We just returned from 5 days at BCV. Despite my concern based on previous posts, everything went very well. We had 4 rooms: 2 2BRs (477 and 478), and 2 Studios(449 and 450). 3 of the 4 rooms were ready at 2 pm, the 4th was ready at 4 pm. Our rooms were clean, in good shape, with no bugs of any kind! A/C operated well. The top lock on a couple of sliding doors wouldn't latch, but we just moved the furniture to another balcony in that unit so the kids couldn't climb up to the railing. Room 477 had a view of illuminations, 2 cranes, and a bit of monorail track, all of which was a big hit with the kids. Stormalong Bay was fantastic, especially since we lucked out with warmer than normal weather.
Our only negative was with the quality of information received from someone at the front desk when one of our kids fell onto the corner of a coffee table and was bleeding pretty badly from the forehead. My BIL calmly told them, "We have a small child bleeding from a head injury. It's not a 911 situation, but he does need to be looked at pretty quickly." They told him to bring him to a Centracare urgent care facility offsite. I asked my BIL to ask again if there wasn't something onsite, as I found it hard to believe WDW didn't have an EMTs around. The woman on the phone said the only other alternative was to bring my son back into a park to a First Aid center. Then she told BIL to, "Have a magical day."!!! Clearly a training issue, as my FIL walked down to the front desk and found a wonderful person named Hazel, who obviously had been around long enough to know, and she sent up the First Responders from the Marina. They were great, and after checking out my son, they contacted the Reedy Creek EMTs, who were also wonderful. They determined my son needed stitches, and they said they were "required to offer transport to the Emergency Room." The way they phrased it made me ask if we would get through the ER any faster if we went with them. They said No. Then I asked if there were any other options beside the ER, and they told me about a wonderful after hours Pediatric Clinic. After I said that's what I wanted to do, one of the paramedics said that's where he would take his kids; he just has to advise the ER for liability reasons. The clinic was calm, quiet, and decorated in a Finding Nemo theme. My son had a flat screen TV over his head on the exam table, with the remote on his belly, and he was able to flip back and forth between Finding Nemo and Emporer's New Groove. He had a blast, and never noticed the stitches going in. Hopefully no other parents have to deal with an injury while at WDW, but if you do, please be aware of the First Responders. Unfortunately I don't remember how to contact them, but she said they were there from 6am until 11pm. They are the first point of contact, and if they can't handle it, they call in the Reedy Creek EMTs. All of that was free of charge, too. The Pediatric Clinic was called After Hours Pediatrics, and was in the Crossroads shopping plaza, near a TGI Fridays.
