We're headed to Great Wolf in the Poconos for two nights next week. I'm looking for suggestions on things to do in the area. We are hoping to go to Camelbeach but we're not sure the weather is going to cooperate. We're also looking for some restaurant suggestions. Doesn't have to be cheap necessarily but worth the money. There are nine of us all together! Thanks for all your help!

Well- the food is slim pickings up there.

We like the
http://www.barleycreek.com/

It's nothing fancy but it's good solid food and the beers are yummy!

I've heard this place is good but have never been and I think it's a bit of a haul from where you'll be

http://www.hamptoncourtinn.com/

For what to do if it rains- well there is a bowling alley nearby and there's always outlet shopping. Movies are about a 10 minute drive away.

There is a Friendly's right down the road for ice cream.

OH another thing my kids liked.
http://www.calliescandy.com/

The guy is a little rude but he thinks he's being funny. And the kids thought he was.
Chocolate pretzels here were delicious.
I think we might head up there this weekend now that I remembered it.

Have fun!

Thanks java! I'll add these places to our list of alternatives if the weather is bad. There are nine in our group but I know if we need something to do they're all gonna be looking at me to tell them what's available! I've done some online research but knew the DIS could help me out! Did you know there is a race at Pocono Downs this weekend? Don't know if the area gets mobbed but when they are in Dover, DE it clogs up the whole state (of course we're a little state!) Thanks again! Mindy

Oh thanks for the race heads up! We got caught at Dover Downs a couple weeks ago (my mom lives near ocean city) Never in my life have I seen so many people!
Maybe we'll wait!

My Dad used to own a Townhouse on Camelback so we spent a lot of time in that area. What I can say is AVOID the chinese food places!

The Adults can always head over to Mt. Airy for a few.

We were just up there Tuesday an spent the night. We ate at Longhorn Steakhouse on 611. Also have eaten at Big Daddys.

There is also the crossing outlets if you need to get some shopping done.

Thanks! What's Big Daddy's? Is it a chain or a local place? I was trying to avoid shopping. I have one teenage girl and one almost teenage girl. They put me in the poor house at those outlets. We already did a few hours at the outlets in Rehoboth Beach and a great sale day at Kohl's so they are set to get started for school. No shopping needed here!

I don't think they are a chain.. but I am not 100% sure. Here is their website

There are a bunch of places to eat as you go up and down 611. Even saw a Japanese hibachi place.

We are about to finally have summer weather starting Monday, 90* Monday, 86* or higher on Tuesday, Some stray thunderstorm chance.

Wed, Thurs Fri 85*, more over cast not as much chance for storms.
Last night it was 50*. I think it still is in my siggy below,

We did not hit 80* all summer in our area. So you should have a great week. If you travel up to 209, there are attractions there too. Bushkill Falls, A snake place, Indian history, Marshalls Creek area has shops.

Beaver House on 611 in Stroud twp by the Stroud Mall , opposite side of the street has dinners all inclusive, appitiser, soup and salad, entree, potato veg, bread, drink, and dessert included for about $15,. Refills on the drinks.

Prime rib queen cut was about $17 I think. The place is HUGE and great. If you are into picking out your own fish, or having ostrich..It sucked...
Can't beat the amount of food you get. You roll out of there!

Thanks DisneyMarie! Yes I think the weather is looking up. Our current plan is to be at Camelbeach at the park open on Monday then head to Great Wolf after we're done. I really want to check out Bushkill Falls. I'm not sure if our entire group will be able to do it though. My mom has severe back issues but would go along if there was someplace she could sit or something she could do while we walk to the falls. Any suggestions?

The race was August in 3rd in Pocono.

Dining-There is a great place called Edelweiss for dinner. A bunch of the NASCAR drivers eat there.

They have a dinner called Steak on a Stone. The drivers love it and go every race.

Sorry, but the Beave House has been gone...literally torn down for at least 5 or 6 years, Di.

If you want to eat a a really fun great place, you head on over to the Sarah Street Grille in town in Stroudsburg...Dave the owner is great, the food is good, and these is tons of TV's Live entertainment at night and a sushi bar attended by a sushi chef. You will not be sorry you went there!

If your day turns out to be rainy, there's a place on 611 in Mt. pocono called the Casino Theater. They have movies, pizza and other fantastic junk food and an arcade.
There is a Cheesecake Factory on 611 (not the chain restaurant) that shows how to make cheesecake and it's pretty good.

If you do come down into Stroudsburg to eat, there a few little Art galleries and a small museum, an old mansion, and some shops to visit right on main Street.
You must take a tour or check out a show at the Sherman Theater (also on main st.) as well....it's a great resurected theater. Check out the website.

Finally in East Stroudsburg there is another theater called Pocono Community Theater. It has a coffee house and plays about 2 current and one "B" type film every night.
Have Fun!!

LIZ

The restaurant I mentiond is also just off main St. in Stroudsburg.

OH NO, I loved that place, I use to work the security for Indy cars at Pocono years and years ago. The pace car's pit crew took me to dinner there back in 1986 for the first time. DH and I use to go for our anniversary until his dd moved to Buffalo and we are up there for now for anniversary.

MinMouse,
the walk for the long hike is torterous for even the healthy, But there is a small tour that just goes a few levels of the main falls.
I also found anyone taking the hike, Please start at the END working to the Start. That way it is all down hill, not visa versa.

There is nice area for your Mom to wait if she is the type to fuss about making a nice picnic lunch, have a folding chair somone can place for her with a nice book., The cool trees, breeze from the falls will be nice. There is a restaurante if I remember, maybe a gift shop

Gosh, I have to admit the last time I was there,1976 or 1980's.......Boy does that age me. I remember hiking it with the Girls Scout troop I had in 76. Not sure if I had my own kids there though. The hike killed me all up hill, nothing to drink.

But just walking the main falls is beautiful, the other two falls on the long hike are much much smaller, just rolling over rocks.
I know that there was a ton or rain there last week so maybe nice.

OH if your into riding the rapids, in White Haven on Rt 940 I think it is, the Leigh River rapidis trip. I am far too chicken to do that.

Enjoy the weather, and trip. There are a ton of things to do, The weather will be great for water parks,
Di

Stop into the Pocono Cheesecake factory right up the road...AMAZING cheesecake. If you feel like taking a little drive, there is a restaurant in Newfoundland on Route 191 South called "Napolitano's". They have incredible Italian food all homemade {and I'm a Brooklyn girl, so i consider myself very picky when it comes to Italian food}. The prices are great and it's a very homey atmosphere. There is another restaurant on Route 191 North called "Hazzard's Raintree" which is also very nice.

My MIL (well us too) right in that area. I've been going there with my husband since 1978. Like 20 times a year. If you asked me to pick 5 things to do, I don't think I could pick three LOL

I didn't realize the Beaver House was gone, we've eaten there many a meal. Big Daddy's is pretty good. Now if you want really good ice cream, I'd go right across the street from Great Wolf Lodge to "Eats and Sweets"

There's a JUICY outlet...Aeropostale...J.CREW... LOL!

I want to add that we have stayed 2 nights at the GWL, and my kids were happy to spend almost all of the time there, especially with magiquest (which dd13 and ds11 loved).

Is this near the camelback area as well? I was originally looking to go skiing but it costs way to much to invest in the clothing when you don't know if you would even enjoy it. So I am thinking of going white water rafting! The zipline looks awesome too!

The Camelback Mtn is right behind it. I would say it would take about 10/15 minutes by car to get there.

I have lived here in the Pocono's pretty much all my life and can name lots of good restaurants. I have to say the "I'm from NY I know good food" attitude gets pretty old sorry. One word of advice, don't get the pizza from GWL, it's overpriced Pizza Hut.
