Coming up real soon - by the way I was brought up in Hinckley so know Coalville well :thumbsup2

Did you eat both of those muffins ;)

Only one thing wrong with that burger - the bun :sad2:

I really wish that Disney would bring back white buns for their burgers and hot dogs, I can't bear those horrible crumbly wheat buns.

We were really enjoying our day at Hollywood Studios. The sun was shining and we were having a great time

When I was planning this trip I really wanted to make life as easy as possible when it came to seeing all that WDW had to offer and for this reason decided to get an ADR for a Fantasmic Dinner Package

I knew only too well how early people start to line up for this show (especially now it isn’t on every night) so anything that could cut that time, if only slightly would be a real bonus, plus ‘you gotta eat’

I checked out the menus on All Ears and decided that Mama Melrose’s was the one for us.

IMG_0145-1-1.jpg

The Brown Derby looks great but for some reason it just didn’t seem like the type of menu that would work for a late afternoon ADR, especially as we would probably be hitting a few more attractions after eating

Many people have complained that the Fantasmic Packages always come with an ADR time that was too early for dinner and too late for lunch. Obviously Disney want to have the restaurants running at full capacity all day and this is a great way of them ensuring that. The thing to do is either have a late breakfast or early lunch (which works best for touring the parks anyway) also you could always get your desert ‘to go’ and munch it whilst waiting for Fantasmic to start

We arrived about 15 mins ahead of our ADR which was scheduled for 4.45pm. The CM at the podium informed us that they were running behind and we would probably have a bit of a wait. No problem, we took a seat on the benches in the foyer fully expecting to be there for a while when suddenly we saw our buzzer light up. We couldn’t have been waiting for more than one minute !!

A really friendly CM took us to a nice quite table at the edge of the restaurant. I loved the look and feel of this place. There are twinkling fairy lights everywhere and it was a cool, calm, relaxing environment

Soon our server arrived and explained the Fantasmic package to us, basically you choose an appetizer, entrée and dessert from the regular menu and that he would give us a voucher that granted us access to a reserved area of seating in the theatre. He recommended that we arrived at the theatre an hour before the show started (we actually went to the theatre about 50 mins prior and got great seats)

He talked us through the menus and took our drinks orders. DH stuck with water but I had something a bit more exciting on my mind

IMG_0187-1.jpg

Blue Glow-Tini, Skyy Citrus Vodka, Bols Blue Curacao, Bols Peach Schnapps,Sweet & Sour,
Pineapple Juice

Oh yes – delicious !!

IMG_0188-1.jpg

Ooh look she is positively glowing

Our server then bought us some fresh warm bread rolls with dipping oil

IMG_0186-1.jpg

I really enjoy oil with bread so had to resist not filling up too much with these beauties

We had no problem finding lots of options on this menu that we would enjoy and both decided on a salad for our starter

DH went for a Caesar

IMG_0189-1.jpg

Caesar Salad - with crisp romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing and crostini

I decided on this

IMG_0190-1.jpg

Mixed Greens Salad with Dried Cherry Vinaigrette, Candied Walnuts,
fresh Pear, and imported Gorgonzola Cheese

They were both excellent choices. DH loves Caesar salad and thought that this one was particularly good. The dressing was excellent and there was plenty of Parmesan

The dressing on my salad was also excellent and the sweetness of the cherry vinaigrette and candied walnuts worked really well against the sharp gorgonzola.

We both cleared our plates

Our server was very attentive and checked that everything was good and offered us more drinks …………. Ooh how could I refuse?

IMG_0193-1.jpg

Rosa Regale

I had spotted this on the menu when I had ordered my cocktail and remembered how much I had enjoyed it at Epcot

Soon our entrees arrived. First up DHs choice

IMG_0191-1.jpg

Four Cheese Flatbread - with Asiago, Mozzarella, Provolone, and Gorgonzola Cheese

He really enjoyed this. The flatbread base was perfectly crisp and the comination of cheeses worked really well. They have a wood fired oven at MM and you can really tell in the quality of the flatbreads

And for me

IMG_0192-1.jpg

Roasted Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Ravioli poached in Herb, Tomato and Mushroom Broth topped with Porcini Whipped Cream and Imported Parmigiano Shavings

Woohoo another winner :woohoo:. The ravioli were very generously filled with goats cheese and the mushroom and tomato broth was insanely good …………. Do you think this is where Disney gets their tomatoes from?

IMG_1710-1.jpg

We were now getting really full but we just had to squeeze those desserts in

DH went for this

IMG_0194-1.jpg

Crema Limone - No Sugar Added Lemon Custard topped with fresh Whipped Cream and Berries

I ordered the Gelato

IMG_0195-1.jpg

OK, this is where Mama Melrose’s is going to get marked down. The description of my dessert was simply ‘Gelato’ no other information. When I ordered it I was offered the option of vanilla or chocolate and chose vanilla. Now my Italian isn’t great but my understanding of the word ‘Gelato’ is ice cream? What I actually got was what can only be described as a very runny milk shake  Our server must have noticed me pulling a face and asked if everything was OK? I explained that I was expecting ice cream and had my dessert just melted? He explained that it is ‘supposed ' to be an ice cream float made with hot coffee ………….. well it can ‘float’ away from my table thanks

DHs desert was not as bad but really lacked something ……….. ahh yes, that’s right, SUGAR !!! Not really sure why he ordered this, I guess nothing else appealed

So deserts were a bit of a let down, but hey, you win some you loose some and the rest of the meal was great

We paid our bill and chatted some more with our wonderful server who was great throughout and said ciao to Mama Melrose’s

popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: out of popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: (would have been 5 if the desserts were good)

Me ‘DH, do you think it’s a good idea to go on Tower Of Terror after alcohol and Pasta?’
DH ‘Sure ……….. race you there !!’

You are too cute!! I am enjoying reading your reviews and seeing all the great pictures. Thank you!

Great pictures and reviews!!:thumbsup2

:cheer2: thanks :cheer2:

Did you eat both of those muffins ;)

:rolleyes1 as if I would do somthing like that ;)

Hello Just joined into reading your Dining Review. I really enjoy it! I enjoyed Mama Melrose update!

Thanks for taking the time to read :thumbsup2

Great Mama Melrose review, looks like you guys had a nice meal there (minus the desserts!).

Thanks, we really enjoyed it there :)

You are too cute!! I am enjoying reading your reviews and seeing all the great pictures. Thank you!

Aww thanks :flower3:

Gotta say, the ABC Commissary burgers are not good burgers. I normally avoid this place entirely, but I had gone there in December for the purpose of being social with other Disney fans from these internet sites! I know what good burgers should be...and these are the opposite. Rant over. ;)

As for Mama Melrose...
The goat cheese ravioli looked fantastic! I would definitely want to give that a try. Bummer about the desserts, though.

Coming up real soon - by the way I was brought up in Hinckley so know Coalville well :thumbsup2

Ive been to Hinckley a few times, my son went to a nursery there.
Coalvilles ok, prefer Essex-where im originally from. coalvilles location is great though.

great Mama Melrose review. :goodvibes

I thought gelato was an ice cream too, im sure ive seen pics of it from there before. They look totally different to what you got, mind you i would of liked it.

Mmm I am definitely going to Starring Rolls next time I go to DHS! On the DIS I have seen people's pictures of the cupcakes they get there and the pastries look so yummy!

Mama Melrose is one of our favorites, we love it there :goodvibes
I am almost positive they gave you an affogato dessert, which is vanilla gelato topped with espresso. Why they simply described it as gelato is beyond me.

This gelato thing is really strange... We have an ice cream float made with COLD coffee here in Germany (called ice coffee as oposed to iced coffee): vanilla icecream floating in cold coffee topped with whipped cream: delicious!! :cloud9:

How can they expect the ice cream to stay ice cream when it is in hot coffee... :confused3

Actually someone once explained in a dining review that gelato is different from American ice cream, I think it has less fat and is softer than American ice cream...

I think we just ordered the wrong things. Looking back at the menu we should have gone for the cheesecake

It's a small world after all

That is kind of how our server explained it but it certainly wasn't descibed as 'affogato' on the menu :confused3

Now that sounds yummy

Love your reviews, we were lucky enough to have visited just after you. We also did MM Fantasmic package, and based on the picture I think they gave you the Tiramisu dessert, not gelato. I did a quick dining review (nothing as great as yours!) and described it as a weird melty thing, but that's what it looked like. It was described as having gelato in it, but if you say your server told you they pour coffee on it that explain why it was so melted. My son ordered chocolate gelato and it looked just like you would expect, like ice cream in a bowl. Like you, the weird dessert didn't ruin the night for us, we really enjoyed the food.

Looking forward to reading more!

Hey thanks for the info :)
I didn't think it was the dessert I ordered.
A great meal all the same and we would certainly go back
I loved the setting :)

This is the second time I've read that Mama Melrose is not correctly advertising this dessert, although I believe in another post they were advertising "Tirimisu" that was actually Tirimisu flavoured gelato served with espresso.

The actual name for what you were served is Gelato Affogato, that is, gelato drowning in espresso. I used to work at a Gelato place; if you like espresso they are really tasty!

Enjoying your review and pictures! (especially the "eat me" Mickey apple!)

Your salad at Mama's looks really good! If it is still on the menu in a few months when I eat there, I'll definitely consider that.

Can't wait to read more.... ! :goodvibes

Thanks for letting me know. I actually really like espresso but it wasn't what I was expecting to get when I ordered. It's odd that the asked me if I wanted chocolate or vanilla gelato :confused3

Good Morning on a beautiful, sunny day in England :wave2:

I am spending the day doing some volunteering so just a quick post and not many pics I'm afraid

Today we decided to have a day away from the parks and hit the Mall instead

Our day started with coffee, fruit and a quick read of the newspaper by the pool before jumping in the car and heading to the Florida Mall :drive:

An hour or so after arriving and as my credit card started to melt ;) we decided it was time for a quick snack so we headed to the food court. I don't seem to have any pictures but your aren't missing much. We grabbed a blueberry muffin for DH and a banana nut muffin for me. I also had a very nice carrot, apple and ginger juice in a vain attempt to consume at least one healthy item on this trip :rolleyes1

We carried on with our shopping trip (DH loves shopping by the way so I don't have to drag him round :thumbsup2) until we actually couldn't carry any more bags and decided it was time for lunch

We headed back to the car to drop off our bags and spotted that there was a Panera Bread located just across the way. We really wanted a nice sandwich so this is where we headed

IMG_0207-1.jpg

Mozzarella, Tomato With Sun Dried Pesto & Chips

We both ordered the same sandwich and it was delicious, the sun dried tomato pesto gave it a really nice lift and the bread was superb

On all of our previous trips to WDW we have embarked on a 'Mini Golf Challenge' and today was to be round one. Nicely full from our lunch we headed off here

IMG_0213-1.jpg

You may have noticed that we didn't order any dessert at Panera Bread so that gave us a good excuse to induldge in one of these as soon as we arrived

IMG_0215-1.jpg

Yep, yet another Mickey Bar

So with sugar in the tank we tackled the Winter course and although it was close I am sad to report DH won :sad2:

There is a nice little seating area in the shade at Winter Summerland so when we had returned our clubs we decided to grab a cold drink and snack before heading back to the hotel

IMG_0225-1.jpg

The salted cashew nuts were great and we shared them whilst DH bragged about his win

We headed back to our hotel for a quick shower and change and headed down to the pool bar for a drink (Coke for DH and beer for me)

Neither of us felt like driving very far to get dinner so we decided to just stop at the first place we saw that looked OK :car:

We ended up at Logan's Roadhouse on US192. We hadn't eaten in this chain before but didn't feel like anything fancy so this fitted the bill.

Sorry I didn't take any pics in here

We got seated in one of the booths and our server came to take our drinks order. I had a glass of Chardonnay (sorry can't remember the detail) and DH had an OJ. A quick look at the menu and we both decided we just wanted an entreee and nothing too big.

Our server brought us some nice, warm sourdough bread and butter and we placed our orders, a half rack of baby back ribs with mashed potato and coleslaw for DH and grilled salmon with sweet potato and brocolli for me.

Both meals were simple and small but were well cooked and tasty. I really liked the addition of cinnamon on my sweet potato as I hadn't tried this combo before. DH said the ribs were good but thought he should have gone for a full rack as it was a really small portion. We didn't feel like dessert so we asked for the bill and paid our server. It was an inexpensive dinner and we were in and out real quick. Not sure that it is somewhere we would go again but it suited what we needed that evening

Next up ......... as if I haven't spent enough money, we're off to the Mall At The Millenia
