wow where did you hear that i know they were trying to sell the sheybogan location and thought that sale was almost final

I searched on line and found nothing. I would be interested to read this somewhere.

Well, I work for a different resort here in Michigan and I heard it directly from our GM and it is not something they are advertising as they are scared that people will cancel before they close their doors. Oh the plus side it is good news for my resort.

Interesting. I wonder if it will really close as they were accepting reservations beyond that date. We go to Double JJ now, its closer for us. Great Wolf was almost a 6 hour drive.

That is sad news! We usually go a couple times of year. They always seemed busy.

How do you like Double JJ's waterpark? We haven't been there since it opened. We used to go just DH & I in the spring or fall so he could golf while I went horseback riding, but it has been years.

We really liked Double JJs water park. There was alot for Dd to do, she was 9 then. They had the fun funnel shaped tube ride that Dd called the flusher, the huge 4 person raft ride and the normal 2 person tube ride.

She LOVED the body slide because it didnt splash her out into the deep pool. Its ends separately and you just stand up. I think she did that 20 times. She isnt a strong swimmer and HATES to be dunked under water so this was a big deal to her.

The hot tub is indoor/ outdoor which I didn't like because its not as hot but Dd thought it was very cool! I was good with hanging out in the wave pool part on a tube and watching her go everywhere.

The only really big downer for me is that no hotel is connected to it. We always stay in the loft and have to drive or walk over. In the winter its freezing, I prefer that aspect of Great Wolf Lodge. It also was ALOT cheaper for us even with the horse riding package add on to go to Double JJ vs Great Wolf! So we split our time now between Double JJ and Safari Joes small park in Watervliet.

Aww this is too bad as the one in Traverse City was so much nicer and cleaner than the one in Ohio. I would never go back to the one in Ohio even though it is closer to me than the 4 hour trek up north.

We haven't been there since the kids were little. We started going to Avalanche bay instead. The kids like it better. We usually combine it with skiing. My kids are enrolled in the Junior has a fit ski program through boyne. Its a great deal if you ski. Each year we trade in our ski equipment for full credit towards new stuff. They always give us 2 free water park passes each year, and a bunch of other coupons.

Now we took them to Kalahari in Ohio this past summer, and that was by far better than any other indoor water park we had been too.

We were thinking of going there over MKL weekend. Guess not :(

I'm relatively new to Michigan, so any rec's on where else to go? My kids are 3 & 5, and we live in Grosse Pointe. I know there's Kalahari in Sandusky, OH, but would love to hear suggestions. Don't mind driving a few hours.

Here is the link to Double JJ, its on the west side of the state past Muskegon. They offer horse back riding, snow tubing, etc. http://www.doublejj.com/activities/indoor_waterpark_attractions.html

Splash Universe is near Dundee but I have not been there yet. http://www.splashuniverse.com/

Zehnders is in Frankenmuth. Dd is dying to go here but maybe this winter. http://www.zehnders.com/waterpark/splashvillagewaterpark.htm

We actually just got back from a Kalahari trip not quite a week ago, and that place is always a lot of fun. They've by far got the best indoor waterpark I've seen, and I think they might still hold the title of America's largest, but most of their slides and attractions are for 42"+ or 48"+ so your kids might be a little young to get the most out of it.

My kids also like Splash Village up in Frankenmuth. Their waterpark is heavier on little-kid friendly areas and has a cute theme, plus there's the fun of being in Frankenmuth, going to Bronners (right next door to the resort), having the famous chicken dinner, getting fudge, spending some time at the old-time arcade. We're hoping to fit in a couple of days there either before Christmas since our kids get out the 17th this year or over one of the long winter weekends (MLK or Presidents Day).

Well nice to know that those of you that go to Double JJ are enjoying it. I work there and it's a great place.

That was a bit of a good slap in the face. I didn't expect to here someone mention Watervliet in the disboards. I'm a ways south of Watervliet...yes there is MI south of there.;) How did you guys like it? I'm a family of five so it gets crazy expensive trying to find a room big enough for all of us.

That's sad! We had lots of fun there. Traverse City is a beautiful city. Loved Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Well, that is a bummer - we really like GWL and the staff is very friendly. It has become something of a Christmas break tradition in our family to trek up to TC for a couple of nights at GWL. I guess we will head south to Kalahari in Sandusky next Christmas break (2011 since 2010 is already booked, and I assume they will still be open).

Thanks for the height info! Both my girls hover around 40-41 inches tall, so maybe we'll give it another year before going to Kalahari. Frankenmuth sounds great, it's been on our to-do list since we've moved here. I'll have to investigate both.
