In 1963 my mom took me on a railroad trip across the US and the Canadian Rockies, we had a stop in DisneyLand. This was my high school graduation present, one year early. My most memorable attractions were seeing the original tiki birds, and riding the Matterhorn. It was my only Disney trip before we brought our oldest DS to WDW in 1977.

Walt Disney World opened in 1971 when I was a freshman in high school and our Senior Class Trip was there, the first class from our HS to go, but I did not attend the trip. I went for the first time in 1985 when my sons were 4 and 5 years old. We went with my uncle Leo, who never married, and had been to WDW 14 times prior to us going with him. He traveled alone and loved all things Disney. If not for him I may have never gone and known what I was missing. I will always be grateful to my uncle. He went on four more trips with us, his last being in 1995, and my daughter, who wasn't born for our first trip, but I was pregnant with her so she technically went, LOL, and brother and nephew also went along. The Polynesian was his very favorite resort, and that is where he always stayed, and was the resort we stayed at with him for our first two visits. I managed to convince him to try the Grand Floridian and then the Beach Club for his last two visits. He died in 1996 from cancer, but his Disney dream lives on.

He passed on his love of WDW to me, my husband, two out of my three kids, who are now 20 and 24, (the oldest, 26, also enjoys it but is not a fanatic), my 15 yo nephew, his friend who has been on our last two family trips and is going again with us in October, and my son's girlfriend and his friend, who has been on at least 5 Disney trips with us. Who knew?

We bought into DVC 5 years ago and I don't regret it for a minute. We've made the best family memories there, and I know Uncle Leo would be proud! His and Walt's dream lives on. pixiedust:

I had only one visit as a child. It also happened to be when the MK was the only park there as well as with my aunt, uncle & cousins, mom, dad & sister. We drove from Oklahoma in one station wagon.

The only things I remember about that trip are my dad & uncle constantly stopping to call home and check on the cattle and my mom and uncle getting sick.

Other than that we had very few other vacations and they never amounted to much of anything. We never had family time. Dad was always working or taking care of the farm.

I have 4 children, two of them have already graduated from high school, one is 14 and the other is 7. I wasn't able to take the older two when they were little except for two trips to WDW and two to DL. When I was able to start going yearly+ they thought they were to old to go with us so they could have been more if they had wanted to go. The 14 yo has been on Disney trips 11 times since 93 and the 7 yo old has been 8 times since 2000.

The 14 yo acts like he is a bit to old for it but once we are away misses it himself, the 7 yo old is upset because we aren't going this summer; we're waiting for a Christmas trip this year.

This past summer I treated my entire family plus all of those that were with me on my very first trip way back in the 70's to accomodations at OKW. It was an absolutely wonderful trip and everyone had a great time. My dad and uncle were not ready to come home. These were the same guys that had to keep checking on the cattle on that first trip.

Well, anyway, all this babbling is meant to say that I want my children to remember family time and activities from their childhood, not mom and dad always working and never doing anything with them. If that means they are spoinled then so be it. At least they know that they are important to us and that we enjoy spending time with them.

I also spent some time visiting with my dad this summer after that trip and he is so full of regrets for always being so busy when my sister and I were growing up. Now understand he is and the best dad in the world, he just felt like he had to work constantly to take care of us. After that trip this summer he realizes how much we missed out on all those years.

So I say SPOIL THEM and ENJOY THEM!

were your trips few and far between, thus starting your craving of all things Disney?

I'm in this group.

Two trips as a child, one in '74 and one in '76.
