Grand Gathering Room Requests done first?

but we also had two adults and two kids, requested connecting for dh/i/kids and even by separating us dramatically from my mom (and we were willing to be second floor) they *still* did not give us connecting rooms...

imo the room assigners fell short... i'm hard-pressed to believe that there was NOTHING they could do... we even offered to pay to upgrade to preferred if necessary and that was also a no-can-do...

i'll admit, it put a damper on our vacation... having to stay in a separate room from dh was a big bummer... basically dh had his own room and the kids/i shared the room next door... not a family vacation, imo...

1) It was nice she told you this.
2) However, not exactly accurate.
3) It is close, but not exact.
4) Before Grand Gatherings, come
. . . handicapped
. . . certain connecting rooms requests
. . . level 1 VIP's
. . . level 2 VIP's
. . . level 2 VIP's
. . . vice-president guests
. . . marketing dept guests
. . . purchasing dept guests
. . . travel agents, not considered as VIP
. . . others

5) You still have a good chance of being together.
6) In some cases, a good chance at get other requests

Well she got the first to right! My guess would be the VIPS' don't stay in a regular room at POR themselves- often, and the guests of VP, MD and PD I am guessing the same-- TA's maybe... that is the first I have heard about all of those people. oh well it is just wait and see when we get there.

I am just wondering did a CM share all this information with you? that is so detailed... I have found it takes the right CM to give you some info... they seem to guard some

That's per the manual, and the way I assigned rooms when I stood-in.

1) Actually, they frequently do stay in resorts other than Deluxe.
2) There are three classes of VIP's.
3) I won't mention what qualifies for any of the three groups.
4) But, you would be surprised who does qualify.
5) It is not necessarily a celebrity or wealthy person.
6) In fact, VIP's frequently stay in Value resorts.
7) Same thing goes for some special guests.

NOTE: If you see a person with a different color room key, they are usually either Club Floor or VIP-status. (Or, the resort temporarily ran out of the normal color room keys.)

I was told by a CM that Handicapped Accessible rooms were assigned first then all others fall behind them, didn't ask about GG. The last few times I have made a reservation it has been tagged as High Priority and was told today that is because my mom has to have a HCA room.

Suzanne
The handicapped accessible rooms (especially the ones with roll in showers) are actually blocked for you at the time of the reservation. Since many people can't even stay at the resort of they don't have an accessible room, it needs to be reserved for that person.
I wish they had child rooms that had the handicap sinks and toilets...etc. My back was killing me after lifting 3 kids up to brush teeth, wash hands and potty all week LOL Next year I'm taking our step we use at home for them, but did think it would be nice if they had young kid rooms or assigned us a handicap room if no one else was in line for it.
Actually, the handicapped toilets are higher, so even though we have a DD who is not able to use a wheelchair and doesn't walk, we didn't actually get a handicapped room until she was too big to lift into the tub.

Some of the handicapped rooms have a regular tub with grab bars. Some are fully accessible and have roll in showers and sinks that can be rolled under.
I am not saying this is true of all HC rooms, but the ones we have stayed in didn't have a lower sink, they were all at the height of the regular ones.
The sinks are not always lower, they just have a clear space underneath to drive a wheelchair underneath

See my earilier post. Because of the need for 1st floor rooms they most likely were not able to give you all rooms together. If on your check in day only one or two first floor rooms were available and they were the only rooms in that building then there is nothing they could have done to put you together. First floor for health reasons is a surprisingly common request and would be honored before GG.
They do block the accessible rooms at the time of the reservation.
The people who need the first floor for medical reasons have a lot more rooms to choose from, so they are not blocked at the time of reservation, but would be filled ahead of other requests for first floor.

This is all quite interesting. When we stayed at CSR last Sept, my DD was in a wheelchair. We requested a 1st floor room due to accessibility issues. We got 3rd floor in Casitas at the farthest possible point in the building from the elevator. I talked with the room assigner ahead of time and she assured me we would have no problems getting a first floor room with DD wheelchair bound. HA HA HA. Joke was on us. It was a less-than-pleasant experience wheeling her around tight corners and trying to get past housekeeping carts. Some days it took 10 minutes just to get to the elevator, then wait for it, then wind our way back through the resort to get to the bus stop.

After that experience, I don't believe that the room assigners even try to be accommodating.

I hope the OP has better luck with requests than we did.

That is unfortunate, sounds like the room assigner droped the ball. What did the front desk say when you told then the 3rd floor room wouldn't work and you hade to have a 1st floor hadicap room?

. . . I don't believe that the room assigners even try to be accommodating . .

1) They usually do try their best, with very few exceptions.
2) Sometimes, they just can't get it accomplished, regardless of effort.
3) Maybe all the accessible rooms were already assigned.
4) As an from real life example:
. . . the resort has 10 HC-accessible rooms
. . . 10 handicapped people checked-in 5-days ago for 6-nights
. . . the HC rooms aren't available for 2-nights
5) If you don't get the room, ask for a change as soon as possible.
6) Sometimes you can get changed in 1-2 nights.

NOTE: I know it sounds tough, but there are a lot of handicapped individuals that go to WDW, simply because it is so accessible. I have personally seen times when all HC rooms were occupied by truly handicapped or needy people.
