Grizzly River Run Refurb

Yes, it gets a refurb nearly every year, but not always at the exact same time. Last year's refurb was extensive, so I would expect 2020's refurb to be shorter, maybe 4-6 weeks. All speculation, of course.

I'm going to call and look at changing from April to August. Hopefully for summer, they won't have so many attractions closed at once.

Normally, they will want everything open for spring break, which is a very busy time. Different schools/areas have spring break different weeks, so I'd probably look at past crowd calendars to figure that out.

You really can't go wrong with the first 2 weeks of August. The only rides down at that time will be down because of unforeseen circumstances. Indiana Jones is one that goes down for that reason often, but it will be up most of the time.

Unless something goes terribly wrong, the Grizzly refurb won’t stretch into April. It’ll probably be a few weeks.

But it seems you’ll be happier if you cancel, since you’ve discussed doing that... a lot.

Just need to stick to WDW. I prefer Disneyland, but WDW is much more predictable. Pain in the neck, but predictable.

Actually pretty much every one of his post talks about canceling. lol

Only to Disneyland. Never canceled a trip to WDW or Universal. Sadly, I like Disneyland the most, but I have a problem committing to the expense when every time I plan a trip,I get a barage of closing in the months leading up to it. As I've said many times, not everyonethat goes there lives in California. It's an extreme expense to fly cross country. But thanks for your comment. Very informative and helpful.

We never deal with this at DL-travel in the summer. Gorgeous weather too! But yes, you seem super unhappy so I’d cancel if I were you.

Super unhappy? No, not at all. Why would I be? Look how many people don't get to go to Disneyland at all. First world issues to say in the least. Super worried that I and my kids might be disappointed? Sure. We love Disneyland. Only been once but fell in love with it. Would hate for that to change because of refurbs.

Can you go in the summer time? That is basically when everything is open.

That's where I screwed up. We got an awesome rate for Dapper Days in April, so I jumped on it. Price would jump up by 30% to go in the summer. But honestly, I'd do it if I knew most attractions would be open. Problem is I didn't buy refundable airfare with JetBlue, so I'd have to pay another $600 to change flights. At that point, I need to ask myself if it's really worth the cost to make the change. I thought going in April during spring break we'd be all set. Then about 1 month ago, it just started - One refurb announcement after another. I'm not one of those people who doesn't understand refurbs. Of course I get it. I just don't like that they're doing 6 at the same time, and with only a 4 month notice. Know what I mean? It's like, you book everything in advance and then they start announcing this stuff. I get it with Disneyland being a locals park, but there are people who travel from out of state and they really should take that into consideration. But, that's just my opinion.:confused3

I would just go and enjoy your time there. There is so much to do regardless of stuff being down.

I know. But for me, personally, Fantasyland is my favorite part of Disneyland. I thought the rides and atmosphere there were just absolutely incredible. Gave me a Disney feeling I haven't had at the Magic Kingdom in a long time. So Snow White being down was a bummer. Then we find out King Arthur's Carousel will be down. Ride it or not, that ride is the heartbeat of the land. Then you find out Haunted Mansion may be down. Then Indiana Jones which we don't have in Florida. The Mark Twain is no big deal. And though it should be open, for Grizzly to have an eta of TBD, that's a lot of good stuff.

When was the last time you were at DL? How old are your kids?

We just returned from a trip last week, and I absolutely fell more in love with DCA! Did you like it when you were there last time? I liked it before but haven’t been there in 6-7 years. I loved it this time! So many great attractions there. I am saying all of this because I think you will have an amazing time even if those attractions are closed in DL.

You have purchased non refundable air fare. You have a non refundable deposit on your hotel. I’m pretty sure that you aren’t rescheduling this trip (you’d be throwing away close to $1000). I think that you should focus on what you can do, and not on what is beyond your control.

2018. It was our 1st trip. Pixar Pier was closed on our 1st trip, so that's definitely something we're looking forward to.

There will be many new things to see since 2018. SWGE will be open with both rides. I am not really a big Star Wars person, but I LOVE SWGE. It's amazing! Pixar pier is totally done too. If you had seen it in June 2018, you would essentially only get 3 rides and a couple of food stands. Now you get 5 rides, food stands, shops, and many character photo ops. That area is very lively. Plus dapper day weekend is very fun! You all will have fun! Like what everyone else says, don't focus on the things you can't control. You were nervous about your first trip, and you ended up loving it (so much that you are coming back)! That says something.
