We saw this yesterday at the granite warehouse our fabricator took us to. We liked it and are thinking of going with it.

Our cabinets are mid to dark tone maple w/chestnut stain (reddish brown). We ordered a sample cabinet door which should be here in about a week. When it comes we will go back and take another look at the granite, it's on hold.

I'm open to other suggestions as well though...

I love granite, so I say go for it!! What does "millenium cream" look like? I'm guessing that it's light-colored. Did they tell you anything about how you can't put hot stuff on granite (or whatever the rule is)? Granite isn't the absolute easiest countertop surface, but it looks so darn good that it's worth the hassle IMHO!!

The contractor who owned our new house before us left a 7' granite countertop in the house for some reason. The counters in the house are new and they're tiled. We may try to get more of this granite (a dark green/black) and have it installed as some point :) We wouldn't need much more, and it would look great. I love granite!!

Keep the cabinet color in mind
But match the Counter tops to the floor
or vice versa
if you have light counter tops you need a light floor
if you have dark counter tops you need a dark floor
the wood will match with any color it is what look you like
This is my opinion and what my contractor told me (and he is anal-but does great work) and I was happy with the results :bounce:
you also may wnat to pick the back splash last
and you may even want to leave it for last minute as you can darken or brighten the room with the color choice. --ofcourse the shad has to match the counter top

This is a floor to ceiling re-do, so we haven't picked the floor tile or the backsplash yet. But I had heard the same thing, that the horizontal surfaces should match.

crissyk... yes, Millenium Cream is a lighter shade. A cream backbround, with some gray/tan/brown/even a red running through it. My kitchen is on the small side and with the darker cabinets, I didn't want to close it in too much.

Did they tell you anything about how you can't put hot stuff on granite

Absolutely not true. You can put hot pans directly on granite. You cannot with Corian or Formica.
