My family is pondering a 2010 Christmas trip to WDW. Anyone have any experience or want to venture a guess if we would need to book a grand villa right at 11 months or will there be some available at the 7 month mark?

Also, would a grand villa be large enough for 5 adults and 6 kids (age 12, 11, 5, 4, 3, 2)?

Yes, and Depends

Christmas is one of the most popular DVC times. You cannot count on having any availablilty at the 7 month mark.

The GV depends on how the other would care about being split up / sharing rooms. You have a master that sleeps 2 in a King. (2) additional bedrooms that have 2 queens and the living room has a pull-out sofa to sleep 2. I'm not really sure if AKV or BLT also have a pull-out chair?
Also, the 2yo could sleep in the pack-n-play. The adults of 3 households with their children would seem to work in a 3 bedroom GV. The adults of 4+ households and children would only work if they were really close and adults do not mind sharing rooms...

It is cheaper, point wise and more flexible to have a seperate 2BR and a studio than a GV, but you would not have as large a table to sit around...

My family is planning a Christmas 2011 trip. Using 2010 points as a guide, I wanted to get a GV at OKW for 7 nights. A lot of people told me it would be nearly impossible to get it at the 7 month mark. I then looked at a GV at my home resort, AKV, and realized I would only be able to get 5 nights with the points I had available to me. However, just as the PP suggested, I looked at a 2BR and a studio and saw that I could get both for 9 nights.

Yeah, it would be nice to have everyone in the same place but getting extra nights (or saving points) is a good trade off.
