GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

I’m glad it’s better where you live, but it’s clear that parts of Texas are overwhelmed. I am concerned that it may overwhelm your area too. In my state a few months ago many of the people in the collar counties of Milwaukee were pretty smug that MKE had a lot of cases. Now they are on the uptick.

Just got off the phone with my daughter in Houston. She said (and she works at the Medical Center) that the Houston hospitals are doing better now, but it's not great. There are serious problems in areas near the Mexico/USA border, and hospitals down there have to turn away patients.

There's a lot I can respond to but I was specifically talking about your comment regarding the PPP, the additional $600 and the stimulus payment as a result of your comment of it supposed to be a bridge between april and july. Most of your response to my comment feels like you're letting off some steam and venting for which I don't blame you for that :flower3: vent away we all need it right now from time to time and for sure during this whole mess.

I appreciate your response. And yes, I've been venting since right around the beginning of March. I don't expect I'll be venting less anytime soon. But we agree on the fact that this is indeed a mess. And it's going to get messier before it's all over.

Its still happening so it's a bad thing. I love how everyone just puts their head in the sand and try to downplay it. More should be done to help with the spread. For some reason NOBODY WANTS TO DO IT. Make masks mandatory, fine any that don't follow social distancing. I'm sure a $900 fine will make people listen. Hoping for it to bet better doesn't work.
We ARE wearing masks in my portion of Texas. No head in the sand. We are trying to keep our numbers down.

Ok, lucky you?
Lots of us care for our neighbors. Some of it is the golden rule, and the rest is just humanity.
No one is saying that. Good God what is wrong with you people? All I’m saying is that it’s not all of Texas. Of course I care about people in Texas and outside of Texas. But there are some positive notes. I know that doesn’t sell very well but there are some cities that are trying to keep numbers down.

I will say it again. The reason I'm not a mask fan....too much complacency. Too many believe it stops the spread PERIOD even if they are around their necks and not covering their nose. BTW covering the nose is EXTREMELY important. Many don't bother with social distancing, limiting close contact or aren't staying home if they feel unwell. Thought process.."I'm wearing a mask so I'm good!" Not sure how great a job they're doing with washing their hands before they scratch the face or nose either. There's been such a big deal made over masks on both sides. Some believe they may help some. I wear them when required but do NOT rely on them for protection. And yes...many DO wear them because they think they stop the transmission of the virus.

In countries where correct mask wearing is common, it does stop transmission of the virus.

I swear to God people are rooting for states to fail. Seriously.
Unfortunately the state of the Union has become dominated by politics that divide more than unite -- on both sides of the aisle.

The well has been so poisoned that even in a pandemic -- clear, simple medical advice is politicized.

The prior comments appeared to be more of this extremists on one side, and thinking of the extremists on the other.

I do believe the majority of us remain in the middle and hope that we can all come together as a nation, set aside our politics, and overcome this disease.

I understand your concern on this. But that complacency is much smaller than the benefit of even a small cloth barrier would bring in reduction of incidences of transmission.

Like saying not fully behind a speed limit because people think going 65mph will induce folk thinking driving 65mph in heavy rain is okay, so let's not set a limit cause people will stop thinking that heavy rain should reduce speeds.

If dealing with complacency becomes the next hurdle, I would gladly welcome that.

I don't put more stock in masks than other precautions. They are a tool but not the magic bullet.

I want the US to succeed. My concern has been the many that downplay the seriousness of Covid and rely on hope and going to the gym to make things better. N.Y. may have messed up at the beginning in regards to senior homes but how they have handled to reopening of their economy should have been followed by all States. Instead many have their head in the sand, Florida being one of them, and refuse to do anything. Masks should be mandatory everywhere and social distancing be enforced. The economy can work with it in place.

Completely...mask wearing alone? They've eradicated it? 😳
No completely gone but numbers are very low with mask wearing and social distancing in place. Where I live masks are mandatory and social distancing is enforced by fining people. Our numbers the last while have under 200 daily with 0.9% positive. With numbers that low we have been able to do some contact tracing.

Aren't y'all still working from home and pretty much locked down?

Not at all. Everything is back to open here except movie theaters, casinos and theme parks. We haven't been locked down for a few months. The only real thing that just opened was indoor dining. Up til now it's only been outdoors.

Some do NOT believe in federal mandates for numerous reasons...not just regarding masks.

Some continue to divide this nation for their own gain...no matter what the cost. It's sad and frightening.

So most things are still closed?
