Greatest Musical Entertainer of the 20th Century

Don't feel bad, a lot of people haven't. He probably was not the most famous person of the century but that doesn't take away from the ability he had to entertain. The man was a true entertainer.

Now I am going to have to Google him!

I thought of him today.... the night he died was a beautiful warm night and my DH and I drove to Hoboken listening to "summer wind" ..

and we are not big fans... but he was a jersey Guy...

Frank Sinatra .We always loved him... and saw him a few times at the PNC arts center... (Garden State Parkway... :rotfl:) The night he died was the night my first daugher was born. 11 years ago in May.

So with all the talk of Michael Jackson dying (R.I.P.) I was wondering who everyone thought was the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century?

I think its a close tie between Jackson, Elvis, and Billy Joel

I would post a poll but I think we're going to get a large variety of answers

I would say it's a very close tie between Michael Jackson & Elvis & also Jerry Garcia if we are talking about most influential as well.

Personally, I would not include Billy Joel. He is an amazing entertainer, but he does not have the effect and world wide fanbase that the other two had.

Michael was amazing with his diversity of fans. In his heyday, he really broke down racial barriers and I think no other musician has done before.

Jerry Garcia:confused3:confused3:confused3

Luciano Pavarotti

His name will go down in history like stradivarius violin. The very benchmark of tenor

It's generational - the Beatles cross generations and probably had the biggest impact on music over the last 45 years - Jackson was a distraction at best and a very sick weird little man.

Nothing tops The Beatles for me.

Since entertainment takes on many different forms, here are a couple more choices:

Jackie Robinson
Michael Jordan

In comparison of Sinatra and Presley, if you ask professional performers, I think that most of them would choose Sinatra as the most influential to the art of singing. Presley's primary lasting influence is in choreography and staging.

Relevant is such a loaded term. Relevant to whom? Does it mean makes more residuals? Inspires more imitators? Sells more merchandise? Has his image stolen more often?

Then there was the rat pack in the 50s - 60s - those guys could sing!

Jerry Lee Lewis was another - the list is very long ----- and goes back before there was a way to record music.
