Grand Floridian stuck up? Your personal experiences?

I shop at Walmart and I also shop at Abercombie. I am staying at the GF in 2 weeks and have also stayed off site to save money. I have zero balances on my credit card and somepeople don't. Big Deal! I try everything once. Twice if I like it. All different people stay at all different places just to experience. It does not make a difference what you wealth is. Everyone should just enjoy their time with their family and not care what anybody else wears, owns, has or what they think somebody elses wealth status is. They may being staying RPC at GF and have outrageous credit card balances and not care. To each his own.
Well said! My Daddy taught me to love Big Lots and J Crew. I love the Beach Club but really wouldn't mind trying the Pop!

I don't think so. The majority of the folks staying there are just plain "joes" who like the themeing and not descendents of Margaret "those dreadful hillbillies" Drysdale! I think the elegance of the GF makes some feel it might be a bit stuffy, but we've never found it to be so.

The main thing which upset them is this guest said that since they were not staying at the Grand Floridian, they should leave so his family could have their table. While I am sure we have seen guests who stay at Resorts with popular restaurant demand to be seated because they are staying there, I have never heard of a guest telling a family because they are not staying there to leave. So let's leave it at.

The original poster's friends had every right to be upset. But, i can tell you now, in my experience it's not the people who are well off and used to staying in the expensive hotels all the time who would behave like that.

More often than not it's those who have maxed out on their credit cards and expect the hotel staff to treat them like God and wait on them hand and foot.

I have read many reviews on the Grand Floridian and the ones who whinge the most about silly little things are those who also complain about the price at the same time.

And I'm willing to bet that the obnoxious man the OP mentioned also fell into that category.

All I know is that I can't wait to visit the GF on my visit in December....first time at Christmas!
I will be on the look out for stuck up, snooty people...oh, who is that in the mirror??!! lol Just kidding folks!

So let's leave it at.
Before I go though, I have to say that personally, I would have been laughing hysterically at this guy, if he picked my family out of all those seated in the line ahead of him. And I would have given kudos to the Cafe staff for handling the situation with much more class than him. Their loss though, I'd visit Iggy at the Cafe every day of the week if I could. Now there's a Disney gem if I ever saw one.

Tammi I have no idea of the way the tables are arranged at the Grand Floridian Cafe, but our friends were not in line. They were sitting down at their table eating when this guest told them to leave so his family could have their table.

Jason, there's a podium at the front of the cafe. right at the edge of the back entrance lobby. Right behind that, there are columns and glass that blocks off the seated guests. The restaurant starts out fairly thin and rectangular shaped, before opening up into a gazebo type setting. Those guests waiting in the queue line, would physically have to enter the restaurant to accost someone sitting at a table. The closest table to the podium is probably about 25 feet away.

The more details you fill in, the more it appears that something was seriously wrong with this guy. To bypass the podium, enter a restaurant and start asking at tables who is a guest and who isn't, well, that goes way beyond rude and into the psycho category for me. I wouldn't be looking for hotel management to handle it at that point, I'd be calling the guys in the white coats. I'm sorry that these friends felt it was somehow the GF's fault or even took the guy at face value that he was even a guest there himself.

Guess these are good lessons that you're learning as you start down the road of hotel management. You'll be able to see things from both sides of the fence.

Like I said before I was just telling all of you the way they told us the story. I realize that I was not there to actually see what they described, however I have no reason to doubt them.

Stuck Up - No. But I also didn't think that staying there was anything special. I didn't think it would be, but my DH did and he was very disappointed. For us, we really didn't feel it was any different from the other places we stay.

We do love the Lobby and go there at least once each trip. We usually eat at one (or more) of the restaurants, too.

I've stayed at GF a couple of times and I've never experienced it as anything other than comfortable and the cast members have always been helpful and gracious. We've stayed at all resort levels and honestly, the only place I've received poor or downright rude service was ASMu. (not that the AS resorts are awful - we had great service at ASMo)
