Grand Gathering ?'s

Can someone explain to me how the GG's work. I've been to Disney several times but always with just my family. We will be going in November 2009 and are planning to stay at POR. It will be our family, my cousin's family, and my oldest dd's best friend. There will be 12 total and we will be needing 3 rooms.

I know you get a special # to use; I know you need to have at least 8 ppl in your party. I know I've got it too but don't know what to do with it! LOL

From what I've read, the International Dinner and IllumiNations Dessert Reception has only gotten lukewarm reviews, the Safari Celebration Dinner
is not available while we're in town, I don't have 8 ppl interested in going to Good Morning Character Breakfast in MK, the Magical Fireworks Voyage is something different (but not worth $44/pp to me), and as far as a custom event is concermed - I have a b'day party planned at WL for 18ppl so I guess I don't need them to do that for me either. So what do I get? Probably just a pin at the Guest Svcs. desk for everyone saying we're a "grand gathering!"
