Great and unusual things to do..

Depends on when you travel. Check out threads here on "Things that are free at Disney" and "Hidden Gems"...

Watch Miyuki the "Candy Lady" at the Japan pavilion at Epcot. So entertaining!

These are some great suggestions! A few things we've done and are excited to do in August are:

The Illuminations cruise... great trip, expensive, but you can split the boat up with people here. Book the boat then list it here (there used to be a thread where you could list your trip) and you can fill your boat and split the cost.

The Beaches and Cream Kitchen sink... the whole family's excited about that one!!

The mini maze in Epcot down the road across from The Rose n Crown. It's a bush maze, really fun for the kids! There was a stage back there where the beatles tribute band plays.

Request to be the Flag family - we did this during our last trip to the wilderness lodge. Be the family that gets to go to the top of the hotel and raise the flags. It was a great view and the kids loved it! Lots of great photo opps! I'm not sure if every resort has it, but Wilderness Lodge does.

the barber shop at Magic Kingdom

And the wishes dessert fireworks... I'm all over that one! :thumbsup2

One of my personal favorites is Wishes Desserts. It isn't advertised that much, but information for it is published on the Disney website, and you can find a number of articles with a simple Google search. Basically, it is a dessert buffet and perfect place to watch the Magic Kingdom Fireworks. It is very relaxed, and well worth the extra price. Surprisingly, they don't run out of desserts, and they also have a photographer there so you can get a picture with Cinderella's castle lite up in the background of your family photo.

Does this cost extra? My family and I are considering going soon and are on a very, very tight budget and looking for some fun/special things that dont cost extra. This sounds great, but if it costs extra we would probably have to for go it. I see that they accept the quick service dining plan, I wonder if that would count for something like this.

Rent a bike at VWL and ride the paved bike path over to the campgrounds. Along the way you can see deer. The bike path end at the stables at FW. Park your bike and walk around the barns and look for hidden mickeys inside the barn.

Yes wishes dessert is extra $21-$25 for adult and $11 -$13 for kids. And the dinning plan can not be used for this event. Here is more info

I always recommend a charter fishing excursion  to anyone looking for something different while they are in WDW. You have two hours with a guide on one of the lakes on property - the guide will do as much or as little as you need them to do. They will bait hooks, help you cast out and take the fish off of the line for you..... or you can do it all yourself and just let them take you from location to location. It is all catch and release which is good since most people don't actually have anywhere to cook them anyway! :rotfl:

We have done it several times and it is a fantastic way to do something new and different. We go early in the morning out of the Contemporary marina and have breakfast there when we return.

Unfortunately, as Shelly mentioned in an earlier post, there is an additional cost for this, but let me provide this small piece of information for you.... Visiting Disney World, and planning it right is what makes Disney such a magical place. When I asked my daughter to pick one thing, and one thing only that we did the last trip, that we have to do on our next trip, it was Wishes Fireworks Desserts. It is relaxing for adults, delicious for the kids, and simply the best place to see fireworks for the evening. Just my 2 cents, but it is well worth the price at least once. Eat a late lunch/early dinner to prepare for the buffet. Oh, and if you can swing it, don't tell your family about it.... Surprise them with it!! :wizard:

The last time we were there I signed my (then) 9 year old DS up for surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon.

It isn't advertised that well, but it was well worth every cent. We got to be at the park before opening and the experience was amazing!! The teaching staff were absolutely outstanding! We come from a part of the world where surfing is hard to come by. I've never seen my boy stand so tall or proud then the day he learned how to surf at Disney.:cool1:

So my favorites are

Studios- putting our arms in the dogs nose at Honey I shrunk the kids playground. Holding the singing in the rain umbrella. Pulling on the rope outside Indiana Jones show and eating ice cream from Gertie the giant dinosaur.

Epcot - watching the mini train near Germany, Henna painting at Morrocco, finding the three pane window from Belle at France, getting a pearl at Japan.

Mk - riding the Liberty Belle to see the indian encampment fron the Kingdom Keeper books, finding the talking telephone on main street.

Watching the water parade on the beach of Fort Wilderness.

Thats all I can think of right now. Does that help?

Ooh, never saw the singing in the rain umbrella! Where is that?

Umbrella is @ Studios back near the Lights camera action show at a corner. Its a black umbrella hanging on a light post. You hold it and step on a square block on the sidewall and it will rain. My kids love it!

How cool! After nine trips with the kids, I don't know how we have missed this! We will definitely be on the lookout next trip!

Thanks so much!

Do they still offer the Archery lesson at Ft Wilderness? That could be fun for a 13 year old!

Renting sea racers at the Poly or renting a bike at the Wilderness Lodge and ride on the paved path to the camp grounds. Then go through the barns there and see the horses and look for hidden mickey's in the barn

Spend a day resort hopping. it free and you get to check out other places to stay. Go to the Poly at dusk and watch the lighting of the torch ceremony at the main enterance to the resort.

Something fun we did on our last visit that was free was hanging out at the pool party at our resort. They have games for the kids and a trivia contest. The trivia contest was Disney themed of course. Our family won!! :cool1:

It really was a lot of fun and not something we normally do because we are kind of the shy and retiring type. LOL The resort activities staff were great and made it really fun. It made for a nice afternoon doing something different.

Yehaa Bob was fabulous. Really funny. Also love the drawing clas at DHS.

There's a backstage tour at the Animal Kingdom that goes out on the Kilimanjaro Safari savanna. Has anyone done this and is it worth the cost?
