Got back a few weeks ago from OKW (I'm the guy with the broken knee) and it was very nice. I love the view from bldg 16 and the 2br are great.

Anyway when we bought DVC many moons ago (1994) I think you had to get something like 210 points and we got 220. We did a upgrade for another 50 two years later (270 total). My whole reason was to get a 2br for 6-8 nights during any part of the year. We still can accomplish this with our 270 except during Christmas/New Years now. Since we really don't go then except every 4th or 5th year it is not really a problem.

Here's the question... OKW's grand villa's are so cheap most the the year we could just cut a day or two out and get the big place. Example: during Sept 2004 we could get our 2BR for 8 nights or a GV for 6 nights and be within our 270 points. We have 3 kids (18,7,5) and we have always put the 5YO on the pull out sofa but I think he may enjoy a room to himself and Buzz. We really do not care about trying to save points (it's a vacation, dummy) and since it GV would still give us 6 nights that is a nice length. But would you rather have the 2 extra nights in a 2br.

We only go the a parks for 2 or 3 days anyway and spend the rest going to the pool, DD, or just taking it easy.

Thoughts????

I expect you'll get mixed responses here...

In the past, many people have responded to this question in saying, they'd rather have the extra time at Disney.

I see both sides - but, what I "will" say, is - you've GOT to try the Grand Villas at least once. They are FANTASTIC! Since you're a member, you know you'll be back - so why don't you give them a try, this time?

Enjoy - either way!! ºoº

The GV's are truly beautiful and definitely an experience you should not miss. We have reserved them on two occasions when we had a lot of family visiting and they were a definite hit! :p

The only issues that come to mind for me are: 1. since they are on two levels, accessibility has become a challenge for me because I'm facing joint replacement surgery in the near future. However, that makes it easy to get dibs on the master suite (unless older relatives are visiting!) 2. Between the cathedral ceilings and hardwood floors, noise travels a lot farther. This is a minor thing for me, but can inpinge on folks who like to sleep in while the rest of their crew goes off to the theme parks. I think the noise level in the room above the kitchen is particularly high.

But the Grand Villas are very lovely and a wonderful treat for a vacation. This takes nothing away from the two-bedroom units, though....they are terrific too but in a slightly less "grand" way. The physical set-up in the 2-bedroom is a huge plus for me right now and I recommend them highly too. You really can't miss either way! :p

I don't own at OKW but I can tell you that I would opt for the 6 nights in a GV just to try it. You've still got plenty of time to stay in the 2BR in the future for longer periods. I say go for it! Especially since you have the 11 month advantage. Good luck, whatever you decide.
