Great Movie Ride scary for kids

Thanks for all the great information. I think my DS would survive the Alien part with some advanced warning, but the gunshots and hijacking may be too much for him. Not even sure what happens on the Wizard of Oz part of the ride. I think we will skip it this trip.

Thanks again.

DS started riding it when he was four months old. When he was a toddler we'd cover his ears during Alien and he was fine for the rest.

My daughter has grown to love this ride. I prepared her for the scary parts, so she knew to listen to me when I told her to close her eyes and cover her ears. She loves Mary Poppins and the Wizard of Oz, so she really wanted to ride it to see those parts of it. She learned that she had to take the bad with the good. I agree about previewing it on Youtube. We did that, and it worked wonderfully!

My DD was absolutely horrified by the ride when she was 4. It really put a damper on any more rides that trip; she just refused to go on any. If you think your son might freak out, do yourselves a favor and skip it! :thumbsup2

(True story--DH and I honeymooned at WDW and we rode this ride for the first time with a kid that was scared. We were so mad that the parents didn't realize their kid would get scared on the ride and "ruined" it for the rest of us. Of course, we vowed we would be much better parents than those amateurs. Oops.)

my kids were 3 1/2 and 11 months and were not at all afraid. I explaned there would be fire and water in the tanker scene so they were prepared. I plan to take them again next week

You "explained" this to an 11 month old and the baby understood? Wow...sounds like a genius baby. It also sounds like you are describing the back-lot tour with the fire and water scene, not the great movie ride.

My 6 year old hated the great movie ride. She kept her head buried in my lap until it was over and she swore to never go on it again.

My 3 y/o son was not a fan of this ride. The gun shots scared him, the alien freaked him out and the wizard of oz scene with the munchkins had him crying. However my 2 y/o laughed & clapped through the whole ride. It depends on the child and how they react.

I know I will not be making my son go back on the ride any time soon. For our upcoming trip DH said he'll take our DD1 on it and I'll take DS and DD2 for a snack.
