We are in need of a new grill, and with our tax return can finally get one. We just missed a great deal on an infared one at Lowes that was on clearance because DH wanted to "buy it later" :headache:

We're now looking at the remaining non-clearanced grills and wondered if the Infared grills are worth the extra $$$? Anyone know? We want something nice that will last, but also don't want to spend more than we have to.

Hi,
I justbought myself one this weekend! I happened to run into a couple of men who work for Brinkman and they were buying a couple of grills for themselves. They didn't get anything fancy they just bought a 4 burner grill. I asked them what they thought of those "infrared" grills and they said they basically cook like your oven would and because you don't get direct heat you're not going to get any grill marks on your foods. It didn't sound like it was worth paying extra for--to me anyway. And since they work in the industry I thought they oughta know.

Didn't get the Brinkman that sold for the same price becaus wanted a spice shelf. I ended up going to Lowe's and buying a Grillmaster for $199. Nothing fancy, but it has 4 burners and a little shelf in the front to hold my spices. It has slightly more cooking space than the Brinkman. I LOVE that I just push a button to ignite the grill and it works great! The only other thing I looked at when buying was the BTU output on the burners. I didn't want to wait forever for my food to cook.Prior to that I had a char-broil that is now 10 years old and practically lit my eyebrows up when I tried to light it. I feel like I'm in heaven now. :)

Good luck!

Bought a Weber about 3 years ago. Propane Grill (they also sell natural gas). I think it was about $500-600. It has a side burner, but we never use it. It has held up so well. We'll easily get 10 years out of it, maybe more.

The cheaper grills rust through. Their burners need to be replaced within a year or two. I prefer to buy quality. It really does work out to less money per year in the long run. You can't go wrong with a Weber.

I highly recommend any Weber grill. We have had other brands and they never last and don't cook well. We bought a Weber a few years ago and it still looks brand new and cooks great. Well worth the money in my opinion.

We have a Weber too, love it! It even survived a windstorm where it blew off the deck. Its propane with no side burner, we had one on another grill and never used it. We have had ours at least 7 years now and it still works and looks almost new. It gets used at least 4 times a week in the summer and 2 times a week normally in the winter. Webers are definately worth the money!

Vermont Castings makes a wonderful grill. We have had ours about 5 yrs now and it still looks and works great.

THanks, that was helpful. Pretty sure we decided against the infrared grills. Now to start looking into the regular grills!

Fancy grills are bobo.

Weber One-Touch Gold 22.5" with side table and nothing but charcoal all the way. It is what other grills want to be when they stop fooling around with gas and such and go back to the way nature intended. :)

We are Weber people in this house. :thumbsup2 We bought our first 14 years ago, got many years out of it. Replaced it with the more 'green' Weber Q. This is a small grill. Compared to our old one, about 1/6 the size.

The good news is: the grill is great. If I am cooking a lot, I just do it in 2 batches. On the propane savings, lots! I used to get 3 to 4 tanks a year ($60 or so depending on the price of propane). The Q, we have had it for 2 years and just replaced the tank. $8 a year compared to $60 a year.

This is the budget board, right? :goodvibes
