GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

Agreed. I hope TPTB realize the new mask mandate will take a week or two to see results though.
It will be more than a week or two.

It took many areas 2 or 3 months to get numbers under control with full stay at home orders. Masks alone won't do much at all in just a couple of weeks.

I think the mortality rate will get marginally lower, because the age of people getting sick is a lot lower. Whether those people are going to be chronically or permanently ill, we don't know.
The thing many are forgetting is that regardless of the age of the majority getting ill...

1) those getting ill infect others - of any age

2) once hospitals are full, anything we know about who is likely to live or die is irrelevant as it changes everything if people can't get hospital care.

3) we still know very little about long term effects. There are articles out there suggesting even those with minor symptoms initially may have long term health impact from covid

Dying isn't the only bad effect of this disease so looking just at morbidity is not really useful. I expect to get out of this pandemic with 100% lung functionality and no lasting loss of any health, not merely still alive.

Our numbers in KY have been pretty good until the last week. Like we have less cases since the start than Fl had in the last two days (knock on wood)

You understand that most people WITH the disease have no signs of the disease, right?

And you want to quarantine everyone with underlying health conditions? Lol
You do realize I am not referring to those infected with the virus? bTw Who said that most people are asymptomatic?

I'm not for a mandatory quarantine at all. But some want to lock up everyone to protect those who are most vulnerable.

But people who look and feel perfectly healthy can be infected. So how does it help to only quarantine those w/underlying conditions?

There are have been published reports that as many as 10x (at least more than twice) of people have been infected. Presumably they are asymptomatic.
There may be some who have zero symptoms. We are seeing many positive cases with mild ailments such as sinus issues, headaches, diarrhea and loss of smell. Otherwise they don't feel unwell but DO have symptoms AND the virus.

Here's what I'm talking about...

So again, if there are that many people who are NOT quarantined (unless you think they're doing it on on their own), what good does it do to quarantine those with underlying medical conditions (which is what you suggested, or did I misunderstand)?

Exactly, if a person is that sick they should be sent to their hotel if they refuse to go to the hospital. The next day they shouldn't be at the parks either. This is why the parks shouldn't be open, people can't be trusted.
Exactly. I got sick on a cruise and they made me isolate in my cabin for 24 hours. That should be the minimum they make her do.

CNN posted an article this morning that studies show 40% of cases are asymptomatic. That is a large percentage.

And to be very clear, I don’t want to lock up everybody. But that doesn’t change that fact that 10,000 cases a day can and will spread an an exponential rate.

Well, people definitely aren't "locked up" in Texas, Florida, or Arizona, nor are there statewide mandatory mask requirements.

Not only are numbers getting high among the public, the vulnerable are getting sick in droves - and virtually all of them are locked down since most facilities haven't allowed visitors in months and it's only essential staff. And since most places are doing careful screening AND avoiding the lessons learned in the NE, it seems they're still having major issues with asymptomatic carriers community wide and within the staff at facilities given the horrific percentage increase in cases among some of the most vulnerable who have largely been well isolated.

Nursing home facilities are seeing 800-900% increases in Tampa, Houston, San Antonio, and Phoenix.

NEW: Houston & Tampa see 800% increase in nursing home cases. Phoenix 900%.

The just isolate the old strategy is not just a bad social strategy, it is hard to make work.

His tweet has segments of an WSJ journal embedded but that won't work well here, so here's that tweet with the quoted WSJ article and graphs, showing how much worse the trajectory is in these places, even in spite of the numbers in the NE where they also had the issue of elderly with Covid being discharged from hospitals and sent there because of hospital capacity numbers.
