I love Pete's Dragon! That was a favorite of mine growing up and still one I enjoy from time to time now. I'm thinking of introducing my kids to it soon (my oldest is 4 so she's probably about the right age). It's good, light-hearted fun that doesn't take itself too seriously while addressing the serious issue of child abuse! And of course, Candle on the Water is one of the greatest songs to grace a Disney live action movie. I highly recommend it to any who have not seen it.
Has anyone seen Elliot "disappear" in mid-parade in recent years? He used to do this a couple times a night back when I would watch the parade at Disneyland in the 80s and 90s, but since it returned to WDW a few years ago I don't think I've seen him disappear once.
(I can't recall for certain - are the MSEP parade floats at WDW the ones that came over from Tokyo? I didn't think they were the ones from DL, but I can always be mistaken.)
In case anyone's interested in the remake, IMDb says it will be released next Aug. I know someone in the cast, and they finished principal photography months ago. So there must be some major CGI going on with this one if post production is taking that long.

Post Production usually takes awhile now. Also the bigger houses have a habit of sitting on a movie long after it has finished principle shooting, post production, and final edits. Disney for one will show this fully done to a select few target audiences and then might go back and reedit or re-shoot if necessary. They also release at a prime time for highest profitability so a movie could be 100% done and just sit on the shelf for months waiting to be put out for that target weekend.
I wish they weren't remaking it, it was perfect just the way it was. Last time we watched the parade, the family with teens behind us were discussing the dragon, and not having any clue what it was from. I had to tell them and they had never heard of it. They said they would try to find it when they got home.
I recently re-watched it with DS (his first time). I loved it as a kid and still enjoyed it; however, it is a little slower paced compared to a lot of stuff these days. I don't think it has held up as well as Mary Poppins or Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
