Great, budget appetizers?

I do the sausage and cream cheese and then fill mushroom caps with the mixture. Bake it for 15 min at 350. Yummy stuffed mushrooms

We do the sausage and cream cheese and put it in hulled out jalapeno peppers. I think there is a shake of seasoning salt in it too. Bake until the pepper is soft. SPICY but yummo :)

That's why I have two Rubbermaid Egg Taker containers...though 2 trays is never enough for our gatherings. The only downside of them is that each will hold 20 eggs - weird that they didn't think to hold to an entire dozen of egg halves.

I agree with the cost. We always have Miracle Whip (sorry, no Mayo in our deviled eggs) and yellow mustard...the most basic of recipes is the one liked best in our house.

How do you make your deviled eggs? I have only made them twice, and I remember using mayo, mustard, sugar and vinegar. I have looked up other recipes and they call for some wierd items!!

If you run the math, deviled eggs will just about always be the cheapest thing you can bring to a party. After you buy the eggs, you probably have the rest of the ingredients in your fridge already. Deviled eggs are kind of a pain to transport though.:wave2:

We've discovered the easiest way to transport deviled eggs is to prepare the yolk mixture and spoon it into a plastic ziploc bag. You then have to transport only the unfilled whites on the serving dish (easily covered w/plastic wrap) so no mess. When you arrive at your destination, cut a small corner off of the bottom of the plastic bag and squeeze out the yolk mixture into the whites (like using a pastry bag). It just takes a couple of minutes to fill them, and you can sprinkle them with paprika or dill to garnish. :thumbsup2

sounds so odd but i just made it on sunday and it was amazing. Huge hit.

Bag of frozen meatballs (you can use turkey if you're being healthy)
1 jar of Heinz chili sauce
1 jar of grape jelly
(the jelly and the chili sauce i used were both 12 oz)

Combine the chili sauce and jelly in a sauce pan. Simmer till jelly is melted, stirring occasionally. Then throw everything into a crock pot.

sooo good!

Do you put the frozen meatballs in the crockpot with the sauce mixture? How long do you cook it for?

i make the meatballs w/the jelly and chili sauce, BUT i make the meatballs - use about 1 pound of meat - 1 jar chili sauce and about 1 cup of jelly...i brown the meat in the oven for about 15 minutes..then i add it to the crockpot - (while thats in the oven, i have the sauce mixture in the crockpot getting warm) then cook in crockpot on low for 5-7 hours!

Sausage and Crescent roll pinwheels

Open a package of crescent rolls and lay out on a cutting board into a large rectangle and pinch together the perforations. Thinly spread 1/2 lb. of zesty hot ground breakfast sausage on the entire rectangle of dough. Roll up starting with the longest side (so that the finished log is as long as it can be), wrap in plastic wrap and freeze to make slicing easier. Slice into 1/4" or 3/8" pieces and bake at 350 deg. for 12-14 minutes. These can be made ahead of time and frozen making them a great last minute appetizer. 1 lb. of sausage and 2 packages of crescent roll dough will make quite a few of these.

I make this all the time. I brown 1 roll sausage, throw it in my small crockpot with 1 block of cream cheese and a can of rotel. You can double, triple deoending on how many people. Everyone loves this!

I don't have measurements, have always eyeballed it and adjusted to taste. Add to egg yolks: regular or lite miracle whip, yellow mustard and a splash of milk. Mix in food processor for smooth filling. Garnish with a sprinkle ground paprika. Miracle whip already has the vinegar in it, and I don't see a reason to sweeten. I like them with a little tang.

I do a similar dip but with additions.

1 lb sausage
1 block cream cheese
2 cups salsa
1/2 an onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
10 oz frozen chopped spinach

Brown sausage and drain. Cook onion and garlic with sausage until soft. Add cream cheese and salsa to skillet until cheese is melted. Stir in spinach and heat through. Serve with tortilla chips.

I've also used it as a "sauce" for pasta...yummy!

My neighbor brought meatballs to an open house last week and "shared" the recipe. Take cooked meatballs (your own or frozen) she used Sams's Clubs, put in a crock pot with BBQ sauce to cover. She used Sweet Baby Rays. Cook until heated through. Serve in crockpot with toothpicks. That was it and they were the hit of the party!

You don't need to cook them all day so if you want to speed up the process heat the meatballs ( in the oven) and heat the sauce (micro would be great) Then put both ingredients together in a crockpot and heat for a few hours or so. Crockpot makes them easy to transport and serve.

Enjoy!

Oh, and here's another variation of the jelly/meatball recipe that I want to try-from OceanSpray

Ultimate Party Meatballs
Ingredients:

1 14-ounce can Ocean Spray® Jellied Cranberry Sauce
1 12-ounce bottle Heinz® chili sauce
1 2-pound bag frozen, pre-cooked, cocktail-size meatballs

Directions:
Combine sauces in a large saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring until smooth. Add meatballs. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until meatballs are heated through, stirring occasionally.

Makes 30 appetizer servings.

Slow cooker Preparation: Place meatballs in a slow cooker. Combine sauces and pour over meatballs. Cover and cook 4 hours on HIGH.

This sounds really good and I want to try this Christmas or New Years

Buffalo Chicken dip was served at the last 4 parties we went to. It's so good and so easy! We're making it for Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup Ranch dressing
3/4 cup hot sauce (such as Frank's Red Hot)
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat, until heated through. Stir in cream cheese and ranch dressing. Cook, stirring until well blended and warm. Mix in shredded cheese and transfer the mixture to a slow cooker. Stir and cook on low until hot and melted.

You can substitute fresh cooked chicken instead of canned if preferred. Just chop it into small pieces or shred it. Serve with crackers, sliced celery, and tortilla chips.

Sausage balls: Everyone fights over them.

2 cups Bisquick
10 oz. EXTRA SHARP shredded cheddar cheese
1 pound ground sausage

Mix it all together...it takes awhile, but stick with it...lol. I use my hands and mix until it makes a big ball of dough. Roll into balls about the size of a large marble or walnut. You can put alot on a cookie sheet. They puff up but not much, so I usually put about 60 or so on a sheet. Bake until they've browned, 350 degrees about 15-18 minutes. Everyone loves them. I usually have to make a double recipe, and really, you can't mess them up. Usually I "eyeball" everything and they still come out great.

Cheese Bomb - not for the those on a diet :rotfl2:

Round of pumpernickel bread. Night before hallow-out out a bowl-shaped hole and leave out overnight to dry out. Save the bread lid to use as a cover for the oven. Take the piece you cut out and cut up into bit-sized pieces and put in storage bag to use for dipping tomorrow :)

6 cloves of garlic chopped finely (or more -depends on how much mistletoe is around ;))
4 tsp. of butter
chopped green onions ( I never add this).
can of artichoke hearts
Block of cream cheese
block of cheddar cheese - grated
16 oz of sour cream

Melt the butter in a saucepan add garlic - saute for a few minutes until garlic is soft and butter in nice and hot.

In a bowl add all three cheeses, the hot butter and garlic mixture, and the artichoke hearts. Mix with hand blender until blended and smooth. Throw into the pumpernickel bowl and put bread lid on top. Wrap well in aluminum foil. I usually have enough to con into a corningware dish also. Bake for 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees. Toss bread lid and put in platter - you can line the platter with purple lettuce if you want it to look pretty.

Cube up leftover pumpernickel and cube Cuban or French bread and put around the cheese bomb. You can serve with bread sticks or crackers.

This is sooooo good and easy to make. I am required to make this every holiday.

These are awesome, we used to make them at scout camp during winter campouts, and they were delicious.

Take:

8 oz of Cream Cheese (room temperature)
1 chopped green onion (or to taste)
2 diced pieces of cooked bacon

cream them together, then whip in one dozen eggs, add a dash of cayenne, pour into pre-made pastry puffs (frozen food section) and bake according to pastry puff directions. We usually use 350 degress for 20-30 minutes.

Should make about 24 pastry puffs per recipe if you put in 2 tablespoons of mux per puff. Looks fancy and easy to make. You can add other things like chopped fresh spinach or sprinkle parmesian cheese on top before baking etc.

Merry Christmas!
