Green seats on Song?

Does anyone know what the deal is with the seats that are reserved for every flight? The first four rows, the double exit rows, and the front seats of the rear section show as reserved for every flight that they have. Are they saved for a specific reason. Do they open up only after all the other seats are booked, etc?

Not that it's important to me, but I have always been curious!

Anyone know?

I think they have them blocked for the more expensive tickets. I have actually seen them as open if I go and search for tickets and I'm not being 'cheap'. And the exit row seats are so prohibitive that they get sold further down the road. You have to be over 15 in order to sit there and not be traveling with anyone under 15, in the event of an emergency you would be expected to help out and not just your family .....everyone! But, there could be other reasons.

Yep, I just went on over and plugged in dates of Sept 10-17, from Boston to Orlando. If I did a normal search looking for cheapest seats I got a fare of $165. And there were a bunch of already 'reserved' seats shown. Then, I went back and checked off the 'refundable' box. Yikes!!! The exact same flights would be $1245. And yes, some of those that showed up as 'reserved' on the cheaper seats chart now show up as available...list as available preferred!!! I guess they're preferred!!!!

I'm not sure if this applies to Song, but on other airlines, preferred seats are available to the "premier" flyers -- those who have some sort of status with the airline, flying more than a certain number of miles.

Those seats are only available to premium flyers and for other special reasons. I am silver medallion so they show up whenever I go to book.

Sorry, but 'available preferred' was the exact wording used by Delta for the Song flights I checked on. If you checked on the Song site, they are unavailable. But when checked on Delta's site, using refundable tickets for my search, they are listed as available. I think it's a pretty good difference in price. And it's always the same ones. There are maybe two rows right smack dab in the middle that are always available. Maybe rows 7 and 8..or 8 and 9.

Now I get it!!
When I look on Delta's site, I can now see that only two rows of those seats are actually taken, and the rest are "preferred seating"!

Again, it wasn't anything but my own curiosity that made me ask!

When I booked my tickets for Nov. 4 weeks ago, I did it via phone. The girl told me that non of the seats would be released. She made no mention of preferred seats! At the time of my booking, rows 1,2,3,4,7 & 8 were blocked off! She told me to check-in at the counter early to get row 1-3! We wound up with row 5...so it doesn't matter to me!

We have flown Song 6 times, and have sat in rows 2, 5, and 6. Our tickets were dirt cheap, so in my experience price has nothing to do with it. It seems that they "reserve" all front section rows except for rows 5 and 6, but those reserved seats are yours for the asking. They just like to hold them back for the just-in-cases. When I wanted row 2 and found it reserved on the websitem, I called and got 4 saets there for my family. The very front rows and the last couple of first section rows are prime, because many people want to sit in the front of the plane, and the last rows of the first section get you out of the plane quicker, which makes thenm prime.
Price has nothing to do with it. If you want a so-called reserved seat in the front, call Song and they'll tell you if it is actually reresrved by a paying passenger. Otherwise they'll give it to you. At least this is what happened to me. I'm going to Orlando this Christmas 12/23, sitting in row 6 to be closer to the exit, and paid $59 one way.

I have tried to get those first row seats every time using the Song site. They have usually been blocked off as already taken. But, if I went over to the Delta site, and checked off the refundable ticket box, thereby looking for any price tickets, I could have gotten those first row seats but for a huge amount of money. They showed up as 'available preferred'. I think that because most of us choose the non-refund. seats, we never notice the 'other' seats. But, I have seen them open in the past, for the 'regular' cheaper fares.

Those seats are initially reserved for Delta's elite skymiles members (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Its a perk for those that fly Delta, or its affiliates, very frequently.

dvc guy, yes, iss that the 5:10 pm out of JFK? If so, on my paperwork it's fllight 2029. And thank goodness I saw your post...I went to the Song sight to check my itinerary and saw there was a change. The flight is now scheduled to land at MCO at 8:04 pm instead of 8:10 pm. No big deal, but there was also a change in out CONFIRMED seating!!!! Our seats are now listed as "not assigned"!!! We were in row 6. I'm going to get our seats reconfirmed right now!!!


EDITED TO ADD: On the Song website, there is no longer an option for me to choose/change my seats. I'm going to have to call.

Diane, the Song rep said this was because the first few rows and the last few rows in thr front section are prime...easy off for the last rows, and closer to front for the first rows. So they save the 2 middle, which are rows 5 and 6, to be generally open to the public through the website, although as I previously said, you can get those prime seats if you call and if they are truly not as yet reserved. That's how we got row 2 for a great price.

frannn, just go to the Song website, click on "My Itinerary", and put in your confirmation #. Your info will come up so that you can check it.


By the way, I still have my assigned seats, even though they no longer showed up on the seating chart. So all is well!

Every time Song/Delta change the flight time, the seats show up as unassigned, and you need to call to have them put back as assigned. They tell me that your seats do not disapear they just don't show up on the website.

I know for a fact that the first row (1a, 1b, 1c, 2e, 2f, 2g) is reserved for folks with Mobility Impairments, and even if you are reserved in it, you can be asked to move to make way for someone who needs it.

DS is wheelchair-bound, so we call and get DS and myself assigned to those first row seats every flight. DW and DD have to stay back in the regular seating, but we have always reserved early enough that they are never further back than row 6. Frequently, we can get them bumped up to the row behind us.

Other folks for whom those seats get saved are unaccompanied minors, whom the Flight Attendants need to keep an eye out for.

But there is nothing really special about rows 2, 3 and 4. They are not particularly better seats. But if they want to make elite level folks feel nice by telling them they have saved them some special seats, that's fine. But the main purpose is to reserve spots for disabled passengers and unaccompanied minors.
