Grandpa vs. sofa bed

What about taking the mattress and putting it directly on the floor?

Can't be done.

There are only 25 dedicated two bedroom villas with two queen beds. There are other dedicated two bedroom villas, but they are too small for two queen beds, thus the double sleeper sofa in the room.

I'd leave dad at home this time and bring him on the next trip. Unless he and MIL want to get together. ;)

Personally, imo, its not about whether the pull-out is comfortable or not it is about respect. Out of respect I would never put my Dad, my childs grandpa, on a pull-out. He didn't work hard all his life and raise me right to be down-graded to a pull-out I would sleep on the pull-out before him.

I would work something else out that meant my dad could sleep on a bed.

But thats just me.

I don't think it's disresepctful at all. We don't know their family situation. Some famlies travel together a ton & are very comfortable sleeping wherever. A lot of people go camping, and sleeping arrangements just aren't as important to some as they are to others. We go camping & all family members, young & old either share beds or sleep in sleeping bags on the floor, however it works out. No one cares, as long as we all have a sleeping space. I wouldn't feel at all like I was disrespecting an elder to have them sleep on a pull out couch. Who knows - maybe a pull out couch is a step up from what he's used to at home!

Gotta agree that Dad and Mil gets the real beds. At 69 yrs old he should get the real bed. Daughter and sil gets the pull out and grand kids can sleep anywhere.
Or rent DVC points and get:
1)2 bedroom with 1 king and 2 queens. Dad gets king and Mil and kids get 2 queens. Kids sleep anywhere.
2) 3 bedroom and everyone gets a real bed and Dad and Mil are happy. Grand parents should always get the real beds.

No three bedroom villas at BCV. And there are only 25 two bedrooms with two queen beds.

But they are at OKW, BLT, AKV, SSR, BWV,. Also all the DVC's have two bed room villas. I would look at these before I ever put my father on a pull out.
Just me. I am sure that the OP will do whatever is in the best interest of her father. On a side note, if it was my MIL she would get the pullout in the back of the truck. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No one over the age of 30 belongs on a pull-out!!!!! :scared:

Unless you don't mind it.

My aunt, who is my cousin's children's grandmother, LIKES pullout beds. She's 70, and simply enjoys them. They don't hurt her, and she volunteers for them. (she has stayed at OKW so far)

So the OP should ask her dad.

She IS looking at a 2 bedroom villa. Except for some rooms at Bay Lake, and all rooms at OKW, there's one bed and one pullout sofa in the second bedroom.

But even if she did get an OKW villa, she's going to have her dad and her husband's mom sleep in the same room? I would feel REALLY weird having my dad and hubby's mom sleep in the same room, and while my dad probably wouldn't mind, MIL certainly would.

I'd get another studio along with the 2 bedroom....

No we don't know their family situation & maybe it is a step up but that is irrelevant - they are going somewhere where beds are supplied. They are not camping, they are staying at a resort. We also travel a lot together as a family - 4 generations sometimes :) - I would have my father sleep in a bed before myself but thats the way I was brought up, your elders come first.

When staying in a DVC villa all 2 bedroom villas have 2 queens except for BWV. The have 1 queen and 1 pull out. BCV has an option for either 2 queens or 1 queen and 1 full pull out bed. Dad and MIL does not have to share a room. Either Dad or MIL gets the king and the other shares a room with two queen beds with the grandkids. Daughter and sil or son and dil get the couch with the queen size bed.

Not all two bedroom villas have two queens in the second bedroom except for BWV. BWV has no two bedrooms with two queen beds because there are no dedicated two bedroom villas at BWV. Most all dedicated two bedroom villas will have two queen beds in the second bedroom, except for some of the dedicated two bedroom villas at BCV. And all two bedroom villas at OKW, dedicated or lockoff, have two queen beds in the second bedroom. No lockoff, except for OKW, has two queen beds in the second bedroom.

If you can book a dedicated room with 2 queens in the second bedroom why aren't the kids on the sofa bed??

I know you want BCV but there are definite options for resorts with dedicated 2BRs with 2 beds in the second room Would there be an issue sleeping in the same room but on different beds?

We were there a year ago. My dh and I 43 and 42 then and my kids 16, 11, and 7 then wanted nothing to do with the couch beds. We did take turns, but we had sore backs and they lack privacy. So I'd give it a 3.

We are planning our visit to WDW this October and we are inviting my dad (Grandpa to the kids) along for the trip. We are considering staying the BCV but he would wind up sleeping on the couch bed (my MIL is also coming and she gets the queen bed). I have slept on couch beds before and there are couch beds and then there are couch beds: sometimes they are good enough and sometime you are better off sleeping on a bed of nails :scared1:. So, I am very worried that we condemning my dad to a week of sleeplessness if we wind up at the BCV.

So my question to the DISboards community: How are the couch beds for a grandpa (he is about 69 years old)? Maybe rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being a bed of nails and 10 being upstairs at Cinderella's castle)?

TIA!

No no. Don't know if I could handle my MIL being my mother. Ha ha! (That really did make me laugh...)

Looking like I am going to wind up with the queen sofa sleeper with my wife. Uggh. We will likely bring an air mattress and put it on top of the sleeper and hope neither one of us rolls off. Or put it on the floor.

We're now booked into OKW. My MIL was uncomfortable with the share a room idea, but had a similar suggestion. We will use a raised comfort smart air bed. While we were never about to place a child on a bed before my Dad or MIL, my wife and I were focused more on the room assignments than anything else. We've asked everyone individually, and each family member has agreed to take turns on the raised bed so no one person's back pays the price night after night if it isn't comfortable. My Dad's great with sleeping on it as well, so hopefully all will work out in the end.
