Has anyone ever brought groceries in their suitcases? I want a particular brand of some items and don't want to go shopping when I'm there. Are their regulations for checked luggage? Where could I find this information. Thanks for anyone who can help!!

I don't know of any grocery item that you couldn't pack. You can ask on the Transportation board. I had a question once about bringing a pie as a carry on and it was answered for me there.

I brought a frozen turkey breast in a cooler and it was no problem. In fact, TSA got a kick out of it.

Though I agree that no grocery items are really PROHIBITED, TSA has recommended in the past that you do NOT pack food in checked luggage. Among the items they had mentioned was chocolate. Apparently there are quite a few items that the dogs will react to in the same way they do to drugs. They will then need to hand search the luggage and determine what the dog is "hitting" on. So, I guess I would use discretion when choosing items to pack, especially in terms of the way they are packaged in case they need to be searched for some reason.

Oh yes, we do it each time. Non-perishables are the best (we always pack breakfast cereals or muffin mixes, and fruit snacks or cookies, nothing too fancy), but on our trip last Oct. we also put in a couple of "really" frozen items as well (chicken breast and breakfast sausages) so they aren't quick thawed by the time they end up in the room (our garage freezer is turned up higher than the kitchen one, so things say frozen longer when stored in that one). Never had a problem with it.

TSA has not confisacated anything yet, but as the pp'ers stated, you might want to check the airline or tsa websites, and search for additional answers on the transportation board...they are a wealth of info in that regard.

:scared1: That is something I would really Love to Avoid!!!

There is a large informative thread on this in the budget section. (who knew yogurt could freeze?) My biggest concern is if I tried to pack beer it would explode. :confused3

I took 70 pounds of frozen Texas BBQ once for our family reunion:rotfl:

Needless to say, my family is still laughing!:lmao:

We have sent a box ahead of us a number of times, usually set to arrive the day before. We have sent food items (mostly dry goods, coffee, etc) along with bath robes and other bulky stuff. Then on to the plane with small bags. Before leaving, we print out a UPS shipping sticker to ship back the clothes and all of the cool souvenirs we somehow needed.

Be sure to mark clearly on the outside of the box your name, anticipated arrival date and time, reservation #, etc.

We have never had a problem, we just check with bell services and it arrives at our room. We have also picked it up at bell services (mostly SSR).

Shipping home is just as easy. Deliver your box to bell services, note the prepaid label, wave goodbye, and board the ME! :)

I've packed food in my suitcase each time I've gone for years. Never a problem. It always comes back full of souvenirs and things I couldn't live without from The Disney Outlets store.

I've also checked in a large ice chest sealed tightly and full of frozen items. But only on Southwest since you can still bring two suitcases for free.

I once packed a small suitcase (before all these fees for extra bags!) with cereal and kid snacks. By the end of our trip it was empty enough for souvenirs! :)

Now I just usually ship a box of our stuff ahead of time. UPS Ground is typically cheaper than the baggage fees! :thumbsup2

Since SW is still allowing 2 checked bags per person I'll probably pack both a small cooler and a bag of dry goods again. I've never had a problem. At PVD they have us stand off to the side as each item is scanned so we're there if there's any issue. I've seen them open the cooler just to be sure (by the way any non-suitcase item needs to have a disclaimer signed in case they damage it) and twice when I've bundled my computer, phone & camera charger wires up in the same case as peanut butter it's been flagged for opening as it just looks odd on the screen... trying to remember to keep the wires in the clothing suitcases.

Don't mean to read too much between the lines but based on your response, ya might wanna go get what you need once you get there. Might be worth it after all. ;)

:rotfl::laughing::rotfl:

I'm not hiding anything, but if you've ever been pulled aside by security at O'Hare airport in Chicago, you'd be careful what you pack! I purchased a pack of disposable razors and just threw them in my vanity case before we left. Well, they didn't like that at all! You'd think I was a terrorist. They said I didn't need a Whole Package of razors for one trip! They pulled me aside while my DH and four kids watched from the sidelines. They weren't allowed to approach to see what the trouble was. I can laugh at it now, but at the time it was serious and very scary. I'm very careful what I pack now!

We usually bring a carry-on sized bag with non-perishable food and check it with our other luggage. TSA has gone through it more often than not. It's usually just dry cereal, pretzels, microwave popcorn, peanut butter, etc. Everything is in it's original, unopened package. We've never had a problem. Once our trip is over and the food has been eaten, we have an empty piece of luggage to bring out souvenirs home.

On various trips, I have packed oatmeal packets, tea, applesauce cups, a 6-pack of V8, cheese, popcorn, cookies, Cheez-its, two pans of lemon squares, a tray of Lebanese pastries, a box of cereal, a box of wine, and a fifth of Captain Morgan (in a plastic bottle).

A couple of those items may have led to a bag search, but nothing was really disturbed in my bag.

We have on of those rolling coolers --
When we go to Disney or Aruba (our two fave vacation spots) we always fill it up and check it.

Never had a problem....

I have not checked alcohol or anything in cans -- but bottled water, etc. that's fine.

When I went down to Florida to see my DS at Disney College he wanted some of his favorite foods that he missed. I had to pack a gallon of apple cider in so many plastic bags and in a soft sided cooler that I thought they would take it out of my suitcase but it made it there in one piece. I also carried on a small cooler with meat pies, brownies and some other stuff they never said a word. Good Luck

Agree! I can't go anywhere without the Captain!!:rotfl: He is the MAN!!! :rotfl2:

OK...anybody ever pack beer (in cans)?!?!?!?!? Would it explode?? I wish there weren't so many weight restrictions...

That's my question. I can do OK with wine, but the carbonation in beer scares me..
