We have a group of 8 dining but can't get one table. My question is, since we will be at 2 tables will there automatically be a gratuity added to our tab?

Odds are real good that you will be at one table (well, two smaller tables pushed together). Every restaurant I've worked at will try to do this *if possible*. No guarantees though! And yes, since the ADR was made for 8 guests there will be an auto grat.

We made all our reservations for 5, I know it's not 8 and auto tip, but when we arrived at each restaurant, we had to have them split the tab since we were on the dining plan with 2 different rooms. It was never a problem, but our gratuity was included with the dining plan so they would receive it either way. You can always ask for seperate bills.

Figure if they bring you together to one table (i.e., served by one server), the automatic 18% gratuity will apply. If you're left at separate tables (i.e., served by different servers), then it probably won't.

We were there a party of 8 seperate tables, and they applied the tip automatically.

Even if you are at two tables (and/or getting seperate checks) you will be charged the automatic 18% if you are booked at the restaurant as one party. ps...There is a good chance you will be seated all together. :upsidedow We were a party of 9 and were seated at one table everywhere we dined. :thumbsup2

Hmm... okay thanks for the correction.

I thought there was always an automatic tip of 18%? I'm misinformed I surmise judging by this thread, what party size does that kick in on?

Parties of 8 or more but I think this might be lowering to 6 or more as I've seen different notes about Grat on the UK and US Disney World Websites.

The only way you aren't charged Grat for a party of 8 is if you are 2 seperate bookings but then there is no guarentee you'd be sat at the same time or anywhere near each other so its not really worth it and hey it means you don't have to work out the tip at the end of the meal. If the service is awful you are still within your rights to ask for it to be removed.

Yup... it will be parties of 6 or more.

I booked ADR's for six people and they told me gratuity would be included. One of the six is an infant who won't even be eating but he counts towards the six. I think that is kind of crazy.

Trouble is they have to make it a workable thing so saying Grat is added to all parties of 6 is more workable than saying to all parties of 6 eating guests. I used to work in the Rose and Crown and I know at some point someone tried to claim that even though there were 8 of them 2 of them had shared a main meal so grat shouldn't be added and as my manager pointed out I had still dealt with 8 people on the table for drinks etc whether they all choose to eat main meals or not.

Indeed, in that case, I think a fairer policy would be to charge 24% (18% X 8/6), to account for the fact that the server had to serve two extra diners, but the cost of meals for those two diners is not reflected in the bill subtotal.
