Of course he doesn’t. He’s anti-mask, doesn’t believe they work and he advocated for super spread parties to “ get it over with”. He’s an anti-vaxxer and hasn’t been testing, he doesn’t believe in testing without symptoms, so only tested once he developed symptoms. He could’ve been spreading for a long time. You’d have to live here to fully understand just how awful he is. There’s a pic of him sitting next to Herman Cain at the rally who tested positive a week or so ago.

Sure, he may have gotten it somewhere else, but our spike matches the rally perfectly in timing.

I hear so much pissing and moaning about masks. Every time the governor posts an update the comments are ridiculous. However I have noticed it’s the same people who are just trying to stir up trouble. I went to Kroger today and I saw a total of 4 people without a mask. One group was 2 adults and a preteen. The kid had in a mask and the adults did not. I truly felt like we were all in it together which is how it should be. Then I went into a gas station and they were telling people they had to put on a mask. I don’t know how long that will last but if people will just suck it up we can keep the numbers down.

I feel like in tourist areas they are less likely to expect masks because they want the tourist dollars. If Disney sticks by their guns they should be able to stay open. Not sure about other businesses.

I took a day trip to Door County yesterday, at an hour and a half away, the furthest (farthest?) I've been away from home since Feb. Every single store that was open had a 'Masks required' sign and some type of hand sanitizer either right before or right after you entered. I was so happy to see those signs!

I agree, the economy will keep faltering as long as states continue to do the open/close do-see-do. I believe the virus needs to move through the population, it can't be "controlled" Even the CDC and WHO are mentioning that the economic effects of the shut downs are going to be catastrophic. The idea behind the shut downs was to avoid spikes, not prevent viral spread.

This is an idea that should make even the most militant of anti vaxxers and measles partiers cringe. We have just over 3.5 million cases now. About 1.75 million or so of those cases have resolved one way or the other. Death or recovery, and by recovery I mean enough of one not to be in the hospital or in care. We have had over 140,000 deaths. For eZ and lazy rough calculation purposes, let's assume our population is 300 million (It's more) and let's assume 3 million cases. Let's further assume generously that only 50% get it and that that gives us herd immunity (also very generously) That's roughly 7 million deaths. Now let's further assume the case fatality rate drops to what is predicted. That's three assumptions in the direction of Rosy scenario of lower deaths. Well then that's still 2.5 million deaths give or take 3/4 million rosy scenario if we just cut it loose. And that's not counting the hospitalizations and people that recovered but were left with permanent damage and the like. I won't give you the scary scenario because I believe people would self shut down before it came to that. And for some herd immunity that may not even exist and if it does may only last for months as the virus may come back year after year in altered form. Again this is a rough estimate. But before we even begin to do genuine statistics, it's enough to know that failure like that is simply not an option and shouldn't be. The economic effects of the shut down is absolutely nothing compared to the economic effect of letting this thing run unchecked. As for what the idea of the shut down was, how do you avoid spikes? By preventing spread. So to say the idea is not to prevent spread when in fact a spike results from failure to prevent spread is a logical contradiction.

Pics of him are going around locally of him shopping at WalMart Sunday, maskless. There’s a local restaurant he ate at the other night. They posted on their FB page with a pic of him posing with the owners, arms around each other- no mask. They’ve had to shut down now for 14 days so all the employees won’t get paid and all of them and their families have to quarantine.


Sorry for the local slant, but this is indicative of just how 1 person can affect dozens of other people.

And without contact tracing, there is really no way to know whether the tourists brought it with them, caught it while there and spread it to more and more locals, or whether the locals all spread it among themselves or whether the locals gave it to the tourists or just how it actually spread.

What is an influencer, especially a CA SM influencer?

People who make a living or substantial income basically selling things / sort of being a "living ad" on social media (SM).

Brands large and small hire or pay them to advertise, pretty much. Some are very overt, some are much more subtle. Many of them make $5000+ an ad (and many far, far, far more than that) and many do multiple ads a week.

Some specialize in certain topics, but many are young-ish, often formerly the "mommy blogger" type genre, who often do a wide variety of things ad wise. They have very large followings on social media and so are a cheaper way for brands to reach "normal people" than doing print/TV/etc. traditional ads, and they're not as easy to "skip" as other forms of ads are, so they're quite effective for brands.

100% yes to this. I mean, at some point I'm sure that we'll have a huge committee of scientists and experts who can look back on this whole mess and determine exactly how the virus spread like wildfire around our nation. But we're clearly awful at pandemics. The worst, by far, in the developed world. So who cares if the chicken or the egg came first....we're up to our ears in chickens and eggs at this point.

I was listening to the Wall Street Journal podcast from yesterday. The host interviews the Superintendent for LA schools, the second largest in the nation. He talks about the decision to keep kids home with on-line learning for the fall. He discusses the way other countries have opened schools is that they are testing children and teachers frequently. And that for 15 billion dollars, the United States could send all children back and test each child and teacher once a week so we could safely open schools. Then I wondered what color the sky was in his world. That he could think that could possibly happen here in the next 4-6 weeks. We can't even adequately test the *sick* people, let alone every kid and teacher in ever school in the country....once a week.
