anyone study for theirs? If so, what did you use - a software, or book or a tutoring service?

Getting anxious about having to take it - haven't had a standardized test in YEARS - I know I have to find some math refresher

I got one of the books that had practice tests in it, but didn't really study.

I didn't study. I figured I would take it once and see how I did first. I ended up getting a high enough score for the grad school I planned to attend so I was done. :thumbsup2

It's been years since I took it, but I don't remember it being extremely difficult. :goodvibes

A lot of my friends just took it and they all bought a book. Most of them prefered the Princeton Review. They all read through the book and completed the practice tests in the back of the book.

OP- if you're worried about the math maybe you should consider getting a GRE tutor for the math or take a refresher course in addition to purchasing a book? I know how difficult standardized math can be!

Good luck! :)

I didn't study either. Funny thing was I did MUCH better on the math part, and that's my weak subject. I happened to get a lot of geometry questions on my test and DS had just finished geometry in high school. It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be.

I took the GRE a while back, but it wasn't for anything that had to do with math, so I didn't really study--the math portion was just going to be ignored. I took the GMAT last summer and bought this book as a math refresher:

I bought a book with practice questions and studied that.

I also took a review course since I am pretty lousy at math. The review course definitely helped to spiff up my math skills.

Between those two things I ended up scoring fairly well.:)

Thanks for the tips! I'll be checking things out - I know nothing about what score is expected or even when the test is offered - I just know I want to get in the program in the fall -if possible.

I got the cd that came after registering and practiced with that. I'm glad I did just to get a feel for the formatting of the computer program. I was so used to paper and pencil standardized tests that I was glad to get a feel for the program. I would be careful what you wear, too. Wear layers, but don't plan to get to keep a coat on, or zippered sweatshirt. My center was weird about what could be worn and what you could take in with you, and it was SO cold in there!! I was just so cold and they wouldn't let me have my jacket (really a zip up sweatshirt). Getting the score immediately though is amazing and such a relief.

I took a Kaplan course and it was worth it. The GRE was tough and then I went to a grad school that didn't need the scores....go figure...:rotfl:

Ask the program what GRE score you need for entrance. My counseling program clearly stated on their literature that you needed a 1000 between the math and verbal sections for admission. Unfortunately they didn't consider the analytical score at all and I nailed that section.

FWIW I scored almost exactly the same on the GRE that I did on the SAT in high school. I thought that was interesting.
