Has Anyone Ever Been Grand Marshall Of A Parade? I Would Love To Do This But Dont Know How It Works!

Bump - I'd love to hear the answer to this one!

My DW and I got to be the grand marshalls on our honeymoon trip to Magic Kingdom in 2002. We had arrived just as the park opened and were just leisurely walking down main street when we were approaced by a cast member. His name was Brick and I wille never forget it. Super nice guy. Anyway, he asked us if we were ready for a magical day and of course we were. He chatted for just a few minutes and then asked if we would want to be part of the magic on that day. He said that he was looking for help in the parade and of course it was to be the grand marshall. My wife and I looked at each other and our mouths fell open and we couldn't believe it. We told Brick that we would love to and he went on and gave us details on where to be and so on.

I think the main thing is to enter the parks early, be excited to be there, and of course have the Disney stuff on. We had our bride and groom ears on that day which I'm sure helped.

Good luck Minnie of Two Mice

Although I had been "preparing" my grandchildren to smile when they entered Magic Kingdom, in hopes they might be picked...It never happened...But, when my sister and I went by ourselves...we were picked...It was around 10:30-11:00 and we stopped to ask a CM about Crystal Palace...After talking to her for awhile...telling her how often we come and how much we love it there...she told us part of her job was choosing the Grand Marshals

Our picture is below.....two little old ladies..."working the crowd"! :thumbsup2

This is the first time I have ever heard someone being picked that wasn't man and woman or man woman and 2 kids!

I had similar post as the OP a few months back and got some great respones. I will try to paste them here. I am a single mom w/DD and DM and was wondering if we could ever be picked!

Here are a couple of good responses:

Do you mean the MK afternoon parade? If so, we were asked to be the Grand Marshalls of that parade! We were in the MK before opening and while everyone was dashing to Tomorrowland for the rope drop, we were just enjoying Main Street. We had just started pin trading and I would ask every CM to look at their pins. As we were walking down Main Street, I asked a CM to see his pins. He did not have on the typical CM uniform. He had on a polo shirt and name tag. We started talking a bit as I noticed his name tag said he was from a town near where I grew up. He asked if we planned to stay in the MK all day (which I thought was an odd question!). Then, he asked if we wanted to be the Grand Marshalls of the parade. Well, Duh!!!!!! Of course our answer was yes! It was really cool. We received a certificate and Mickey ears with our names on the back. This was basically DH's dream come true as he always wanted to be one of those families announcing their names at the breaks of the televised holiday parades we always watch. You know what I'm talking about, the "Hi! We are the ______ family from _______, PA!" Well, at different parts throughout the parade, they make that announcement. All the spectators would look at us and wave like we were famous! They must have been scratching their heads when they got home and looked at their video footage wondering who the heck we were!

As your are walking down Main Street at the MK look for a 60ish cast member named Dean. He is the PR guy. Have a conversation with him. He is the guy who picks the Grand Marshals. It's an awsome experience!

apparently, the consensus is get to the park at opening, stroll along Main Sreet, take tim eto talk to CM's, wear Disney clothes (matching preferrably) and sprinkle some pixie dust!

On our honeymoon a couple weeks ago we were picked to be the Grand Marshalls. We walked into MK about 8:20 on an EMH morning. We didn't have the ears on but we did have the buttons on. DH was taking my pic on the castle and he came up to us and asked if he wanted one together -- we said sure got our pic and were about to wlka away. He asked us to come over to the side (by the Confectionary) and then asked us if we were on our honeymoon and if it was just us 2. I think you can't have more than so many in your party to get chosen (4?). He then asked us if we would like to have the honor of being the Grand Marshalls in the afternoon parade!
