GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

Parents are sick of home schooling. They’re willing to risk catching COVID to send their kids back to school. I guess home schooling isn’t what everyone thought.
As a parent of teachers, maybe the only bright spot is parents will realize how hard teaching actually is. That said, I don't care if they're sick of it. I don't want my kids to have to walk into a petrie dish because parents need baby sitters. Two of my kids are actively looking for other jobs. They're great at what they do, but they aren't going to risk dying to do it.

13,387 new cases, another dip in percent positive to 12.94%. They reported 116,311 cases.

But the worst death day yet (second time this week they broke their death record) with 156 deaths. 491 new hospitalizations.

I'm sure this will be welcomed as wonderful news even though the pop is more than double what it needs to be to meet any kind of acceptable criteria. They must've done more testing for it to drop, and to have well over 10% when you're testing heavily is terrible. Deaths are going to continue to climb.

That’s how exponential spread works. Each iteration is far worse than the previous.

And now I read that GA no longer has a mask requirement. What could possibly go wrong with them bordering FL.

I feel like since January/February we’ve been watching terrible decisions get made, sarcastically wondering what could possibly go wrong, and then of course it all went wrong.

So frustrating 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well the governor has rescinded local mandates. I don’t think that can stand if they want to push it.

Yep. I’m super frustrated by it.

Closing the bars and requiring masks in AZ seems to have flatten the seven day moving average. I think we can’t have bars open while this is going on. They’re going to fail. It sucks for them. But the alternative is worse right now.

Businesses can still require them. I think, they have learned that if they want to stay open, requiring masks is the way to go.

I would be considering the same if I was a teacher. I’m wondering how we’re actually discussing opening schools as refrigerator trucks for the overflow of dead bodies are pulling into Texas.

I’m waiting for the news article to come out where a teacher gets in trouble for assigning home work, where kids figure out how many cases per day are required to fill up one of those trucks

I'm saying we did not have to come up with curriculum or lesson plans. It was provided by school.
Exactly. Parents had to do little more than they did when physical school was in attendance here. Their issue wasn’t that distance learning was not sufficient, it’s that those with younger kids lost their childcare. I’m sorry, but schools aren’t, or at least shouldn’t be, babysitters.

We also had alternatives for those kids who did not have access to technology and they set up pick up breakfast and lunches with teachers volunteering to man it. It is true the less advantaged had a harder time, but they always do.
Funding from the government to assist in that would alleviate that problem.

CA health directors are saying it’s going to be 3-4 weeks before we see if our current rollbacks have been enough. It’s going to be a very long month.
