Great Stroller Debate - Tandems for Disney

I am SO SO SO excited to share that I found a Joovy Caboose Ultralight that was 30 minutes away. I got it for a stellar deal: $110; retails for $199-250 around me. It is in excellent shape, and my kids are even excited!! We are one step closer to Disney. Now I'm going to buy the Jolly Jumper rain cover since we are traveling in September (rainy season) and it's cheaper than the Joovy brand cover. I'm also going to get a couple of Dream Baby stroller fans one for the front passenger, one for the back passenger. I purchased one of these a few years ago for trips to the zoo, and my kids loved it. One of the fan blades was torn off of our old one, so replacement fans are in order for this big trip!! So excited :)

Glad you found what you had your heart set on and I hope it works well for you. The fans were only $6 when I bought mine at Walmart so maybe check there. Enjoy your trip! How long until your vacation?

I went about 18 months ago with a 3.5 and 6 year old and opted to rent a city mini double from one of the local companies. Worth every penny. The kids were comfortable - the older child would have complained about not having a "real" seat when she got tired for sure!! It was easy to push no matter what the terrain and easy to fold up. My only complaint is that the buses have no stroller storage areas!! Its ridiculous actually. And you have to fold it to ride on the bus. And its a pain on the trams if you drive and park yourself. I wouldn't have survived that trip without the stroller so it wasn't an option but I was surprised they don't have a better way to accommodate strollers on the transportation.

My brother used a joovy caboose tandem and he had a much harder time navigating it around the park with both his girls on it (same size and ages as mine). Not having the inflated rubber wheels made it harder. he opted to leave it at the hotel and make the kids walk the last two days! :)

My kids will be 3 and 5 1/2 when we go this fall, they already weigh almost 30 and 50lbs. Do you think they will be too heavy for the City Mini Double? I'm thinking about renting instead of trying to take two singles.

We used a stroller for our 4 year old and 6.5 year old last year and plan to use one again this coming trip. We rent a City Mini GT and love it. Sometimes, we do end up leaving it parked for a while, but we always need it on the way to/from the buses! It also gives the kids a comfy spot to sit while watching parades & fireworks.

Tabistar, did you find it wide? Tricky to move through crowds? We will have a barely 8 year old (very tiny girl) and 3.5 year old and are waffling about renting single vs double...the idea of being able to hustle because both are in the double is very appealing but I worry about the width factor with crowds.

It's definitely nice to be able to put both kids in and walk faster! This past time, we were there at Thanksgiving, so the crowds were pretty high. We got stuck behind some slow people a few times while exiting large-capacity attractions (like Fantasmic!), but I think that would happen even without a stroller. There were a few doors we couldn't fit through just because of the way they had the door propped open (I think at the confectionery at MK?), but there were other options for entering/exiting. We even took the stroller into Starbucks in MK without any issues! The few little inconveniences were definitely worth the benefits, which is why we'll be renting a double again in September.

Thank you so much - I am convinced!

I don't think so, I may have gotten the Citi Mini Double GT which might be slightly larger. And i'm pretty sure it holds up to 100 lbs total. I thought it was easier just having one stroller - the parking isn't always right at the ride or restaurant entrance so I would wait with the kids and my husband would go park the stoller and come back to meet us. And if we needed to split up, both of the kids were old enough to walk if necessary so that wasn't an issue.

We have 2 children (ages 3.5 and 6.5). Over the years, we've owned quite a few strollers. We've had a Graco Quattro Tour Duo which was a tandem. It wasn't hard to push, had great storage and had 2 fully reclining seats. My only complaint is that it was heavy. My favorite stroller is our current one. We have a City Micro which is light weight and easy to fold. Last summer we rented a City Mini Double. It was great. It was pretty light weight and easy to fold. My kids were comfortable and the full sun shade (which I find on only Baby Jogger strollers) was wonderful. This summer (my kids will be 7 and 4) we are headed back to WDW and we will be renting a City Mini Double GT. My son is too talk for the regular double. I actually was tempted to buy a Double that was for sale on a local momma's group for less than half the price new, but passed since we'd only use it for Disney. My son walks every where else. Disney is too much for little legs and he's easier to keep track of in a crowd. My daughter is a runner and has sensory processing disorder as well as some other medical issues which make it necessary for her to have somewhere to hang out.
