Want to surprise dh and ds with seats when the go on their boys trip to Fenway. Are these seats all that they are made out to be. Dh has been to Fenway a lot (still trying to convince me to move there and has brainwashed my kids into wanting to go to college in Boston to help achieve this goal) and has sat behind home plate and behind the dugout, but still never on the green monster. Just curious if any local die hard fans have sat there and have any thoughts.

I've sat there a few times and absolutely loved it. Great view, IMO, and lots of fun. Much more room than the grandstand and lower box sections. Get there early and enjoy batting practice. If you don't want to spring for the monster seats, you can book one of the Fenway tours. That includes a look inside the wall and up top, depending on when you go and if a game is scheduled. Call and ask about that as I can't recall what is more recommended - on a game day or not... bring a sharpie to sign the wall inside the wall if you can find a spot!

Well, I never sat on top of the Green Monster for an actual game. But we did take a tour of Fenway and those seats were a stop on the tour. I wasn't impressed with the overall view. You really couldn't see a lot of left field. And I believe they're some of the most expensive seats in the stadium. The aura or panache of sitting there seems to be the real attraction rather than the view.

its the coolest thing in baseball, never done it, never been there, but still

Two words: Bucket List!

Yankee Stadium is on mine. DH got tickets to a game for us a couple of years ago, but I couldn't go that night! Wound up giving the tickets away and, long story, but the person I gave them to wound up going with someone whose father works for the Red Sox and next thing I know I'm getting pictures of my friend on the Red Sox bus with some of the players >:( and our triple balcony seats turned into box seats behind the dugout! o_O Lol. That's her, though.

Thanks for the info. I looked into the cost, so I know they are pricey. That is why I wondered if they were a let down after coughing up that much money.

I actually hate sitting behind home plate and for me these seats are a let down...worst seats in the park. That net in front of my face is too much, but my hubby loves it there so I know everybody has a different POV.

You sound like both my son and husband lol.

I like the Pavilion because you can see what's going on in the game more and you can't get in that area without a ticket so there's not a lot of foot traffic. But really, anywhere you sit in the park is a lot of fun!

I've sat all over Fenway Park. If I had my choice I'd probably choose lower level on the 3rd base side as my favorite. The Monster seats are certainly fun but are pricey and I agree with others that, depending where you are on the monster you'll lose sight of part of the outfield. Of course a good time can always be had in the bleachers! Go Sox!

The only way I sit up there is to be in the first row because in the other rows you do miss too much action.

Thanks, that is a good tip for when buying tickets.

They are going to 3 games so they'll definitely sit in the bleachers one night. Dh always sits there for one game. Maybe I'll do monster or third base line for the tickets I buy for them. Thanks for the info!

Now that that's solved, what can we do to convince you to move to the Boston area?

Lol as I tell dh, make enough money to buy me a 3-4 bedroom house on beacon hill and I'm in or as I said up thread get the kids to move there and I'll follow. I think option 1 may be a reach, but I am a little nervous option 2 is a possibility. My children are brainwashed and they talk about boston all the time. They opted out of a wdw vacation to see Beantown instead. Who knew the freedom trail had more appeal then the MK? My middle child knows stats about the celtics, Bruins and red sox to make any native of Boston proud, his only downfall is he is a dolphins fan not a patriots fan. My dd was born the year they reversed the curse (came home from the hospital the day they won), dh tells her she reversed the curse. My middle son was born the second time they won...more proof we need to move to Boston according to dh ;)

Where do you live now? I'm with them! It is a great place to live. :goodvibes

It is a beautiful city, no doubt. Great food, great people and lots of fun things to do. Fenway is a great ballpark too. Not a huge baseball fan, but even I got chills singing Sweet Caroline....Fun place to be!!!! We are in the Midwest and I dont want to leave our families. They are just too much of a part of our lives to move away on both sides. My kids are so close to bother sets of grandparents and all of their aunts, uncles and cousins. Maybe someday though...but I do admit the brutal winters there are the one downside.

Beacon Hill wouldn't be my first choice, even if I could afford it. Too much traffic, and the hill part is treacherous in winter. When we were looking at Boston proper, West Roxbury (not to be confused with Roxbury) was at the top of our list, though we have friends in Roslindale and in the nicer parts of Dorchester. JP is also good.

But we're quite happy in the suburbs. Of course, it depends upon the commute. Lots of high tech around 128 as well as Boston/Cambridge.

As a die-hard Red Sox fan... would you consider having more kids? LOL!

My in-laws are all in the midwest- Cleveland area and Indianapolis area. The winters there are as bad or worse than in the Boston area, so don't let winter scare you away from living in Boston! I grew up on the North Shore of Boston (Salem area) and it's a great place to live. More affordable than Boston itself, MUCH more affordable than Beacon Hill- but still not cheap!

Only sat there once. They are awesome. They are also really hard to get. If you get a chance to buy them directly, do it. If you can't get them directly I wouldn't bother. The up-charge on those seats can be HUGE.

Well this is the year to do it. With tanking the last 2 years prices will be less than in years before. We liked sitting there but our fave seats are about 10 rows up from visiting dugout. The next would be down right field line, field seats.

The bleachers are sooo much fun, especially during summer day games, but bring sunblock. There is not much shade to be had.

ITA BH is way over rate & the stipulations for your house are just too strict. You need approval to just about anything that would change the layout/look of the house.
I grew up in Roslindale, & hung in West Roxbury(yes def different from Roxbury). I do love this city, lucky to get to work here everyday. Next time you come don't forget to hit Sullivans for a dog over at Castle Island in Southie:thumbsup2

Do they still sell the Monster tickets via the lottery system? That's how I got mine back in the day.

We did try for a third world series, but he did not bring one, but it is the year the Bruins won the Stanley Cup if that counts for anything! We have some weird boston mojo lol. Probably a sign I shouldn't ignore. I'm sure Beacon Hill isn't realistic, but it is pretty!! We actually have family in Sudbury on dh's side, so we'd probably move near them if we did ever move.

I can't get green monster seats direct. I'd be buying them from a second party so they will be expensive and why I wanted to see if it was worth the hype.
