While staying at SSR we visited a grand villa. Now we are very interested in renting one. We'd like to stay at a different resort and was hoping at OKW. Will it be impossible to do in the beginning to mid June at the 7 month window?

How different is the grand villa in OKW verses SSR.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Deb

I have never stayed at SSR, but the GV at OKW is fantastic. Plenty of room and space to put stuff away. You really feel at home while on vacation

OKW is about 260 square feet larger or the size of very small hotel room.

I have visited the SSR model GV, and it is really beautiful. I have stayed in OKW GV's and they are wonderful. As I recall the size of SSR GV, it is much smaller than OKW GV and arranged somewhat differently in the common areas. To get one at OKW at 7 months, you would need to call day by day, and probably have a backup plan - say booking at your home resort at the 11 month period, and then waitlisting the days that are not available at 7 months at OKW. Good luck!

OKW GV's are appx 2400 square feet, if memory serves me....much larger than your standard hotel room.

I'd say we spent appx 90% of our time in OKW GV's....since 1992.

Jacqui and I will be staying in a GV at SSR in January...will let you all know how it compares to OKW. Rich had made these plans for SSR before he died -he knew how much Jacqui loved horses so he thought she would enjoy it :)
We'll also have a little service for him with his family, who will be coming in from NY-NJ area.

I believe Pa@okw95 was saying the DIFFERENCE between the two was 260 square feet, not that the villa was 260 square feet. :earseek:

Good to hear from you Lisa. I hope you and Jacqui's Jan trip and service is a special time for all.

We have stayed in a GV at OKW during the first week of June on 2 occasions in the last 4 or 5 years...our home resort is OKW but my mom was using her points on both the GV stays and her home is Vero....so they had to have been booked at the 7 month window (or maybe later...she isn't really good about planning too far ahead).

FYI...all of the GV's at OKW except the handicapped accessible ones have a second floor entrance (they are on the second and third floors of the building). The HC GV's do not have the jacuzzi tub and are held for those requiring them. Since my mother really just can't do the stairs any more we really can't do the GV's at OKW anymore...are looking forward to trying out SSR for next summer's family trip.

Don't know if the second floor entrance is an issue for anyone but us, but in case stairs are a problem the OKW GV's probably aren't your best bet.

That's not quite true anymore. Building 62 has elevators.

On our last trip to OKW (about a year ago) we brought my 80yr old mother, who cannot maneuver stairs. We used the elevators without any problems to access our GV. You may want to mention that you have a handicapped guest next time you make reservations.

I would NOT say "handicapped guest", since that might get you a handicapped room, and you would NOT like that! Instead say elevator acessible for medical reasons.

I have reservations at BCV, July 17-22, for a 2BR and a Studio. I'd love to trade for a Grand Villa at OKW. Is this possible, how would it be done??

Our 7-month window opened just this week, and I was thrilled to book an OKW Grand Villa. This is my first stay in anything other than a studio and I'm VERY excited! :cool1: My DS, DIL and their 4 kids are coming. They don't know yet they're staying on-site. I'm telling them tomorrow (Christmas present). They know they're going, but they assume they're staying at the Holiday Inn Family Suites where they stayed last time (which, by the way, they loved). We had reservations for a 2 BR and a studio at our home resort, BCV, so one of the couples (us or my son and wife) were gonna end up in the studio and one of the couples would have gotten the king bed and jacuzzi. Now I really wanted that king bed and jacuzzi, but I wasn't too sure that I wanted to be the ones with the children in our rooms! So getting the GV solved that whole issue!.

My son and family don't know anything about OKW or Grand Villas or anything about DVC, so I'm gonna have fun educating them!!!
