GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

I agree, the bars had a major impact on the numbers. But I still believe the virus spread is going to happen, unless we remain at Phase I. But Phase I increases feelings of frustration and helplessness, and further delays our economic recovery.
So the next act of inhumanity may cause another round of protests. I didn't see social distancing in BLM protests, did you? I also didn't see anyone stepping up to enforce masks or social distancing.

I actually did see social distancing and full mask compliance at the BLM protests in my city that spanned 5 days.

And yes, the point I was trying to make is that even with JUST restaurants open at 50% capacity, as NYC just did, the dam is opened and the cases will start to climb again. Unless NYC plans to remain essentially closed until a vaccine is available, it is inevitable that the case counts will go back up.

I'm a little surprised more states arent putting quarantines in place for visitors of hotspots - especially visitors to FL when the numbers of visitors jumps dramatically in a week or two.

Well, I think WDW delayed opening to watch what Universal and SeaWorld outcomes would be... they are already open, and while I don't believe there has been no spreading of the virus at these places, there currently isn't a major outbreak linked to them. (Not that one couldn't be happening now.) But point being, there is no major public outcry for the other parks at the moment.

The Disney workers group is probably more organized than the other parks and can be more vocal about re-opening.. WDW is also trying to re-open in the middle of the spikes.. will be interesting to watch

Florida has seen a huge spike in cases this month.

I am not the OP, but here is a link to the Florida Hospitals (not sure if it the same site they used!)

Thank you. That is the exact site I obtained the numbers for. I posted the same link here a number of pages ago on this thread.
It is data put out by the state itself.

I'm glad you saw masks and social distancing in your area, but there were a lot of places across the country where this wasn't the case.

I agree, that cases are going to surge everywhere, once society re-opens. Problem is the public is expecting this virus to end, and their lives to resume. But this may not happen for another year, so it's time to accept the new norm.

This was bound to happen. The younger florideans caught it by being reckless then went to see grandma and then she caught it.
The real damage is all the younger people are the supermarket cashiers, restaurant cooks, servers, hostesses, grocery store baggers, hair stylists, doctors'/dentist office staffs, hospital workers...all interacting with thousands of elders every day - beyond their own grandparents and family. That's what's truly scary.

I’m guessing the virus will be with us longer than a year. Time will tell if it’s still as lethal or weakens. We are already seeing fewer deaths with increased infections.

But kids are more likely to see their family during Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I don’t think we’ve seen how bad this can spread between the young and old yet. We might see some for 4th of July, but it isn’t as big of a holiday.

Where are the hotspots in the state?
We don't have any here. I'm in Ontario Canada. The reason I said I hope those places follow is cause of how we have done things here. Our cases for my province has been under 200 for the past few weeks.

All retail is open here as well as malls. All have limited capacity. Restaurants are only patios. No indoor seating. We just opened the beaches but they have by-law officers out to enforce social distancing. We have been fining people $880 for not complying. No theme parks have an opening date yet.

Why can't that work?

Sorry thought you were asking about where I live.

In AZ: Greater Metro Phoenix. West valley has the biggest jump in posotives.

The zip code dashboard heat map really sucks. It’s hard to easily see the hot spots. We’re not testing enough. We still have positivity rates in the double digits. We need to test enough to bring this down to five percent. If increased testing doesn’t do that, then we need to add more restrictions. It will take two weeks before we see the impact of the latest changes.

IMO, the death rate is more about the treatment, than the virulence. Here in AZ, there is a team of people at one hospital assigned to re-positioning patients. They've found that lying on your stomach improves outcomes.
I hope the your'e right and the virus learns to avoid killing hosts. That would be great. This virus is so bizarre!
The vaccines are the only thing that can might slow/ stop this, but I doubt anything will be ready to go this year.

Partial reason the deaths haven't increased is that they have discovered better treatment options. They have learned what makes for a better outcome.

Just don't forget that the health of these people that had severe cases and didn't die don't even know what they are in for yet.
