Grandpa Mohawk & BroganMc's NYE Live Trip Report

Well I have a new subtitle for this year's trip: The Magical Musical Rooms Game

Today was supposed to be an easy one, right? Get up when we can, call Bell Services and have them hold our luggage, go to Animal Kingdom then the Lodge for dinner and back to settle into the Grandstand.

First I get up, just to do your morning empty bladder ritual, lay down to get a half hour more rest and promptly fall asleep for 3 hours. Mid-sentence of a post. Next I know GM is waking me up and Housekeeping is knock on the door. So rush through a shower, pack up my bags and vacate the room. I thought the room was down for maintenance but I guess housekeeping doesn't get the memo. Or they want to use it for overflow this weekend?

No matter, we got out, walked over to Carriage House to meet my sister. Took plenty of pictures of the pool construction. The whole sidewalk is blocked off as is the bus stop at Paddocks. Looks like lots of stuff dug up.

We don't have real keys yet for our room, just a blank overnight key, so I figure I'll just pop over to the Front Desk and see about that. The clerk Samantha tells me our room is ready and she just needs to check in the back if she's reading everything right. Just be a second.

30 minutes later, my new favorite manager Anthony comes back out. Seems there was another problem. :( The room they had blocked for us today has a "tub with rails" not the roll-in shower I need.:blech:

But Anthony has a solution for us. They found a 1bedroom HA room for us over in Congress Park and a studio just down the hall for my sis. So that means we'd both have to move. I didn't really fancy being spread across the resort so we agreed. Send sis and BIL back to room to pack and then wait for new keys to be cut for everyone.

Another half hour. :scratchch

Um, I think this brand of pixie dust I got has a factory default.

Anthony was super nice to us though. He credited us two nights stay, upgraded us from a studio to a 1bedroom and since we kept playing musical room change credited both rooms with a $100. (Keep in mind the only thing I asked for was a point credit if I had to stay in an inaccessible room last night. I feel a bit guilt getting all the other upgrade perks but once again SSR Front Desk prove they are top notch folks at customer relations. Be nice to them. Don't be a yelling jerk and just tell them what you need. They will bend over backwards to help you. I am so glad to be an owner here.)

GM and Cuz waited with the boys in the lobby (boys love the Disney cartoons) while I went back with DSis and BIL to help with luggage. Bell Services was slammed at the mo, so we hung out for a while and talked. Then the cart came for DSis and spirited her, BIL and their luggage away to the new room. We did a last minute check of all the cubby holes to be certain a kid didn't leave something behind. Then off I went to collect the boys.

Got all the way up to the Carriage House walkway when my cell phone rings. It's my cuz. Seems my nephew remembered just then he had left a DVD in the player back at the room. Of course he remembers this 10 minutes after we vacate it and DSis is halfway across the resort. In the middle of trying to get a key back into the room we get a hold of BIL. He checked the player and had the disc. Whew!

So GM, cuz and I walk the boys over to Congress Park to join their parents and drop off our stuff.

All told we did end up losing a park day because of all the room changes, packing and shuffling. And I got lost in SSR twice. Yes, me, the official tour guide. I should turn in my badge. These room numbers in Congress Park confuse me.

We do have a lovely view of West Side. And probably the biggest bonus is the in-room laundry. (Doing a load now, of ours and my sis's clothes.)

After settling (and confirming we had a roll-in shower), we hopped the bus to Animal Kingdom just after 4pm. Had enough time to get to the park and split up. GM and I needed to renew our annual passes and get a new Tables in Wonderland card, so we sent DSis along to the Lodge with my cousin. They toured the lobby and some of the savannah overlook. But by the time we got our passes at Guest Relations, (after going through baggage check with our our stuff on our backs because of the room change) and hopped the bus to the resort, we were late. About 20 minutes late.

Boma's still seated us. And DSis family loved it. I did too after a couple drinks. (I'm not a drinker but it was one of those days, and who can resist Pomegranate, peach Schnopps and Vodka?) Had a hard time convincing the boys to try all the exotic foods. Chicken nuggets, french fries and mac-n-cheese are there staple diets. There were bribes and tricks but we did get them to try the peanut rice, ginger butternut soup and some bobotie. And of course they had no trouble experimenting with the dessert table. DNep11 downed an entire plate of zebra domes.

And all throughout dinner the boys were asking me questions about Oswald the Rabbit. Shocked the heck out of me. Where did they hear about Oswald? From that Epic Mickey game I gave them for Christmas. Next I know the boys are telling me about the cow that is Clara's boyfriend and all those little birdies, and DNep wants to see Steamboat Willie cartoons. I tell him he can see it on the TV in the room.

Afterwards we chill out by the firepit in the lobby and go back out to the now cold savanna to see the giraffes.

Then it was back home via a bus to Downtown Disney and a walk around the lake. While there we met another family with a daughter in a wheelchair. They had the same issues with HA rooms. This time at Pop Century where yet again Special Needs screwed up and blocked a HA room for 2 instead of 4 and then gave them a room with a tub. Took management 4 hours to straighten it out for them and they ended up upgraded to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Seems this new computer system is wreaking all sorts of havoc with HA rooms. (And you wonder why I dread the idea of online booking? I'm telling you now. That will be a nightmare for us special needs folks.)

Anyway, we all ride the bus together to DTD solely due to the helpfulness of one bus driver who was determined to fit 4 wheelchair parties on his old lift bus. No one was left out in the cold today.

Get back to our rooms and we settle in. Call Bell Services and Aaron comes to deliver them. Now Aaron is one of many CMs we see and greet in SSR. We have those we know as friends and those who just know us from our frequent visits. Aaron is one such fella. He was the one who delivered our bags to Paddocks last night and recognized the name. He expected us to be in Grandstand where we always were. So we got to talking and and learned a bit more about each other.

Seems Aaron is from Haiti and just spent the last week there organizing a Christmas celebration for the children in his family's ministry. They held festivities for 2500 kids living in tents from the Port au Prince earthquakes last year, and they raised enough money to send 500 to school next year. These are the sorts of angels we have working for us spoiled guests. Next time you get all grumpy in Disney because your room is not ready at precisely 4pm, or your waiter is a little slow balancing 8 parties of guests, keep that in mind. Disney Cast Members are some of the best people on the planet and they do it for the love of the people (definitely not the money). A little patience, friendly manner and sense of humor go a long way to making this a magical place for everyone.

If you want to read up on Aaron's ministry, they have a website here: http://www.shepherdshouseministry.org/

Wish I had taken the time to talk more to Aaron before this trip. I would have loved to help support their Christmas surprise. Instead I think I'll be helping in the new year. He is a sweet guy and didn't volunteer that info all at once. He's just an angel trying to pass on hope and help to others who were in his situation. He was born in Haiti and still has family there, including 2 sisters who both lost their homes in the earthquakes. They have been looking after the kids ever since.

That's all my report for today. Tomorrow we do Magic Kingdom. Hopefully we'll bump into TomandRobin as we always seem to do. I hear they are over at BLT. We never make plans with them. We just sort of bump into each other each trip.

G'nite all! Look for my tweets tomorrow. I expect I'll be out till the wee hours and not posting until Fri morning.

Oh one side note, something's wonky with the internet down here. It is dog slow all of a sudden. My Virgin Mobile MiFi does work though and at decent speeds. That's how I can tweet and post in the park.

Sorry to hear about the handicapped room problems. Too bad DVC can't do it like Wyndham does - with Wyndham's online booking system, you know when you book online if you're booking a handicapped unit and that's what you'll get at check-in. DVC could take a lesson from Wyndham (especially if they start online booking soon).

It should be warming up over the next few days. Have fun.

The trouble is when the booking database is in error. There are different categories of rooms for accessibility. My biggest bugaboo is a roll-in shower (the ones at SSR are the best I've ever seen) and a bed about 20 inches high. Anything over 23" and I am too short and arthritic to climb in. Anything below 18" and I can't climb up out of it.

And often the corporate database does not have complete or accurate info. They show any room with accessibility as accessible. Now with Marriott I call the resorts directly and talk to them. They tend to have the architectural plans and if need be will get up and go examine the room in question.

Of course if you travel in non-peak times it's not usually a problem because the Front Desk has the rooms to fix screw ups like mine.

Good to hear that the SSR CMs come through again. Also glad to hear you finally got settled in one place. Love your reports. Hope the weather warms up for you all.

Chris

Hope the weather improves and totally agree the CMs at SSR are some of Disney's best. :thumbsup2

This is great to know. I will keep this in mind when we are booking rooms. She had three joint replacements in the last year and is moving a lot better than in the past, but bed heights are a very big issue. I'm so glad that you have told me there are variable heights of beds. We have noticed a drastic difference between different hotels and how the heights of beds and toilets make a huge difference!

Thank you very much!

Happy New Year, BroganMc and family...sure hope all your hassle factor is now behind you and that you get nothing but pure Disney magic from here forward...

I love your TRs, and hope you continue posting here...I've never figured out Twitter, and for some reason have also never been able to access your blogs...so I'm a fan who's restricted to reading about your adventures on the DIS...I do hope you'll find time/energy to post here as well as on the technological alternatives that us "submoronic-when-it-comes-to-the-computer" fans can't get to...

Your tales of SSR CMs and the Disney computer "enhancements" and all the trouble they cause make me as glad as you say you are that I'm an SSR person...most of our points are at SSR and if I go more than 2-3 trips w/out staying at SSR I start "pining" for it...yes, it's wonderful to be able to walk over to Epcot (we have some BCV points, too)...and my DS in particular loves the AKV...but for me it starts w/SSR and then I branch out from there...there's so much to love at SSR and the particularly wonderful CMs there top the list...in my experience (averaging 5 trips/year scattered over most of the DVC resorts), they're THE best at Disney...

I was going to say "us non special needs folks have run into the glitches that come from the new computer system, too"--and that's true--but of course the inconvenience and hassle factor for someone not needing a roll-in shower vs a tub or any of the other HA features pales in comparison...but if it's any comfort at all to you, the hassle factor is widespread...we had all sorts of issues (minor in fact, and certainly by comparison) on both our October and November trips...

Fortunately, the "new" computer system will be "old" soon enough...

Have a WONDERFUL time!!! Cyber-hugs to you, GP Mohawk, and your DSis & family!

Thurs, Dec 30

Good morning folks! Time for another report from the GM posse.

Woke up this morning with a rude awakening. Just conscious and my eyes not even open when I hear GM exclaim, "Where's my wallet? I can't find my wallet!"

Oh dear, not another crisis, I thought. Tear up the room looking in ever nook and cranny. Did he have it yesterday? He went to the bathoom at Boma's. Did it fall off his belt? His whole life is in that wallet and boy do I want to brain him now. Visions of calling Lost & Found and some ne'er-do-well charging up thousands of dollars on his credit card.

Then GM remembers he cut his finger and needed a band-aid last night. That was in his wallet, which led him to a cubby hole on the desk and there it is. Whew! Call off the Marines. The little men in my head stand down the explosion. Instead I tell GM, "Don't DO that to me again! Not 3 days in a row."

Course I'm awake now so inspired to go get some hot chocolate. Put on some clothes, call my sis and we lead a morning drink run.

Cuz is sound asleep in the living room and has the entire place shrouded in darkness. Drapes pulled, lights out. He's a nightcrawler so is usually dead to the world in the morning. And last night he was busy. After getting ready for bed, he surprised us with his decorating and homemaking talents. He pulled out the battery Christmas lights which he strung on the mirror in the kitchen and behind the glasses on the open shelf. We have Christmas Disney window clings decorating our fridge and front door. And before we left home he raided our kitchen and brought a selection of treats: a tin of the Christmas cookies we baked, croissants, cinnamon rolls, grapefruit and clementine oranges. Made a great midnight snack last night. (Sorry ladies. He has a girlfriend now. And she is one lucky gal.)

So this morning GM and I tiptoe out the door and meet DSis and Dnep9 on the pathway to Artist Palette. Dnep9 is my Doctor Who-loving nephew so of course our morning chatter was all about last weekends christmas special, the toys Santa brought him and the new series in Spring. GM and Dsis talked about last night and plans for the day, or just got quiet and listened to us.

Saw our friend Jim in AP. He was busy with a package pickup but stopped to give me a brief big hug. Saw Esther, Maria and Bonnie as well. Sadly cuz's lemon lady Gina has moved onto All Star now. Same with manager Jason Levy. Next trip when we have a car we have to go visit them.

We ended up eating breakfast, just the 4 of us, in the Turf Club lounge. Dsis took breakfast back to BIL and Dnep9 stayed with us to get breakfast for Cuz. In the gift shop, I pointed out the Hidden Mickey guidebook to Dnep9. Now he's all about the hunt for mickeys in Magic Kingdom.

I told everyone to be at the bus stop for 1pm. Knowing this group we should be there by 1;30pm. Dnep11 had ideas of going to the pool today, but I think he slept in. And it's just now getting warm. I have a resort day planned for Saturday so it should work out.

So far everyone is having a great time. We're all in good spirits and have lots of good humor. No one's been griping at each other or giving each other a hard time. (Well except for Dnep11 who had to text his uncle back home just to needle him over trouncing him in Fantasy Football this week.) GM still gets a bit cranky late in the day and grouses at me, but I'm used to it. I grouse back myself sometimes.

Off to shower. Hope you all are having a good day!

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll pass them along.

The family does know I'm posting. I try to keep up in the parks courtesy of my MiFi and iPod/iPad but it does get hard when you're going about. Then there are so many people to talk to and things to look at.

For now I am posting on Twitter and the boards. The internet is dog slow here so I haven't cracked open the wordPress blog much. I don't want to tempt fate with photos. That'll cost me an hour or two a day. This girl does need sleep.

I have heard of lots of problems with the new computer system Lilo. It was activated 2.5 weeks ago and the very first day everyone had problems. Aaron told us people weren't getting into their rooms until midnight and the luggage was backed up in Bell Services. He and his coworkers were working overtime that day.

Disney IT has serious issues. But the CMs are doing their best to cope. I know it is hard but a little patience and friendly demeanor go a long way here. I've had to keep myself calm through this but I just remind myself it is not the staff's fault the computer screwed up. Yelling at them just makes them feel awful when they are trying to help you. Fortunately my family has been very accommodating as well. I told everyone to pack their sense of humor and they did.

Always love your TRs and hope the weather is warming up for you by now. Sounds like a fun time is being had by all. Thanks for taking us along!

Happy New Year to you all!

I love SSR and my last trip in November (had a HA THV) was almost issue free--other than lack of hot water in the master bath (which I didn't call about the first three days and then took half a day to fix cause it turned out to be a big issue) and the coffee pot that didn't work one morning (they brought out a new machine within 10 minutes and then that one didn't work--turned out to be the GFI in the kitchen had tripped!) But those are issues that I didn't think were that big a deal. (I had warm--just not hot water in the shower.)

However, I have had issues in the past with some of the CM's. And yes, I did get upset--but after an hour or two of being told "no"--again it was an issue with an HA room for my Mom. The issue is that the studios with a roll-in shower are arranged so that the main closet is inaccessible by someone who has to use a mobility device (wheelchair, walker, etc.) How do you do it? Or do you just use the small utility closet where they keep the vacuum cleaner? I noticed that the GCV has solved the problem by flipping the bed and the sofa (which then makes the closet accessible). Anyway, I had rented two studios the first time we went to SSR (one accessible, one not) and was pretty stressed about it--because that meant that I was going to have to go to my Mom's room every morning and evening to get her clothes laid out for her, put away, etc. She's pretty capable as long as she can use her walker. And this may sound bad, but part of the reason I rented two studios was to have some "me" time. And in our case it took pretty much all day for them to work out a solution--and we ended up missing the Hoop-Dee-Doo we had prepaid--and they never replaced those tickets. And then I talked to Member Services, was assured there were studios with roll-in showers without this issue and the next year we had the same problem! This time they made accommodations much more quickly--I'm probably on some list now, however! LOL

So I'm not enamored with the CMs as much as you are--but I know they were very kind to you when your Dad broke his leg.

I think the main thing we all need to remember when dealing with the Front Desk CMs, is to ask this question: "did this person cause the problem you are upset about." If no, then how in the world can you get upset with them.

They don't design the layout of the rooms, they don't book the reservations, they don't have any control over the DDP, etc.

So when you become irate with them, is it over something they had control over, or are they simply the messenger.

They truly do want to try and fix problems but a little patience and understanding goes a long way with them.

Loving the story -- feel your pain. The hubby is in IT and has been through multiple upgrades on various systems but nothing as forward facing as Disney IT. Love that you are forgiving the "evil" of the IT system. Give the staff a cookie -- they probably are screaming on breaks. Continue the story as you can. Enjoying it.

Thurs Night...

Very tired so I'll make this report short. My group made it to the bus with perfect timing, which is 1:30pm as I predicted. I was dragging too so no complaints.

Seems the shower in my room had a clogged drain. Called maintenance before we left. Hope they came over to fix it while we where out.

Grandpa DID get his mohawk today. His favorite barbers Penny and Mickey are on vacation this week but Ivette took care of him. And this time DSis and her family and my cuz got to witness the transformation. GM is sporting his winter Ravens jacked and he has purple LED lights on his scooter this year. Add in the purple glitter mohawk and he makes a true fan. Got a lot of attention, including from some rival Patriot fans who just had to get a picture with him.

Had lunch at Crystal Palace which was actually an early dinner. Dnep11 is paying as adult now so his dad told him to eat like an adult. 5 platefuls later he declared no more buffets this trip. (Tomorrow and Sat we just had dinner and lunch scheduled.)

Saw Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore but Pooh kept missing us. Had pasta primavera, pork roast with mushrooms and mediterrean chicken, plus coconut flan, passion fruit tart and ice cream for dessert.

Then we spent the rest of the day riding rides, seeing fireworks (2x) and seeing parades (2x). Crowd was worst around 8-10pm. Rest of the time it was manageable.

Only Dsis, Cuz, GM and Dnep11 and I lasted past midnight. Dsis, cuz and I the latest. My power is down to fumes so it's time to recharge for tomorrow.

toocherie, I just don't use the closet in the studio, other than to store stuff I don't use. I setup up the luggage rack and live out of my suitcase. I have everything organized in packing cubes which I can put where I need. (I.e. Underwear in the bathroom)

I am able to walk in the room so could squeeze in that corner though I never sleep on that side of the bed. When my dad broke his leg we did rearrange the room to make it more accessible. We ditched the ottoman, shifted the sofa closer to the door and moved the bed away away from the closet door. Maintenance/housekeeping are very accommodating about that stuff. Just ask for a Front Desk manager when you check in and let them know you'll need help moving furniture to make it more accessible for your mom.

I travel quite a bit so am used to making adjustments. Sometimes it is the hotel that can do the change and sometimes I just have to adapt what I do. Nothing is as perfect as home, and even that isnt perfect.

I find if I go to the staff on site and tell them I have a problem to solve then wecall approach it creatively. It becomes an opportunity more than a challenge. I also try to avoid committing to anything the day I check-in. I never know what I'll have to deal with when I check in. Moving into BWV the first time alone was very interesting for that.

Oh I also carry a selection of tools to make the room more me friendly. Surge protectors with easy on off switches, outlet extenders, light dimmers, etc. I've also added my own bathroom shelves for soap and a $10 plastic cart of drawers from Walmart to store clothes and toiletries in for the bathroom.

The studios have some of the worst storage at Disney. I'm hoping the new tv upgrade next year will force them to give us a real armoire.

Don't ask why I'm still up. Pure sugar high I guess. Must sleep now.

Sammie: I somewhat agree with you. However, considering how long SSR has been open it is incredible to me that they acted like we were the first ones to raise the "closet issue" in the roll-in shower studios with them. I know that can't be the case. And I don't understand how they can label the room "accessible" when the major closet in the place isn't. They made it sound like this one particular HA studio was an anamoly. Suffice it to say that I didn't become upset until about two hours into the process--their only solution for the studio was to disconnect the bed from the wall and move it--personally, I don't find the prospect of being in a "deluxe" room with holes in the wall and a gerry-rigged arrangement to be acceptable. But that's me. I certainly don't see how an ADA expert would have found it acceptable either. I've worked with them in my business and know how picky they can be. So I would really like to know who made that call.

Brogan: I understand that you have accepted the limitations of the room and that's fine. It's just not something (having stayed at other hotels and timeshares) that I would have expected from Disney. But then, Disney doesn't have self-opening/closing doors either for HA rooms which I don't understand. (Those doors are heavy!)

In any event, obviously the experience didn't sour me on SSR because I've been back--both with and without my Mom--and plan two trips this year. I have to say that I've had very few negative experiences when I don't have a HA room reserved.

Ok--end of derail of Brogan's thread. Back to the fun! Can't wait to see pics of Grandpa's new "do"! How is the weather--is it still cold? John from Owner's Locker posted that he was back in shorts today so hopefully it's warming up for you guys!

Oh I agree there are designs flaws, goodness look at BLT. But the front desk CM had no more say in the design than we did, so I think we have to remember that.

Blast Jim Lewis, he signs off on all building designs.

It's not that I have done something unusual in accepting the flaws of the furniture layout, I just find that the least of my hurdles when traveling. I stay at Marriott resorts three times a year as well and they have many more hurdles for me to traverse. The biggest is the design of their roll-in showers. They all use those pre-fab units that are slippery as ice and include a downhill slope of 1 foot. So water flows out of the shower into the middle of the bathroom floor and I have to put down big bath towels to soak up the water just so I can try to prevent slipping and falling on my way out of the shower. SSR's shower design is MUCH better. Even with the drain clog this week water never crossed the little threshold.

Marriott's also tend to have those extra plush mattresses now and use standard height bed frames making the beds 26" high. I just can't climb into those things and when I try it is like falling into a marshmellow. I can't climb out.

I haven't ever encountered a hotel room that was up to the snuff of a timeshare either. Those pricey hotels are the worst, IMHO. Once stayed in one with marble bathroom floors. Who does that?! In an accessible room where trip hazards are automatic trips to the hospital.

The funniest comparison I had on property was BWV. Their idea of a closet for the studio was a tiny armoire stuffed with vacuum cleaner and other housekeeping supplies. I put my suitcase on the sofa and left that thing alone.

Happy New Year's Everybody!

I'll try to make this quick so I can get some sleep before the sun comes up.

Today was our 2nd park day and 2nd all day park affair. Dsis checked her hopper passes and learned she had just 2 days left so it all worked out. We started with lunch at 50's Primetime Diner (one of my favs) and along the way showed Dsis where our preferred fireworks spot was.

The meal was great as always (I adore the fried chicken) but BIL didn't care for the sugar-free cheesecake.

Then it was off to One Man's Dream and Toy Story Mania. Dnephews have developed a fond interest in Oswald the Lucky Rabbit since playing Epic Mickey so we had to go search for him in Walt's museum. I'd never believe an 9 and 11 yr old would want to spend time in a museum. Highlight for them was getting to see old cartoon clips. For me it was a nice little nap during the movie and just after my big meal.

Weather was warm today. Almost got hot there for a bit in the afternoon. Alas as soon as the sun goes down it gets chilly again.

Then we went on TSM. Crowded as usual but not too bad. And we occupied ourselves looking for hidden mickeys. (Found some in 50's Primetime.) Dsis opted out and left us to go on the Backlot Tour. I battled Dnep 9 and won by a handy lead. However Dep11 took on his dad and lost by a mere 1000 points = 1 shot. Had fun teasing him about that.

We ended up finished before Dsis which caused a bit of a momentary panic for GM. He expected to find her waiting for us, but I was exceptionally zen about it. I needed a bathroom break anyway so tried to calm the troops via text message in the bathroom. That was interesting. Dsis was back with us within minutes of my return as well.

Then we opted to hop the ferry for EPCOT. I thought I'd give the early bird fireworks a try this year. I passed them over last year because they took down the Lights of Winter.

Got there just after 6 and found all the handicapped places full with sign-ups. Went to my super secret spot in Future World and found several dozen other people beat me to it. They had fences along the water because people spread out along the lawn. I remember 2 years ago I got stuck with an hour long bathroom line and had to suffer through fireworks in Germany. I'm officially swearing off EPCOT for New Year's Eve as of this trip. The kicker is at the end of that party of my story.

Pulled out the snack bag and fed everyone while we waited. Tried to top up Dsis cell phone so she could text again but nothing was connecting over WiFi tonight. The whole network was jammed.

About 8:30pm we opted to split up. The boys wanted to do a few rides in Future World (Nemo and Spaceship Earth). And we wanted to camp out that spot in the Studios.

For Dsis' group the trek to rides was smooth. Wait times weren't horrible as everyone focused on fireworks. For us though, the trek back to the International Gateway was horrendous. CMs in Future World directed everyone to the center aisle but failed to give direction just before Canada by the McDonald's stand. We found ourselves caught in utter gridlock. It was so bad no one could move and the crowd kept getting thicker and thicker. One poor lady got pushed into me but fortunately no harm done. I was able to protect my joystick from her and maintain control of my chair. Cuz held onto the back of me and started feeling a bit of panic. So I started chatting up the crowd. Make a joke and hopefully everyone stayed calm until the CMs could sort it out.

And eventually we saw a CM waving a red baton. But I'm swearing off the the park next year. I'm guessing since NYE is falling on a weekend that is adding to the local traffic. And it is just not comfortable being that close to people, even if they are in good Disney spirits.

When we finally exited the park, I send Cuz and GM along on the ferry and opted to walk it. It was another 1.5 miles but I needed the wide open space and fresh air after that maul. Besides the ferries were loaded and we needed to wait for another.

Met a couple of off duty CMs on the walkway by the Studios. A very nice lady named Heather who works as a Greeter outside the Studios. I saw her riding around the entrance earlier in the day and told her I had thought of challenging her to a race but had my family with me. So because she was a guest herself she took on the challenge. The two of us drag racing along the river at a breakneck speed of 5mph. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which one of us one.

Got the the park ahead of GM & Cuz by 25 minutes so went inside to stake out our spot. A couple fellas had my same idea and beat me to it. So I shifted to the side and waited, texting madly because there was a drink bar just across the path and I couldn't get to it.

Eventually we reassembled around 10pm. Cuz an I went for drinks then I took a ride around the park. Back to Pixar Lane for the bathroom and then around the Sorcerer's Hat to enjoy the live band and dance crowd. It was jammed along Mickey Avenue and Sunset Blvd, but at least this park had a more manageable crowd.

We ended up watching the fireworks with a nice family from the Eastern Shore. Farmer Chip, his wife and their 4 little kids. BIL opted to leave EPCOT and go back to SSR with the boys. Dsis made her way through the crowd, on a ferry and back to us.

I plugged in my wheelchair charger (courtesy of an outlet in a lamp post), we shared champagne and cocktails and rang in the new year in style.

Then it was time for a few late night rides. Another ride on TSM (my sis hadn't played it yet), sent Cuz and Dsis on Tower of Terror and the rest of the night we hung out in Osborne Lights. Yet again the crowd there was sparse. Mostly cast members and a few families taking pictures.

Stayed until they shut it all down. Now we're back, kinda cold (it did get chilld tonight) and tuckered out.

Dnephews have ideas of getting up early to play golf tomorrow. GM was gonna go too but he just told me he needs to rest. All I'm thinking of doing is sleeping then getting up tomorrow to soak in the hot tub. Then it's off to Downtown Disney for dinner at Raglan Road, a little shopping and to see Tron: The Legacy. It's also Dsis' last night in town.

All in all it has been a great trip. I wish I could make it a regular invite for my sibs.

So goodnight or good morning everyone. Happy 2011!

Saturday Morning Report

The day after is our first real day to rest. Got up late. Just made the breakfast line at AP. Brought it back to the room and woke up cuz.

It's getting warmer today but there's a cool breeze in the air. My plan is just to go soak in the hot tub for a while. Hopefully it isn't too cold getting out.

Sundee is on duty at 2pm, so I'll go then to look her up.

I'm told the boys got up late too and went to the pool just as we returned with breakfast. Invited Dsis's over to join us for coffee but that was an hour ago. I think she just rolled over and slept more.

The boys had grand plans for today. They want to do mini golf, pool, DisneyQuest and go to DTD to see Tron. We keep telling them they can't do everything.

Now I'm sitting here at the kitchen table typing away on my iPad and contemplating how to spring enough points for a 1bed in Spring. We had been doing studios to stay longer and book more rooms for family, but being in one again I find I miss all the extra space. We could also do with more BLT points.

Oh well, the usual Disneyitis strikes again.

Hope you all are having a relaxing New Years Day!

Thanks for sharing the pixie dust! Happy New Year to you and GM!!
