GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

And yet they failed to address if and what underlying issues the younger people have. Younger with underlying have always been included in the higher risk, and obsesity is a huge risk and huge issue with the younger crowd. Plus many people don't realize they have things like high blood pressure and such which is why getting yearly check ups is so important. But many in their 20's don't , heck many in all ages don't.
Agree. One can speculate. I know Texans are known to have a larger girth ( in the top ten for states ) . Obesity is the main condition in younger patients. Obesity also triggers other issues mainly more apt for inflammation. And more studies are showing this a variable. There have been some healthy younger patients but those are rare. .

I agree, the bars had a major impact on the numbers. But I still believe the virus spread is going to happen, unless we remain at Phase I. But Phase I increases feelings of frustration and helplessness, and further delays our economic recovery.
So the next act of inhumanity may cause another round of protests. I didn't see social distancing in BLM protests, did you? I also didn't see anyone stepping up to enforce masks or social distancing.

At least protests usually happen outdoors.
There are political rallies being held indoors with no social distancing and masks.

I feel like the scientific community is saying things to appease society, but their hypothesis are not based in the reality of this particular virus. Contract tracing is one example The test results can take several days, so by this time how many asymptomatic have infected others? PCR testing results need to be available within hours, not days. Then contract tracing might help.

Real life isn’t CSI, unfortunately. Things don’t just happen after a commercial break. Processes take time, unless you want unreliable results, which is worse than not knowing.

There's a reason spectators at sporting events and music concerts have been banned during this whole crisis.

NBA a level athlete Rudy Gobert was diagnosed with COIVD in March and his sense of smell still hasn't returned fully. He can only smell things right in front of his nose.

Wow:

Major issue with @WaltDisneyWorld COVID-19 pre-shift testings and sick pay. If a CM tests above temp & stays home - no pay unless later positive COVID-19 Test. If they go into work and get to a preshift temp check they go home paid. Scenario confirmed by union reps. (link)

It would seem better for a tester to just drive around to a sick CM's house and test temps there.

Many young people hospitalized have no underlying issues whatsoever.

and many don't know they actually have one because many of them never go for check ups. Also obesity for many is still not viewed as a health concern. And some people are considered obese but look only a little overweight.

Curious any news on the planned WDW opening?? We finally cancelled our August trip.

saw on CNBC yesterday the CEO of Houston’s largest hospital group. He has some great insight on the hospitalizations currently going on and how there has been a shift tomorrow younger patients. What I clearly remember is the change in demographics. googled and actually found an article on his interview yesterday- some interesting information in there.

I think WDW opening is a very bad idea, both financially and from public perception of it.

They have to though if they can. I think the projections were that if Disney remains closed till August that the WDW Corp will go bankrupt. And who wants that.

Contract tracing is obviously easier in some parts of the country than others. If you're living in a Bronx apartment building, taking the train to work in Brooklyn, eating at a lunch cart, etc., you're going to be interacting with hundreds or thousands of people a day.
The question is: where is this going to be easier? I don't think this is a model that can be used in our country, unless we are all willing to carry tracking devices, like in China where everyone is required to have a smart phone.

It's easier in the suburbs probably, where you're not taking public transportation.

what they should have done from the beginning is quarantine hot spots like NYC. No exit no entry.
Instead it's just one big free for all where people can spread the virus across the country.

An update on Florida's ICU hospitalization status:
Even with adding new ICU beds, the availability has been going down. The number of patients currently in the ICU went up by 29% in just 3 days. And this is just the beginning of the current uptrend.

Where did you get these? I know there's been a move to block these sorts of numbers...

Florida added 6,093 additional cases of coronavirus. In Orange County: 283 total cases. 12.3% positive rate

If WDW becomes a super spreader event on steroids where tens of thousands of people take this home to Anytown, USA there will be a public outcry that will tarnish the brand for the near term and make even smart limited reopening impossible.

I also don’t believe a brand like WDW can’t raise emergency funding. If cruise lines, the floating Typhoid Mary of our time, can raise billions the Mouse will be fine.

I don't think that's an issue anymore. Between the daily large gathering protests and the convention, there wouldn't be a public outcry.

Well, I think WDW delayed opening to watch what Universal and SeaWorld outcomes would be... they are already open, and while I don't believe there has been no spreading of the virus at these places, there currently isn't a major outbreak linked to them. (Not that one couldn't be happening now.) But point being, there is no major public outcry for the other parks at the moment.

The Disney workers group is probably more organized than the other parks and can be more vocal about re-opening.. WDW is also trying to re-open in the middle of the spikes.. will be interesting to watch

That would be borderline Illegal/unconstitutional and definitely not feasible. The Federal government is the only entity that can regulate interstate travel and creating a locked quarantine zone would certainly stomp on many of the rights that reside with the states. Unlike China, our government doesn’t really have the power to do such a thing.
