winding down in the evening. An extra $5 is nothing, as well as a tip to Safeway for bringing it to the room, or the bell services for doing so.

I just placed our Garden Grocer order for next month. Since we're on a later flight, it will no doubt arrive at the resort before we do. But the savings in time is worth it to me.

Are the items limited to groceries or are strollers and ECV's also included in this new charge?

I don't like this.
I'm not sure.

Yes, the $5 isn't a lot of money, and you are paying for the convenience.

I imagine that for the resorts this has been an uptick in grocery delivery over the past few years... it used to be Garden Grocer was really your only option, now with Instacart, Amazon Prime NOW, and others I'm sure has created a lot more work for bell services. Any business would need to find a solution. I think it's preferable for a business to have a nominal cost increase (something Disney never does) vs. tacking on fees for everything. I feel the same about resort fees at other hotels.

For ME (emphasis on ME... as in this is only my opinion/feelings) this is another thing to add to the list of things Disney is either nickel & dime-ing guests on, or another drop in the level of service.
  • Installing pump soap/shampoo dispensers in bathrooms.
  • Expanding EMH & FP booking to off-site guests.
  • Offering club level 3 extra FP's for an extra $50/night.
  • Required entrance to your room everyday.
We're already paying inflated prices at these resorts for the convenient location, and the feeling of being in the Disney 'bubble'. For me the scale is tipping the other way in terms of being willing to pay top dollar to be at Disney for location, and a great level of service. Housekeeping has declined over the years, as well as staff friendliness IMO. We are booked in 2 weeks to stay at BC... it's too late for me to change now. Future trips I will be looking off-site first for the additional amenities they offer at a lower price point.

When people say $5 per box do they actually mean per box or per delivery? My small delivery of groceries came in 3 separate items - water, small bag refrigerator items and larger bag of everything else. It wouldn’t be worth it if they decided to charge per item rather than per delivery. Or at that point it might make it worth it to taxi to the nearest grocery store.

It is not a big deal. It's $5 for the convenience of being able to have this stuff dropped off for you instead of having to get it yourself. Oh no. /s

I have done grocery delivery before and I was shocked when I found out that Disney would accept, hold, and deliver it all for free. I wonder how much room they have for that sort of thing at bell services? This may be their way of trying to limit some of it due to lack of space at some resorts.

If your order is coming from Garden Grocer, Instacart or another grocery service it is a $5.00 flat fee. It is the order's coming UPS, FedEx etc. that the fee is per box.
