Grocery Coupon Train

I'm one of the new riders on this train and I have a question..... If people are sending out multiple envelopes (wish lists) which cost more in postage,etc. are you really making your money back in the coupons you receive? I have already spent $2.68 in postage and that was only sending two envelopes.

I have received great coupons from Jax677 (thanks!) and will definitely use more than $2.68 worth but if I was sending MORE envelopes (wish lists - which I hope to do some day) is it really worth it?

Just curious if you are breaking even, coming out ahead or don't care? For the record I totally get that the friendships ,daily messages and the envelopes in the mail are worth it to be on this train, just wondering if it pays to be super active sending out multiple envelopes.

First off, hola chica!!!!! Welcome to the train.

Here is what I can tell you about me and my experience with this train. I signed up after watching a while and getting teased by a certain someone who shall remain nameless.....lol I have a real issue with throwing money away and rather than see a pile of useless coupons going in the trash each week, I saw myself throwing money away that someone else could use. Essentially I joined to have someone to SEND to rather than receive. Then I found out very quickly just how much fun and beneficial it was to be on the receiving end as well!!!!

The thing to keep in mind is that the sending of extra envies is not something you have to do. You only "have to" send to your regular person each week and even if you have someone you send specials to, you don't have to do it each week. Wait till you "get your money's worth" out of each stamp. Then what usually happens is (since we are all just the bestest folks on the net!) we repay each other by checking the request list of the person sending to us and send them their special requests. So does it work out over the long haul? I think it more than works out. Do I keep track? Nope and no interest in doing so. This is a hobby for me that saves me a ton of money compared to the tons of other useless things I got interested in in life! lol

For my personal experience and example. I send to my regular girl each week, and get my regular envie each week, so that right there is a wash with the postage. I do not send out wish list envies each week, I think this is the third week I have done it, sent about 2 each week...however, I have also received about 10+ envies. I have so many cereal coupons right now, that there is no way I will use them all, so I passed some on last week to the other girl requesting them...hope she got them?

Like mskayjay said, I don't keep track of who I send the wish list coupons to, nor do I keep track of who sent to me...I just know that if I have a few to send their way, and it is someone that posts regularly , then I don't mind sending them to them. I'm not willing to waste money either, and I didn't start this for any other reason than for us to save some money. Being a sahm mom I have to try to save as much as I can when I can, and still even with sending a few wish list envies out "here & there", I'm still doing good with my savings, better than if I wasn't in the train. You'll get there Jan, you'll see that you will get a lot of a particular coupon that someone wants, when you do and are able to, send it on. Then when she gets some you are looking for she will repay the favor. I think a lot of this has to do with how much we chat with one another, that person stays active in our mind. We have about 60 people on board this train, there are only about 20 of us that post often, and I think we are the same 20 that seem to be doing really well with the savings. Sqeaky wheel gets the grease in a way. Not that I don't adore the other 40 people that are very quiet, but you understand right?

I more than break even. The great people on this train help out so much. Besides that they are crazy and don't want to tick them off.

Leleluvsdis is not on here much but she mentioned she wanted dog food coupons. I asked her what kind but if she responded I did not see it. Gardengal also likes pet coupons.

I keep a Word File of the wishlist (I check each week to see if it's updated) and the address I get from Corinna or the person I keep in file with their wish list.

When I get my coupons I take out what I will use and then I get my sender's erady and I check the wish list to see who needs what and if I have some I set them aside. Some weeks I get more inserts and I figure my sender doesn't need that many multiples (unless on her wish list) so I set more aside for the wish list.

I haven't often sent out just 1 coupon to a wish list (unless it was expiring soon or something), but wait until I get a few to send. I know that recently I asked if anyone had a specific coupon and I got many sent to me by the generous riders (Thanks everyone! ) so in the long run I think it all evens out.

I also keep an envelope that I fill for Sleepy of expired coupons and they get sent out monthly to her.

I love being a part of the train! And thankful to Corinna for keeping the train on track-She does a fantastic job keeping up with all of us crazy people!!

Okay now its going to drive me nuts..can't remember if it was AFC or HCW but one of them had a link on the freebies for a free bag of litter. I know how that adds up. I miss having cats but not the litter box. Extra blessings to those of you who deal with litter boxes.....its harder than having dogs imho!
