Groceries/Food for your Room

Just got my confirmation from wegoshop.com but they changed the delivery time of my groceries. I originally asked for a 1 pm delivery and they have me scheduled for 11:30. Now normally this wouldn't be a problem but I only arrive in Orlando at 9:18 so that really doesn't leave much wiggle room for a late arrival, traffic to the resort etc. But I guess they know what works! ;)

What are their delivery and service fees like?

We usually do breakfast and lunch in our villa and dinner out. We hit the hit the parks at rope drop and return to the villa around noon for lunch. We don't go over board just deli meats, rolls, hot dogs, etc. We also spend the afternoons napping and/or swimming and then return to the parks in the evening.

It's based on the total of the grocery order. I don't remember it being too outrageous. Besides, if I didn't use them and had to solely rely on getting stuff on-site I'd be paying WAY more money. Plus they work with you and will go anywhere you want them to go to shop.

Here's their site if you want to check it out.

Hey all. This is a bit off topic but still relevant. We always take a small camelback backpack into the parks. Before we leave The room we load it with ice and water. The water stays cool most of the day an also cools down your back during those balmy days. When a refill is needed we get a couple of free glasses of ice water from a CS or snack station. We also love these because the backpacks are relatively small in size so they are a breeZe to carry and still hold all the essentials.

They'll leave them with bell services, and bell services will put your refrigerated stuff in the fridge and the frozen stuff in the freezer. I prefer to have groceries delivered before I arrive, that way I pick them up from bell services whe. I want them, I'm not interrupting my unpacking to run down when they show up. Or not having a case of coke in the room yet because we reached the resort faster and still have an hour before the end of the delivery window.

Actually this delivery service is different. Because alcohol is part of my order they can't/won't (not sure) leave with bell services unless I accept first. It would be so much easier if they would, but it is what it is. I spoke to the owner and she feels the time will work but did ask that I call/text if delayed.

We get beer, wine, and snacky stuff. Bagels, cream cheese, cheese, some deli turkey, some chips & dip, some snack crackers. With this kind of thing you can have a snack, or something a little more substantial. We love to stop at Publix and buy the stuff for the resort. Part of the fun of DVC for us.:earsboy:

That's one of the reasons I pay a little more and get the booze at the screen door, again, on my own schedule.

And I think that's exactly what I'm going to do next trip.

Mouse Concierge can leave it with bell service if you have an alcohol order. They even text you with the exact location (shelf number and / or place in the refrigerator). This was great the last time we went because our flight came in late and we would have definitely missed her.

We usually ship a box of dry goods and snacks that we plan on eating, Food is sometimes cheaper from home than that at the grocery stores that deliver. You can ship directly to the resort you are staying at. Be sure to put your reservation number on the box. When you get to resort, go to bell services to retrieve you package.

Eating in the room makes it easier to stay on an healty eating plan, that's for sure. I low carb and have recently given up wheat as well, which will make a studio kitchen a challenge. But, with the exception of the whole wheat sandwich thins I used to get, my shopping list will be pretty much the same - Kenyan Coffee (from AKL) - veggie tray (with dips), fruitbowl, rotisserie chicken, boars head ham and cheese, bagged salad, grape tomatoes, italian dressing, eggs, bacon from publix.

On a long stay, I'll drive out to the world Market near Lakeland - for lunch, the fun of it, and fresh Florida fruits and veggies.

I eat one meal a day out at my favorite restaurants, when I Do go off plan for something special (like the Plaza's home made chips).

I pack from home a small cutting board and a sharp knife, s&p. Once on a 3 week trip, I bought a cheap crock pot, and ate just like home. Very nice to come home to a bubbling stew.

We order from WeGoShop. We plan breakfast in the room everyday, so we'll order eggs, bread, milk, OJ, hashbrowns, butter, and bacon.

Depending on how much room we have in the suitcase, we sometimes order the nonperishables and sometimes pack from home things like cereal, pancake mix, coffee, cream, sugar, syrup, Nesquick, hot cocoa packets, muffin mixes that are just add water, and nonstick spray. If I can pack something like a partially used can of nonstick spray from home, then I don't feel so bad throwing it out at the end of the trip if we don't have room to bring it home. The grocery suitcase on the way down becomes my souvenier suitcase on the way home.

We also get frozen pizzas, cheese and crackers, grapes, place and bake cookies, pasta and sauce, and drinks.

The main thing is, think about how much time you want to spend in the room and then plan some meals that are easy to prepare. Don't forget to think about everything you need to prepare the meal. If you bring a brownie mix and then realize that you have to get oil and eggs at the gift shop, it's not so economical anymore.

We do breakfast in the room because it's cheap to cook and we want to be at the parks before rope drop and not have to stop touring until lunch. We do somtimes have things leftover that we have to leave, but if we spent $150 on groceries and saved $700 on restaurant meals, I'll deal with a little waste.

So I guess that you drive to. Might be a little more expensive to do this idea with the suitcase if you fly? Or if you fly, how does the airline like it with the opened items?

Good points! I appreciate them! My fear is that I'll spend too much on groceries then not eat them because we're too tired to cook or at the parks/pool the whole time. Last December were were at POR for free dining plus I bought snacks. We ended up leaving so much because we couldn't finish everything. I was sad because I hate to waste.

We had 2 ADRs for dinner then the rest I was going to play by ear.

Thanks for the perspective!

This is my fear too. We're not on any dining plan and spend a lot of time at the resort and pool. My lists are crazy long though.

We use studios so I don't "cook". We only eat breakfast in the room. I order groceries from Garden Grocer to include a case or 2 of water (depending on the length of the trip), a case of beer, frozen waffles, sm. margarine, syrup, fresh berries (to slice up & eat with the waffles), lg. chocolate milk for DS, creamer for coffee (which I bring from home), diet coke, and some donuts and / or pop tarts and maybe bagels. I generally bring snacks from home (crackers etc.) We eat the donuts and / or pop tarts on mornings that we hit early openings and generally eat the waffles on "normal" mornings. (FWIW Garden Grocer WILL leave beer / alcohol with bell services if you're not there to receive it.)

We also never quite finish everything as sometimes plans change. We wasted our last mornings waffles on our last trip bcuz we decided to try breakfast at Kouzzina's on our last morning. We also left about 6 or 8 bottles of water (not bad out of 2 cases of 32) and about 3 diet cokes. I just left them in the corner and figured Mousekeeping would take them. Even though we wasted a few items we still saved a lot of money over what we would've paid to buy them at Disney.
