Hi. So we'll be at AKV next months for about 10 days. We won't have a car with us. We were thinking of using one of the grocery delivery services. Can anyone offer any recommendations? Are they all about the same? I see that there's one on the DVC member site, but I wasn't sure if there were better options out there..

There are 4 to pick from. You can order from Disney, WeGoShop.com, GardenGrocer.com or rent a car for a day and you can self serve.

We used GG and had problems with the order having missing and incorrect items on a Friday. They didn't fix the mistakes until Monday afternoon and it took a couple of phone calls to get it done.

When we have used WeGoShop, we didn't have any problems.

We prefer to rent a car, get what we want, where we want, and we eat off site for dinner. The car rental is about the same cost as the delivery fee, mark up with GG and the tip.

Fifth option is Whole Foods, you can order from them - their employees get the stuff off the shelves and delivery is done by Doorstop Delivery.

6) Take a taxi. It cost us $11 each way from SSR to Winn Dixie in January. We didn't have the hassle of picking up or returning a car, we were done in about an hour, could see what was on sale, pre-made foods, wine selection etc.

Please tell me more about the taxi option, please. How many people rode there and did you just call them to pick you back up, or did they wait? I'll be staying at OKW, what grocer is the closest to OKW, with good prices and some prepared food like rotisary chicken?

Actually we've done the taxi route many times. Once it was 4 of us because we had friends of ours staying with us, sometimes it's just DH & myself & sometimes if we just need a few things, just DH will go. Last time DH just had the guy wait because he was only getting a couple of things & the driver didn't even run the meter. Usually we will call & have them come back, because I hate to be rushed.

Winn Dixie is only a couple of miles from the DTD resorts, you can order a courtesy card on-line & they do have prepared foods like rotisserie chicken.

We do not have a Wynn Dixie in Oklahoma. What is a courtesy card on-line ?
Could you also tell me what address it would be? There seems to be several WD in Orlando.
One last question when you took extra people in taxi, was the cost about the same as the other's quote of $11 each way? I appreciate your help, as I was considering a delivery service, but I would prefer to buy my own groceries. Thanks.

A courtesy card just allows you to take advantage of any discounts they may be offering that week & also to write a check if you choose.

They did not charge us any more for extra people.

Oh & when I said "on-line" I meant you could fill out the form on-line to get the courtesy card mailed to you.

I have used Garden Grocer several times & have already placed my order for spring break (including some beer and water). I use them because they have a place to add a tip online & I can just pre-pay with a credit card. I schedule the delivery window for right before I expect we'll arrive and they leave it with Bell Services. Bell Services will refrigerate anything that needs to be kept cold. Then when we check in we just retrieve the order along with our Owners Locker. We don't even have to be there - so no waiting around for the order & no lost vaca time to go shopping. :thumbsup2

One time we used Happy Limo with a 30 minute grocery stop included to get to our resort. I pre-ordered via fax with an Albertson's (the one recommended by the limo co.) and they had our order ready & waiting in a cart that was stored in a gigantic walk-in refrigerator. While we were there we grabbed a couple other things we saw on sale & threw them into the cart. In & out...easy peasy.:thumbsup2 There was also a liquor store next door & by pre-ordering we still had time to run next door to grab a couple bottles too. BONUS!! :rotfl:
