Great AKL Experience

We spent 11/30-12/04 at the AKL. I was our first stay on Disney property and it could not have been more magical. We intended to check in on our way from my parent's timeshare to the AK, but we were running late and checked in afterwards instead. We walked in and right up to the desk. She had our reservation pulled up almost immediately and told us we would be in a room with two beds. We asked very politely if it was possible to switch to a bunk bed room because our kids really wanted that. They switched us immediately. We did have a bit of a hike from the elevator, but when we walked in and saw giraffes from our balcony we didn't care. The kids were thrilled and so were we! The room was a bit small, but comfortable and it already had a refrigerator and a pack and play in the closet for our six month-old with the most adorable Mickey sheet for it. I gave my kids little gifts each morning, one was a pair of Shrek and Donkey puppets with which Mousekeeping delighted my kids by putting them in a different spot each afternoon. We didn't get to do nearly as many activities there are we would have liked, but we loved our room and our stay there. Any other ?'s

Can you tell me how big that refrigerator in the AKL room was? We are going in about 10 days and plan to stop from some groceries on the way. Will a gallon of milk fit? Thanks in advance!

We had plenty of room for a gallon of milk, a few water bottles and some grapes. Enjoy your stay, we had a blast there. :D

I was there earlier this week and the refrigerator was a small dorm size model with a shelf in the middle. You might do better with half gallon jugs you could lay on their side.

Wow! Thanks for the quick answers! We are very excited! One week from Wednesday!!! Woo-hoo!

Another question - did you swim? Was the pool warm enough? It looks to be around 75 when we're there.

Any particular section of AKL you would want to be in? I highly prefer a quiet area over something close. We have a Standard pool view reserved with connecting rooms.

We stayed (family of 4 - 2 DD's 7 and 5) over Xmas. We had a Sav. view room, but it was at the end of the hallway. It didnt face either side Sav. IT was a room at the end. I was very disappointed with it. But the neat thing we discovered was that ALL the animals went past our room all the time. They would go from the main Sav. then, around to the back of the resort, thus traveling by our room. IT couldnt have been better. The easiest way to explain our room is to picture a horshoe shape and we were at the top of the horseshoe. It was very private which the animals seem to enjoy b/c there are few rooms right there. Then I actually went outside on the stairwell and could have access to the side Sav.

The rooms were a bit dark, but that is part of the AKL I guess, so I liked it. OVerall our fav resort, and hopefully you guys will like it!

I didn't find it dark at all. I loved the rich colors of the woods and fabrics. I would have been disappointed to find it looked any different than it did.

I was on a main hallway and guests were in rooms on either side, and we had a connecting room, and i never heard anything. It was perfect.

We thought AKL was a truly beautiful resort. We were situated at the top of the "horseshoe" as well. It's such a peaceful resort. The only thing we did not like were the very small rooms...very small. I felt claustrophobic in them. The balcony was very small too...and for that reason only we probably will not stay there again. AKL is a great resort to visit with your kids even if you are not staying there.

DH *thinks* there was a coffee pot there, but we've slept since then. We don't drink coffee, but I seem to remember a pot on top of the fridge.

Glad you had a great time! Can you tell me how long the bus rides were to the parks? This would be the only reason I might not be inclined to stay at this resort, as AK is our least favorite park to visit. We spend our time at MK and MGM for the most part and a day at Epcot.

Thanks!

Therese
