Great Visit but unfriendly TMs throughout parks

UD(universal daughther) is handicapped with mobility issues and at each visit we had only positive experiences. One Tm even recognized UD from the previous year and made a fuss over her. This made her today and made her feel even more special than a princess. At WDW we have mostly had great CM interaction however a couple visits stand out for opposite reasons. At one the CM disagreed that we could get a GAC or tag to use handicapped stroller as a wheelchair for taking my daughter on Soarin. Still, for most part each place and nice, courteous employees.

Anyone who goes to both Universal and Disney and does not see a difference is just not paying attention, I have seen it many times.

At the Horror show they come right and say it in there skit "We don't have to be nice to you we are not Disney."

I have seen the workers at the cafeteria style restaurants yell at customers at least twice.

At the Shrek show they are extremly rude, I know some is part of the show but if you ask them a question you will get a really smart answer, I don't ever ask them anything anymore.

It was raining one day and at MIB this woman was screaming at people to take their ponchos off and if they don't they won't be getting on the ride.

Another time it was raining and I asked a worker at MIB if they would be having the Bettlejuice show and she said she never heard of it.

We rode the simpsons ride and this guy had claustophobia and jumped out of the car while it was moving, he started banging on the walls to be let out, we sat there for 10 minutes and nobody came in to see if we were ok, finally a mechanic came in to reset the ride.
A few minutes after that a worker finally came and told us to get back in line to get on the next ride, she acted like nothing ever happened, Hello this guy just jumped out of our car and freaked everyone out, don't you have anything to say!

I will say if you show your FOTL pass you get much better treatment, and at the hotel they are fantastic.

I love FOTL and really like the rides but I just expect really poor treatment at the park, I can put up with it for 2 days.

When I go to WDW my expections are really high for great service and I would never put up with any poor service.

WHERE? I mean, seriously, where is there to get out on that ride? I'm a good swimmer but I would never jump into that water!
They get out on the lifthill because they get scared. Or sometimes they'll unbuckle their seatbelts and try to avoid the water, so they'll run around on the raft itself and sit on peoples laps or in other empty seats, and since they're outside of the restraining system, an Estop must be hit, which drains the entire ride.

I've seen good and BAD service at both parks before, and I frequent both many, MANY times per year. Oh, BTW, I've also WORKED at both.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that at BOTH Disney and Universal they're using exchange programs, meaning that many employees are only there for a short time and then they go home and they hire new people. This means that quality control is more difficult and the knowledge of the employees is more difficult to remain constant.

As much as I enjoy interacting with the international and college CM's and TM's, I honestly believe that these companies should strive for keeping employees and making sure they are the best they can find, but they don't pay them enough.

I love both Disney and Universal but like others I have seen grumpy employees in both places.I saw a CM at the Finding Nemo show yelling at people to sit down and move over while reminding people he knew it was hot and crowded but if they didn t like it they could exit.I am a big guy and had trouble getting out of Ripsaw as a couple of TMs stood and watched me struggle without saying a word.

These people are employees and even though their jobs seem magical to some of us I am sure they all have bad moments.I have had 18 years of retail management experiece with customer service being the most important part of the job, but I can remember times when I lost it a little and had to apologize and go on.

Someone died on a Six Flags water ride similar to (but not nearly as rough as) the Popeye ride when the raft flipped over and she couldn't get out of her lap belt. They mentioned the water was about 4 feet deep, so if she could have got out all she had to do was stand up. I wouldn't be surprised to hear Popeye wasn't much deeper.

We were at Disney last week and it really seemed like something had changed. So many CMs seemed to go out of their way to be friendly and make conversation - like they started handing out Prozac at staff meetings or something. Maybe it was just me.

Generally, I think most people are nice at all the parks but so are the people at Publix. We're heading to Universal in a couple of weeks and I'll try to detect any difference.

Would you want them to try and help you out? They're not allowed to touch you. Or else a liability would be evident.

Motherland has CM....cast members
Darkside has TM.......team members

And on this side of the boards, we are all refugees from the motherland...welcome to the Darkside pirate:
But I've had good and bad at both parks. I've had team members step on my kids at US when they were sitting on the curb, I had a "cast" member look dead at my Universal hat and turn around and give the "year of a million dreams" thing to someone wearing a disney shirt. I've had great service at Tchoup Chop where they called me later and personally thanked me, and I've had great service at California Grill where they talked in great length about something silly that I had peaked an interest in. It all depends on what day you go, who you get and whats going on. Dont expect everything to be peachy all the time, otherwise you'll be disappointed by the pits.
