I had only one visit as a child. It also happened to be when the MK was the only park there as well as with my aunt, uncle & cousins, mom, dad & sister. We drove from Oklahoma in one station wagon.
The only things I remember about that trip are my dad & uncle constantly stopping to call home and check on the cattle and my mom and uncle getting sick.
Other than that we had very few other vacations and they never amounted to much of anything. We never had family time. Dad was always working or taking care of the farm.
I have 4 children, two of them have already graduated from high school, one is 14 and the other is 7. I wasn't able to take the older two when they were little except for two trips to WDW and two to DL. When I was able to start going yearly+ they thought they were to old to go with us so they could have been more if they had wanted to go. The 14 yo has been on Disney trips 11 times since 93 and the 7 yo old has been 8 times since 2000.
The 14 yo acts like he is a bit to old for it but once we are away misses it himself, the 7 yo old is upset because we aren't going this summer; we're waiting for a Christmas trip this year.
This past summer I treated my entire family plus all of those that were with me on my very first trip way back in the 70's to accomodations at OKW. It was an absolutely wonderful trip and everyone had a great time. My dad and uncle were not ready to come home. These were the same guys that had to keep checking on the cattle on that first trip.
Well, anyway, all this babbling is meant to say that I want my children to remember family time and activities from their childhood, not mom and dad always working and never doing anything with them. If that means they are spoinled then so be it. At least they know that they are important to us and that we enjoy spending time with them.
I also spent some time visiting with my dad this summer after that trip and he is so full of regrets for always being so busy when my sister and I were growing up. Now understand he is and the best dad in the world, he just felt like he had to work constantly to take care of us. After that trip this summer he realizes how much we missed out on all those years.
So I say SPOIL THEM and ENJOY THEM!
