In July we will be staying at VWL with 3 children under the age of 6. We are thinking of carrying on the plane a few bags filled with pop tarts, fruit snacks, cookies, etc... Is it worth it for us to travel this way or should we just do the grocery shopping before hand and have it delivered to the villa? If so, how do we do this? Do they charge an arm and a leg for the service? :confused3

When we fly places I usually put snacks like that in the kids backpacks with their toys for the flight. Each person with a ticket can carry on one personal item (purse, etc) and one actual carry on.

I reccomend www.wegoshop.com

We've used them on our last five trips and they have been absolutely awesome. Their fee is very small and they will shop at any store you want them to. They deliver everything right to your room. We usually have them shop at the Wal-Mart Supercenter since we are familiar with their brands and pricing. We really, really love this service!

When you say " a few bags filled with" do you mean groceries distributed among a few of your bags that are packed with other things, or do you mean literally a few extra bags of groceries along with your luggage? If you mean literally extra bags of groceries in addition to your luggage, I don't think the airlines will let you do this since there are limits on how many pieces you can have.

What we did was put a box of Pop Tarts in each of the kids' backpacks, and a box of granola bars or cereal bars in each of our other carry-ons. We didn't take that many groceries so it worked out fine. If you're planning on more groceries than that, you'd probably do better to either have them shipped to your resort or using an online grocer. Or, if you're taking a towncar to your resort from the airport, most of them offer the option of a free grocery stop. I know that Florida Tours, the company I use, has this option.

I packed a carry on bag with food, mainly snacks. It's nice to have that room in the bag at the end of the trip for souveniers. You might check the delivery service prices though. I think they have menus online. Some of them also have minimum purchases, I think $50. So if you're planning on having them deliver milk, bottled water, bread and lunch meat, you might want to get all of your food from the delivery service.

Oh, how very cool! Thanks for the info...I was looking at http://www.netgrocer.com and http://www.goodingsonline.com, both are very expensive, and the first one ships them in boxes, I think...this looks like a much better deal. Last trip I stopped by Publix as part of the Towncar deal (they make a 1/2 hour stop on the way to the resort, if you like.) But this year we're taking DME, so no stop, and we will have no car, so this is perfect!

We like www.wegoshop.com much better than NetGrocer because we can get perishable items like fruit, cheese, milk, sandwhich meat, yogurt, etc. You can't get that kind of stuff with NetGrocer. I really think you'll love We Go Shop if you give them a try. The couple that runs this in the Disney area is just so nice!

GEM- how do they deliver the perishables if your room isn't ready right away? Will they call you when they are bringing the stuff? Or do you have to hang around that first day to wait on them? How does this work?

You set up a delivery time, and they will deliver within a certain window (a half hour, I think) of that time. They bring it right to your room. I would definately pick a delivery time that was after the official check in time, so you would be sure to be in your room by then. They have always called me on my cell phone just to make sure I was in the room and ready for delivery and for them to get the room number. You just pay with cash or credit card when they deliver your stuff.

I really can't say enough good things about this company and the people who run it in the Disney area! With a little one, it's great not to have to pack diapers, wipes, etc.

They say on their website they try to work out a time with them, to deliver it when you're there to receive it...but GEM would know better. GEM?
Oops,sorry...youre quicker than I am :goodvibes

I wonder how they'd deliver to the cabins at FW. They'd need a room key just to get past the security gate.

GEM, Thanks so much for this info. I am definately going to use this service for our Oct. Trip.

How are you getting to WDW from the airport? We always use a town car service and most of them provide a free 20 minute grocery stop. In January, we stopped at a nearby Publix to get some supplies.
The town car services run about $80-$100 (plus tips), R/T for 4 or 5 people from MCO to the WDW resorts.

Oh No!! :sad2:

I was planning on trying wegoshop this trip, but I just went to their website and they have announced that they will not be providing this service from July 29 - August 7th.

Argggg... just when I thought I was all set on how to get the grocery items we'll want. On to Plan B?!?

GEM~ How much do they charge?? Is it based on your bill?? Or a flat fee??What if you want them to go to BJ's and a grocery store???? Thanks for the info. Oh yeah, do you need to pay a membership fee??

Hi,
We are flying into Tampa from New England and staying at Sarasota Springs Resort. I'm looking for directions to a Publix near disneyworld. We will be driving on I4-e and taking exit 62 towards the hotel. Can someone give me directions to the closest publix?
I know there are several in the area, but not sure which is the closest, nor now to get to them. Thanks for your help! :wave2: :moped:

Go to the website, the fee schedule is there, and for a small extra fee, they'll do multiple stores...yes, they do BJ's, and no, there's no membership fee...just the delivery charge.
