Just got back - booked back in April using "the code". No questions asked and got an upgrade to the kid suite.

Room was very nice, no problems at all. really liked having the kids in the little bunk area with there own tv. They supplied a pack n play when requested.

Check in: Got there about 1:30 on Sunday. Place was packed!! Even though it was so crowded, we only waited 5 mins. to get checked in. Got our wristbands and was told to pick up a house phone and call them to check on the room.

So we went right into the waterpark. Not a table or chair to be found. Kind of wish when people were done they would remove their towels from the chairs and half eaten lunches from the tables just so other would know what was avialable. We just packed everything into the stroller and headed off.
It was me, DH, tow step daughters 12 and 11 and son 16 months.

We hung around with my son for a little while, then I sent the bigger kids and dad off for the big slides. After about an hour to an hour and a half my son started getting tired. I think he had some water in his ears - just a word of advice, its pretty loud in there.

So I found a phone and called to check on our room and it was realy. probably about 3:15 to 3:30. So I went to eh key pick up desk - no one else there and in two minutes had my keys.

I will say with chek in and room key pick-up we really lucked out. When I went down to get the bags around 4, the line to pick up keys was real long. Dont know how long the wait was but it was a long line.

Magic Quest - this stupid, stupid game. The girls saw all the kids running around with their wands and said - gee whats that. So i explained and of course they wanted to play. I tried to stress they wouldn't have enough time but they really wanted to try and honestly it truely felt like my kids were the only kids in the entire place without a stupid wand! Well after i insisted they go back to the water park at night (close at 9pm) i said ok lets go check it out. Closed - 9pm. I said well lets see what happens tomorrow.

I had to leave at 8am the next day for a funeral so husband was left with the kids. He said magic quest was kind of annoying because he had my son in the stoller and you have to keep going up and down the levels and the girls were just kind of running around not following along with the map or whatever it is.

Husband said son had a blast the next day. So sorry I missed it. Forgot to mention that on Sunday they had 1 pool area shut down and that was where 4 of the slide dumped into. So that stunk. But on Monday at least 1 or 2 were open again so the girls got to do them. Here is the other problem - they have 1 set of stairs leading to the main slides. Going to the right was the "best" slide and going to the left were 3 tamer slides. The line for the 3 slides always went fast, but it was difficult to get past everyone who was on line for the "better" slide. Not well thought out in my opinion...plus the "better" slide took alot longer to get down.

Food: We ate down the road at 5 guys burgers and fries for lunch. I guess it was 6-10 minutes down the road. That was good. For dinner - in hindsight it would have been easier to just get my son dinner, then let the girls eat later. But already hearing opinions of the retaurant, we went out. That just took up to much time. If I do it again it will probably be pizza hut express at the lodge.

So I am going to try to go again. I am sure I will never get it for the rate I just got it at, but I am sad I missed out on Monday and would like to go again.

Let me know if you have any quesitons.

Hi. Glad you had a good time. I do have a ?? for you. We are going to be there this Thursday :cool1: how did you get the room upgrade? With my 3 kids (DD16,DD10,DS7) having the kidsuite would be great!

Thanks for your report.

When I checked in, I just asked if he had anything available for an upgrade. Then he asked me what I had in mind. Silly me - I didn't do any research into the other room types but did read other commenst about the kids area. So I just asked for that. He went into the back, came back and said no problem.

The kids area isn't a seperate room or anything. Its probably the size of a small bathroom. Just 1 set of bunkbeds and a tv hanging on the wall. It has 3 walls to it. It was nice that they could watch tv in there and we could watch out in the main area.

Maybe you should look into the rooms and if you are posed that question say well this would be great, but we would love the kid suite to. Wont hurt to give it a try.

Just a side note - I did try to tip him for the room upgrade, he wouldn't take it. Very nice kid, but i was slightly embarrased...i just dont know when thats appropriate. They take it in AC!!

Thanks for the info. I checked online just to see if they have any rooms available. Turns out they don't, but will ask anyway. You never know.

We just got back from GWL Sandusky and we loved it as well. We used 'the code' and weren't asked for any proof at check in. Our resort wasn't crowded at all and our DS liked the kiddie slides. :goodvibes

Curious that you had to get 'room keys'. Over Father's Day we went to the Grapevine location and our wristband was our waterpark pass, room key and charge card all in one.

The room key was a wristband. We got wristbands for the waterpark and then key wristbands for the room at a later time.

I dont know if our room had been ready at check in if my husband and i would have just 1 wristband - being the key and then the kids the regular bands?

Also I wasn't to observant, I know the people checking out on Sunday had orange wristbands, but I didn't notice if there keys were orange to.

We had green regular band and green key band.

Maybe someone else would know...

What Code? How'd I miss that?:confused3 ;)
We've been wanting to go there for a while... settled for Rocking Horse Ranch last winter- big mistake!:headache:

Great code on the budget board. Questionable as to if it should have been made public, and since it went public they changed the code and its requirements, but for a sunday we got the room for $99 plus tax. It was an unbelievable price!!

Only problem is, now that I want to try it again, the price is just sooooooo high!

What to do...

Just a note about food. We have gone to the GWL poconos twice. We only go for 1-2 nights and have learned to bring most of our own food. Not impressed with the restaurant and even the pizza seems to take forever. Can't quite figure out that system- I don't think they really keep track of who is waiting for pizza once the order is taken. Having a fridge and microwave allow for a lot of bring your own food options. We did not want to go thru the hassle of getting changed and going out for food.

I hear rumors GWL is coming to CT. That would be great. Anybody know anything about this?

What was wrong with the Rocking Horse Ranch? We were considering going there in the future.

My kids LOVED magiquest as much as the waterpark! However, we just got one wand as soon as we got there (kids ages between 5 and 12, old enough to understand the game well), put in an hour, went to the waterpark, and did magiquest after dinner. I did overhear a family buying the wands that evening, who were checking out the next day, and thought of warning them that it takes A LONG TIME. We were there for 2 nights, so it was worth it. It's also a great workout! :rotfl2:

I agree about the slide lines - my little ones just want the easy slides, but there is no way to get to them when it's crowded. We've left for food, but it does take a lot of time - pizza hut or bringing your own is the easiest way to eat.

We always stay in the Kids Cabin suite, the smallest on we can fit in. The rooms on the waterpark level seem bigger - much higher ceilings - but are noisier.

We went to the Rocking Horse Ranch years ago, during the summer, and we loved it. Yes, definitely dated and aging, but the kids loved it. I don't know if we'd go in the winter, because the pool and the lake were big draws for us.

We go a few times a year to either Sandusky, Mason or Traverse City. Usually they offer an $99 offer if you book before you leave.

I guess the Rocking Horse Ranch isn't so great anymore? Just curious, b/c I used to work there when I was about 20. I was a lifeguard & it was lots of fun. But I was curious to see how the Ranch was doing these days. I know the owners took on a new venture a few years ago, with a water park a few towns away.

As for Great Wolf, we went to the one in VA last year & loved it!

Oh! I love GWL. We're actually going back in a week and a half for my birthday. :lovestruc

Oh-- for take-out Chinese Food, China III is the BEST. It's just past the crossings in the shopping center behind the CVS. Best Chinese Food I've ever had. It looks a little dumpy, but the food is delicious.. and CHEAP!

Unfortunately, the Pocono location tends to be a lot more expensive than the other ones. :sad2:

Oh trust me, Traverse is EXPENSIVE! We actually just decided today to forgo that trip this year and go to Disney instead. It costs the same!

I think they're all expensive, but a Kids Cabin in Traverse in the middle of January is $230, and the same room and date is $310 in the Poconos (which is the rate that I usually book - never seen it cheaper!)!

If it makes anybody feel better, we are looking at a Loft Suite in January and the discounted price is $399.
I told DS he could invite 5 of his friends for his birthday, so by the time all is said and done we will easily spend $600. :scared1:
