Groceries/Food for your Room

I ordered from WeGoShop for my 4 night August trip in a studio. Water, FRUIT, milk, cereal, yogurt, cheese and crackers. Basic stuff, but it was gone when we left!

I also ordered half and half for coffee, that was over the top, too much left over. I'll leave it out the next time!

We bought food for th first time at Christmas. We rented a car and went to publix. We really enjoyed having food for breakfast and snacks. I have never done that before and will buy food from now on

We normally eat 4 out of 6 breakfasts in our room, which will consist of bagels w/cream cheese, juice, coffee & cream. I don’t make bacon or eggs in the room, I’m not looking for a lot of clean up while I’m on vacation. We normally try to eat a late lunch/early dinner each day at one of our favorite restaurants on property with one night in our room eating leftovers from our meals out. We don’t usually eat 3 meals a day; it’s just too much food.

I will pack in an insulated lunch box w/a freezer ice pack the cream cheese for bagels, sometimes frozen bagels or I get them at the resort store, sticks of cheese, a lime for my hubbies gin & this year I’m going to try freezing half n half & putting that in the lunch box. I then put the lunch box in my suitcase; everything makes it FL nice and cold.

I pack crackers (for the cheese), microwave popcorn, tea bags, apple cider packets, cocoa packets and any other snacks I think we might want in zip lock plastic bags & put them in the suitcase. I have coffee filters and other essentials in my owners locker which is a very handy item to have; if you don’t have one yet you should look into getting one especially if you plan to go to Disney on a regular basis.

I have shipped a box to myself several yrs in a row but that isn’t as convenient as it used to be at the BWV. I think they are trying to discourage people from shipping items to themselves, they would rather you make your purchases on site. It was a good way to ship wine & other items that I didn’t want to pack; I would ship from my work at a reduced rate so it was cost effective. I don’t think I will be shipping a package to myself this year due to the changes that have taken place over the past couple of yrs at BWV & it’s not the expensive to just buy a bottle or two of wine at the resort store.

We have breakfast in the Villa, but I don't generally cook big meals on vacation.
We use wegoshop to deliver.
I usually buy fruit, juice, English muffins etc. Coffee, water, soda, beer, wine, cheese and crackers and other snacks.
We enjoy eating our main meal out, it is part of the experience for us.

I'm actually putting a list together right now for WeGoShop! I usually eat breakast in the room so I'll order Cereal or some English Muffins, OJ, Milk and maybe eggs. Then the basics; Diet Coke, water maybe some snacks and my wine coolers. Yes Cee - I put them on the order. I'll make the sacrafice and hang around until Kathy arrives with the order! Hahaha...

But for dinner I like eating out. That's part of the vacation experience for me. When home; I cook!!

We bring a suitcase full of stuff, cereal, crackers, granola bars, pop tarts.... things that won't spoil or get our suitcase searched (like peanut butter). Enough to get us to a day we can go to Publix
There we'll hit the deli department, Fried Chicken, Roasted Chicken, Potato Salad, Lunch Meats, Bread. Also the frozen food section has some good items. Don't forget the frozen seafood section and the Pod Cast Crew highly recommend the sushi. The point is things we don't have to spend time cooking but still make for a nice meal. And with a dish washer clean up is a breeze.
Oh yeah the empty suite case is used for souvenirs.

If you don't have a car, you can get your groceries delivered. We like WeGoShop, another popular service is Garden Grocer, but we had problems with them. DW makes a dining schedule and orders food based on the menu for our stay. We tend to order less than we need and supplement from the resort store if necessary. Any left over un-opened food we leave for the Mousekeepers.

:earsboy: Bill

Good idea to leave the unused for housekeeping. :thumbsup2

Has anyone had two deliveries? I hate to pay the fee twice but with 11 days, I'm thinking things will run out or go bad...bread, milk, fruit....any tricks to keeping the mentioned fresh?

At home we eat out about once a week so eating out for all of our meals on vacation is just too much. We have breakfast in the room most days (cereal or a bagel plus fruit, juice and coffee). We have dinner in the room once or twice during the week. On one of those nights we eat leftovers from the restaurant meals. It bothers me to leave food on my plate in a restaurant (or worse, to stuff myself) so we started bringing leftovers "home" and have a leftover night once during our stay.

We keep and eat our leftovers too. The waste drives me crazy!

We ship a box down with cereal, snack stuff, Mac n cheese, soup, soy butter (son has peanut allergy), jelly, crystal light, brownie mix, pasta, sauce and laundry detergent. It is cheaper than garden grocer. From garden grocer, we get dairy products and fruit. We eat all breakfasts, a couple of lunches and a couple of dinners in our room. We don't eat out much, so we like to on vacation. But for our 9 night trip, we only have 5 TS ADRs planned. I will pack more snack food this trip as or 4 boys are starting to eat out us out of house and home.

LOL! Hang on until sustenance arrives! :thumbsup2

Absolutely....I'll go to the pool until I hear from them!! I gotta have my wine coolers. Besides; the "Screen Door" doesn't carry the ones I like and the price....well let's just say I'm better off hanging around! Hahahaha....

Just got in to Kidani Village yesterday.. We have 5 kids with us ( my 4+ a friend lol) so my shopping list might be a bit different. We get eggs, butter, coffee and filters , breads, pb&j, frozen pizza, ingredients to make tacos, ingredients to make breaded chicken cutlets ( a favorite of the kids), pasta, cereal, oatmeal, cold cuts ( public sells Boars head), rice, fruit, frozen waffles, lots of snacks, 2 cases of water and Corona light lol

Good points! I appreciate them! My fear is that I'll spend too much on groceries then not eat them because we're too tired to cook or at the parks/pool the whole time. Last December were were at POR for free dining plus I bought snacks. We ended up leaving so much because we couldn't finish everything. I was sad because I hate to waste.

We had 2 ADRs for dinner then the rest I was going to play by ear.

Thanks for the perspective!

We always plan on breakfast in the villa, and we decide ahead of time which restaurants we will go to. Then we punt from there and plan a couple of specific meals for the villa. We just make sure we use up what we have. We really don't buy anything different than we do at home for a week. Maybe a little less because we tend to eat out more, but we don't change WHAT we buy. We tend to cook the same type of meals in the villa that we do at home. I don't eat beef, so we sometimes bring frozen buffalo along and make sure we use that up before we go home. If we have too much of something, it's not a big deal. If it's unopened, we either leave it for housekeeping or most often, go out and find someone checking in and give it to them. If it's opened and we couldn't use it, we chuck it. I have been known to pack things like potatoes into the corners of my suitcase on the way home though!:rotfl:

We shop at Winn-Dixie for breakfast items, lunch meat for sandwiches when spending a day at the pool and most important Mt Dew and Pepsi.

We don't have a Winn-Dixie at home, but I have signed up for their loyalty card to be sure to get the sale prices. We have saved over $100 by using the card every vacation.

Does WeGoShop have a better selection than garden grocer?

Garden Grocer just has a list of items to choose from and you pay their marked up price.

WeGoShop will go to the grocery store of your choice and shop from a list you send them. You pay the price the store charges, plus a delivery fee and commission. They include the grocery store receipt with your order so you can see exactly what they paid. The fee depends on the total price of the order. I believe we paid $24 for delivery and 10% commission. I thought it was well worth it since our groceries were waiting for us upon check-in and all the perishables were stored appropriately. They even put the beer in the fridge which my husband grealy appreciated since it was almost midnight by the time we got to our room.

We vacation a lot about 4 weeks a year but not all at Disney. However, they are all in timeshares. At Disney we tend to eat out more than other vacations.

For Disney, we usually go about 10 plus days since we are traveling from the West Coast. I'll usually plan 2 to 3 breakfasts out and then, the rest in. I do notice that my family is more hungry in the morning so, I tend to more hearty breakfasts. I try and make sure our meals can used on more than one meal. For example, if I buy sour dough bread, I'll make grilled cheese with it and then, if we have leftovers at the end of the trip I'll make either french toast or french toast cassorole in the oven. Other good breakfast items are plain bagel sandwich with bacon or ham with eggs and cheese. My family also likes plain bagel with cream cheese and salami for lunch/dinner. Or if I buy tortillas I'll buy enought to make quesdillas for lunch, egg/bacon burritos for breakfast and chicken tacos for dinner. One of my favorite things to do on our other vacations is to shop at Costco and buy either marinated tri-tip or turkey breast (depends on the season as some of this stuff is seasonal), mashed potatoes or scalloped potatoes, steamed carrots for dinner. If it is near Thanksgiving time I'll get cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, etc.. We'll use the leftover meat for sandwiches all week. Then, I'll also buy hummus to eat the leftover carrots with. But we generally don't shop at Costco at WDW but I do on my other timeshare vacations. I generally don't buy too many snacks for Disney world because you are eating so much as it is that the snacks go to waste except I will buy fruit as we rarely order that with meals. I'll buy yogurt and granola bars so, we could have that breakfast knowing we can take the granola home on the plane ride. Last time we were at WDW for 15 days but 5 days were on cruise. Anyways, I ordered 3 cases of water and we went through all of it but it was June. You can freeze water bottles to use as for ice in your lunch sack. So, you can add grapes and other fruit and keep it cool. I've even froze grapes. Makes a great snack. If I was only going for a short trip like 4 or 5 days I would really not order much except breakfast and water. We are kinda of lucky to be able to order food for longer trip. On average we spend about $150 on groceries just for breakfast, sandwiches, fruit and waters.

My other vacations I have list of easy items to make like marinated beef fajitas, marinated chicken tacos, shepherd's pie, Lasagna (homemade), spaghetti, fish (if we are in Hawaii---we will grill this daily), steaks with grilled shrimp, etc... I get a lot of recipes from Rachel Ray as her meals are delicous and quick and don't taste like frozen or out of box.

Good luck...

I think Garden Grocer's prices may seem high depending on where you live. For us, living in the Bay Area, California, doesn't seem out of whack at all.

Also, I've had more screw ups with wegoshop and it is not because the person is a bad shopper but we have different products here on the West Coast. So, it is hard to ask for something when you have no idea what the brand name is on the East Coast. If I use wegoshop, I look at local grocery store for product name and sizes. Oh and the sizes are different. Can drive someone batty... LOL...

But I agree with you the prices are no different than home.

Just got my confirmation from wegoshop.com but they changed the delivery time of my groceries. I originally asked for a 1 pm delivery and they have me scheduled for 11:30. Now normally this wouldn't be a problem but I only arrive in Orlando at 9:18 so that really doesn't leave much wiggle room for a late arrival, traffic to the resort etc. But I guess they know what works! ;)
