Great unknown tips or secrets!

These are some awesome tips. My cruise is in Oct.   Here are a couple I've thought of, if they are repeats, I'm sorry.

1. Bring a couple of stiff cardboard sheets with you so you can put the pictures that you buy, Navigators, or anything else that you want to keep flat for your return trip home.

2. Bring some extra hangers, we do this everytime and it always helps.

3. If you or someone with you is golfing and has golf clubs with them, use the extra pockets and pouches in the golfbag for extra things that you may not have room for in your luggage.

4. Bring snacks with you, their expensive on the ship.

5. For those scrapbookers out there, extra Navigators can be gotten at Guest Services each day, so you don't have to use the ones you mess up each day.

6. Also, towards the end of the cruise, at Guest Services, you can get extra luggage tag. For our scrapbooks, we take one each of all of them. We think it's a neat idea.

7. Dress up for Pirate Night pirate: , it makes things even more fun for everyone.

8. Most of all, enjoy your time on the ship.

This thread is wonderful. :thumbsup2

Yes, this is a great thread, thanks all.

My only tip is:

You are on a ship. It moves. You may feel movement. :thumbsup2
Don't let anyone tell you that it is so big you won't even know that you are on a ship!

a quick one I haven't seen here...

Before you go, buy some "business card" stock from WalMart or Office Depot (or even Walgreens) and print your own Cards with your Family's name, the individual members first names, and your address & email address, and the Cruise you are on - and where the "logo" goes, put a picture of your family.

These are great to give to the friends you've met onboard - so that if you want to stay in touch, you can without having to worry about writing everything down. Just give 'em a card on the last day and have 'em stick it in their wallets.

It's easy! and because it has your family picture and the cruise date, they'll know exactly who it is! :)

If you don't mind wire hangers, you can always ask your cabin steward for additional hangers.

If you order pb/j sandwiches, they'll likely be the Smuckers Uncrustables - ask for chips with them and you'll get small bags of Ruffles (or similar) which are great for when you (or your kids) want salty/crunchy, and the nice thing about the pb/j is that you don't have to keep it cool, and because they are sealed up, there isn't the same issue about bringing them on / off-board (at least I don't think there would be) as you might have with other types of sandwiches. We ordered pb/j several times on the Med cruise to have them to take with us on our excursions for the kids and we even ordered some the last night to have for the flight home. We also got extra bowls (individual serving kind) of cereal to take with us on shore excursions (our 11 y.o. had Fruit Loops and potato chips for lunch while we had a wonderful meal in Rome - go figure - but at least he didn't starve). We ended up having a couple of the cereals left over at the end of the cruise so we brought them back with us as well for the trip home -- although they didn't get eaten until I had one for my afternoon snack yesterday (a nice souvenir - hee hee).

Take plenty of quarters with you for laundry if you plan to do laundry so you don't have to worry about whether you can get change in the laundry room, and if you have somewhere that you can buy the individual boxes of laundry detergent for less than $1 / load, get a few before you go. We're DVC members and they always have a box in our room when we stay, but I always bring the liquid with us, so I saved up the boxes from our stays specifically for the trip. Or you can get the liquid in small containers for $1 for up to 4 loads at Target / Walmart if you prefer. They don't take up a lot of room - just remember to double-bag them before you pack them, and then you'll also have room for small souvenirs for the return trip home.

After 4 cruises, I just found out about the Castaway Club lanyards and pins. We've been lucky enough to travel in cat.3s so we check in the conceirge line. I guess you have to remind them you are a CC member and would like your CC goodies?

no they should give them to you at the checkin counter. When did you last cruise? I am not sure when they started the pins.

Is there water at the drink stations?

Instead of bringing or buying bottled water you could just bring refillable bottles and refill at the drink stations.

We did this on our RCCL cruise and then just brought our own insulated bottles ashore for excursions.

I am eager to know about this a well. We do not drink anything but water, and I was planning on having some bottles delivered to our hotel before the cruise. It would be much easier to just do the refilling thing.

DD has reflux, so she has to drink water - any DCL vet, please answer!

Yes, there is water and ice at the drink stations. I believe I read that the ship filters the drinking water by "reverse osmosis" which is the same way that Disani bottled water is filtered ( the only kind of bottled water that my family will drink!) We didn't even bother with bottled water or bottles on our 070707 Med Cruise - we just filled up cups with ice and water - EASY!!
IMO - don't waste your $$ on bottled water!

Have fun!

Yea! Thanks Sherri! That's what I was hoping for.

If you want to bring water in excursions I highly recommend purchasing some insulated water bottles with "cords" or straps on them for carrying them. We got some at Target a few years ago.

Here's my secret. As soon as you board go to the guest services desk, they usually have that day's navigator. This way while you are eating lunch you can check out the navigator instead of having to wait till your room is ready.

Thank you for sharing your secret! Now THAT is a great idea.:thumbsup2

Appeals to my obsessive/compulsive planning disorder.

Last year we were at Topsiders eating and I saw some families with the CC lanyards and pins so finally I asked and they said they got them at the counter... Well we didn't. We had plenty of time so I went back ashore and asked about them! Sure enough we were supposed to get them and they handed over enough for everybody.

I think the CM's forget sometimes particularly when they're real busy.
