I was planning our summer vacation and checking airfares on Alaska Air, when I came across what I thought was a good airfare to Orlando from Seattle -- $139 USD each way.

We were planning Hawaii...but with the free dining, decent airfare, well...we just may reconsider going to WDW this summer.

Any other BCers thinking of going this summer???

I hope so!!!:worship::worship: Right now I am in the process of pricing everything out.... why is planning a trip so stressful?

in your experience is $300 canadian, pp the best price I will find?

tlc

I don't think $300 pp will be the *best* you can find. Southwest.com has just published their Aug/Sept rates. For our dates, it is $129 ea. way SEA-MCO, cheaper than the $139 Alaska Air rate. However, Southwest sometimes have stops, whereas Alaska is non-stop flight.

We just happen to really like flying with Alaska and we are enrolled in the Alaska Air Mileage Plan, where my points can get us 50% off our flights + I have a $75 voucher to use too. Return airfare for our family of 4 from SEA-MCO will be a total of only $584! :thumbsup2

Sounds really good. But not sure if I can give up Hawaii to do WDW. We already did DL during spring break.

Where on earth did you find that Alaska Air rate? I've been watching for weeks for Jun30 - Jul11. Just about ready to book Delta at $299USD each way. It's a Delta flight operated by Alaska - booking it thru Alaska will cost us about $100USD each way more.

I am seeing those Alaska/Delta rates too... now it looks as though booking through Alaska it's only $10 more a way instead of a near $100 more the other day.

I was going to fly Frontier but I think I'll go with that AK/DL flight now since I collect AS miles :) :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We are going at the end of August. There were some big seat sales going on for quite some time for earlier in the summer but I don't know if those are on still for the person asking about flights in July.

Okay, I found the $139US fares. The dates don't work for us. Went and checked everything again - as I got all excited about the fare drop. To book the same flight - if thru Alaska it's $558USD return excluding taxes and thru Delta it's $299USD return excluding taxes - direct flights. By the time I include taxes and times it by 4 - it's a $1120USD difference. I think I'm just going to book thru Delta and figure how we're getting from Victoria to Seattle later as we have a few options. The cost difference between the two flights is enough to fly us from Victoria to Seattle.

Anyone know if, I'll still be able to get Alaska Flight miles - with the flight being operated by Alaska?

smeecanada, I looked up your dates several weeks ago and saw the $139 fares for June/July dates, but much higher fares for the Aug/Sept dates. When I looked earlier this week, the $139 fares came up for Aug/Sept but were gone for June/July. I guess they got sold out.

To find out if you can get Alaska Air miles for your non-Alaska flight, go to their website and see if Delta is a mileage plan partner (I think it is, but double check). You would get points depending on the criteria they write on their website. I've gotten Alaska points after flying on Cathay because they are partner airlines; but I didn't once because my seat category did not meet the criteria to get the points.

Alaska is sometimes so expensive, but I find that if I check back regularly, there are some deal gems out there (like my $49 one way to Long Beach, California during spring break).

BTW, have you checked Southwest Airlines or Jet Blue? Would they have cheaper flights or current seat sales for your dates?

Also check Frontier and Airtran... i've been seeing nice rates for Frontier for later in the summer

I booked the flights thru Delta. When booking it asked about mileage plan number and Alaska is one that they accepted, so I'm happy.

I saw the $139 US one way flights on Alaska and there are some in July. The dates just didn't work for us. With the Delta flight it works out to $149.50US one way.

I looked at a few other Airlines, but the non-stop flight works best for us due to a medical issue. Also, the Delta non-stop flight is currently the best price anyways.

Now looking at options as to whether we'll take the car to Seattle or fly. Can anyone recommend a hotel with Park 'N Fly options?

We like MasterPark -- but you can always do a Sleep and Fly too if you are overnighting before your flight.

Congrats on booking your flights... Both times we have flowen out of Seattle I have left my car at the Best Western Executel. The rooms are nothing fancy but they were clean and comfy. They run a free shuttle to the airport, and I never had a problem with my car when I got back.

I think the longest I waited for them to pick us up was 15 mins so it was prefect.

Now I need to find some good flights for the end of august... all booked with disney .. :yay::yay:

Flight at 8:45am going and 9 something pm coming back, so we need to overnight both ways.

I need to check but I think that's where we stayed last August before we flew down for the REPO. Didn't have the car, so wasn't paying attention to Park n' fly options. I'll check into them. Good luck getting a flight.

smeecanada, I think your Delta airfare is a good price. The difference is not huge at all. You are really lucky that you're going to WDW! We still haven't made up our minds completely if that's really what we want to do this summer.

We really love using the Master Park Garage. It's secured parking, plus they are a partner with Alaska Air, so you can get points when you park there. Typical price is $14.95 per day. But if you check the Master Park website or the Alaska Airlines site, there are sometimes online coupons where it'd be $12.95 per day.

As for hotel, we use Priceline.com's name your own price option to get a hotel. We usually get the Doubletree Airport. Have gotten it for $50-$60 per night. Really nice rooms.

We don't like using the hotel lots because when my DH did some research about it, he found many reports of car thefts and break-ins. Master Park Garage has 24-hr. security and provides peace of mind for us while we are on vacation. I'm sure that others have had good experiences parking in a hotel lot. We just don't want to risk it.
