Groceries--through DVC or Gardengrocer??

Hi all!

Trip is getting closer :cool1: and I'm starting to think GROCERIES.

Trying to decide if I want to use the DVC order form or order through Gardengrocer.

Can someone explain the differences? I'm assuming that ordering through DVC is more expensive, but would they put the groceries in our room if we're not there? That could be worth the extra cost...?? I'm sure that if we order through Gardengrocer they will have to leave them with Bell Svcs?

We are landing at 1:35 and know it will take us a long time to get through the ME process and get to the resort...but we want to hit the MK as soon as we possibly can. I won't want to wait for a grocery order, but we will need the groceries for the next morning.

Can someone enlighten me as to the differences between the two, and the process for each so I can decide?

Thanks so much!

Chris

Well, I haven't used of these services, but I've used www.wegoshop.com and have been very happy with it. The Orlando We Go Shop is run by a very nice family who brings the groceries directly to your room. They do need you to be in the room when they arrive, so you need to set up a specific time.

The selection of Disney groceries is quite limited. The prices are high but not terrible (probably better than Gooding's, who will deliver groceries.) The main reason I use We Go Shop is that We Go Shop can buy you basically anything sold in the Kissimmee area.

I have never used DVC's but I have used the other one and it was GREAT service. My shopping list arrived on time, everything was there and the cold items arrived cold!!!.

I will used them again for sure... Good Luck!

I have used GG several times and have been pleased with their service each time. One time they had forgotten one of the items we ordered but they brought it an hour or so. The last couple of times they brought our items before we arrived at the resort and left them with bell services. They called us and told us the order was with bell services at our resort. Once we got into our room, we called bell services and they brought everything up to us. Items that needed to be refrigerated or frozen were kept that way.

It is so nice to have your groceries at the resort and ready to put in your room as soon as your room is ready. I would highly recommend GG.

With DVC, I believe they will stock your room before you arrive but their prices are higher. I've always wondered what happens to your groceries if they give your assigned room to someone else before you arrive?????????

I think it really depends on how much you plan on getting. For larger grocery orders we always use GG. They are professional and courteous. I believe they charge $12.00 per delivery, plus we usually give a tip. Anything over $200 is free delivery.

For smaller, quicker trips we use DVC grocery service.

Good luck, and have fun!

I found that the DVC grocery list was rather limited so I've always used GG or Goodings.

I'm with the OP, trip coming up and trying to decide which service to use. OP, hope you don't mind me tagging along on your inquiry.

One question I had, was whether any of the services would deliver alcohol? Beer and wine to be exact. Or with that, are you left to buying it at the DVC sundries shop?

Also, what type of time-frame windows do they give? Is it pretty specific (couple of hours) or cable guy type (8am to 6pm)?

*Don't mean to offend any cable person.

Thanks, everyone, for the valuable info.

Welcome to the thread, Ryanmilla...hop right on in! I think I'm going with Gardengrocer (I'm enjoying making my list using brands I know, etc.)

Thanks again for the help, everyone!

Chris

We just returned from our trip to WDW and used gardengrocer. The entire process was simple. Online ordering, pay with credit card and delivery to our home resort. I called bell services when we arrived and asked them to deliver my items. The frozen items were frozen and the cold items were cold.
We did not have to be present for delivery as we paid with a credit card. We would definately use the service again!

We have used GG on our past 2 WDW trips (prior to becoming DVC members-never been yet with DVC). Both times, they have been very good. They got our orders correct, items were with Bell Services before we arrived, cold items had been refrigerated. We were very pleased.

For this next trip, however, we will be at DVC during Christmas. Will still probably eat lunch and dinner on property, but due to crowds will be in our room more than in our past trips. We will also be driving, so we don't know if we are going to do GG, wegoshop or stop at Wal-Mart on the way in and buy our own. However, the negative to buying our own is that the level of excitement in our car will probably be way to high to make a grocery stop!!!!

We used GardenGrocers on our last trip Dec 07 and they were wonderful. They were right on time delivering the food, the order was correct, and they were able to get many items that were not listed on their website which was great!!! ;) I would use them again. :thumbsup2

I haven't used DVC, but I did try GG last summer and it was great. The timing worked out really good too! We had just got settled in to the room and they arrived. The very nice young man put the groceries away even and had me check to make sure everything was there. I liked them so much, I'm going to use them again this summer!:thumbsup2

GG will deliver beer and wine. In the comments section when you place your order, just add what you want them to get. It won't be added into your total immediately. Since I pay by CC, I usually call them the day before we arrive to get the total for alcohol.

It is a two-hour time frame that you choose but I have found on the last couple of trips that they have called to ask me if it was ok to deliver it early. I'm usually at MCI when they call.

This is great to hear. Thanks for all of the information. Sounds like we have several good choices.

We used WeGoShop in January and loved it. I like the fact that they shopped where I wanted them to go (Wal-Mart Supercenter) so I know the prices are really good. Gardengrocer you paid the amount on their website and I thought the prices were high. We went to the local WMS and picked out all the brands, sizes and wrote down prices so we knew how much it would be.

We will definately use them again for our next trip.

I read a couple of posts in this thread that folks who used the grocery delivery services and had them delivered to bell services because they weren't there to receive the groceries - had the cold food stay cold and the frozen food stay frozen.

How is that possible. does bell services put the food into refridgeration?

Thank you.
