Can anyone tell me what type of grills they have at SSR?? Are they charcoal or gas grills and where are they located.

They are charcoal grills and we used the ones near the quiet pool in the Congress park area. We got the matchlight charcoal to make it easier. There were 14 of us and we really enjoted our BBQ!

Thanks so much for the info!!! I knew I had read it somewhere that they had grills, but when I called SSR today to inquire, they told me no they did not have them, only the camp type resorts had them!!! Looking forward to saving some $$ and cooking in some nights! Thanks again!

You can even check out Grilling utensils from Community Hall for free.

We made extra and saved it for Micro Lunch the next day!

A single use bag of Matchlight can be purchased at AP for $4.75 if you need it.

we just got back from there and grilled ther are BBQ at the quite pool and now in the new section by the other quiet pool...

Thanks for the tip on borrowing the utensils...do you have to reserve them ahead of time???

Yes, thanks again for the info. I'm still baffled by the fact that the person who answered the phone at SSR says that they don't have grills. Guess he never ventures out of the lobby!!! And the fact that you can even borrow the utensils is even better!!! Can't wait!!!! We leave in 9 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Yes, it is funny, especially since the area where the grills are is named the "Barbeque Pavillion" - LOL. I wonder if they meant that there aren't grills at the rooms, like at Ft Wilderness, each cabin has its own grill. I've also heard that the resort phone calls are not actually answered by anyone at the resort, they just know where you are trying to call and answer the phone with the appropriate resort's name - so they may have never stepped foot on SSR at all.

We didnt borrow the tools (didnt know about it till later when the CH CM told me), but we grilled on Father's Day and I was thinking we would have to camp out early to get the Cong. Park Grill but we went out around noon and it was pretty quiet.

There are 2 grills at the CP Pavilion (complete with lights and ceiling fans) and Im still thinking someone else was gonna show up to use one of the grills so we only used one and left the other picnic table free and still no one showed up. Maybe we are the only ones that like to grill on vacation (Im not a camper though) and it was a good break from restaurant food and the view and location were great!

Disney uses a call center to serve as a virtual front desk at ALL of their resorts. You may well have been speaking to someone in Missouri. It's been set-up that way for years.

Ever been waiting for check-in at a Disney resort and heard a telephone ring? See a CM on the phone? (It happens, but usually just when the CM initiates the call.)

With most resorts having 1000+ rooms, they'd have to double the staff at the front desks just to handle the calls coming in to the resort from guests and non-guests.

I guess alot of people figure they are on vacation and don't want to cook. More grilling time for those of us that do!!!! I guess I'll consider the grills "a best kept secret" for now!!!!

I do agree to some extent, but am also all about saving $$. That is one of the reasons we bought into DVC...so that we would have the full kitchen and not have to eat out every meal or have only donuts and other junk for breakfast!! We are still doing Chef Mickey's one night, CRT for breakfast one morning and Crystal Palace for lunch on our last day. I plan on buying cold cuts and stuff for lunches, hot dogs, hamburgers, steak and chicken for grilling and your basic breakfast stuff. We were at Disney last October and did all the parks and sights so I'm planning on this vacation being much more relaxed where we get to spend much more time enjoying the resort pools and such and only go to the parks at our leisure!! Can hardly wait.......8 more days!

We have grilled there twince and it is soo nice and relaxing and the kids can play on the beautiful playground while you are cooking soo much fun and nice way to unwind from the parks and all.

Im with you!! My boys thought that was one of the best parts of our vacation. Dh Grilled, the boys played on the playground and I could easily watch them when they swam and still keep an eye on Dh and the chicken!! LOL!
It was really relaxed and I thought that was one of the best kept secrets too! The Congress Park Grills are close to the water and people on the Ferry Boats would wave to us! :goodvibes
We were at SSR for 2 weeks and before that 2 weeks at BCV, so we were all about leisure at that point and had very few park days. SSR was great!

I totally agree with you..WOW youstayed four weeks at WDW...that must have been neat...where was your room at SSR in congress park....We love being in COngress PArk and my kids love seeing the boats go by and the people waving to us...WE took out one of the boats and they really like that.....How many times have you gone to SSR????
