Grand Floridian Or Poly

When my husband and I stayed at the GF (concierge) in Feb, we had the rudest CM experience. We had a question, so we went to the concierge on duty. He was reading. He looked up at us for a sec and then started reading again!!!
My husband said, "We hate to disturb your reading but we have a question." The CM slammed down his book and said "What?" Yes, we did complain. His attitude was as snotty as any I've ever seen in my life. A total jerk. The staff putting out the snacks also left a lot to be desired.
DH said never again.

Just my 2 cents here. Another thread yesterday had almost the same "theme".

For us its the Poly. Hands down.

BUT....why do all the "Red Roof Inn" lovers get all upset when someone refers to their favorite resort as "too uppity" for them.

Why do you care. Its an OPINION. Nothing more, nothing less.

I can honestly say, that someones opinion of the POLY being too dark, too Brady Bunch like, too smelly HAS ABSOLUTLEY NO BEARING on my opinion of the Poly.

These are opinions. There is alot more important things to worry about in this world.

So come on all, no need to get upset if someone is giving their opinion of the Poly and / or the GF if they haven't stayed there.

I was just giving my opinion that it SEEMS uppity to us the many times we have visited (which is what I stated in my post). We have no desire to stay there for that reason. If it is or isn't that way, that's fine; but for our family, we didn't have a good first impression when we visited for the first time, and the feeling has not changed over the years. I was merely giving my opinion of how the resort feels to us. Plus, I think people can still get a "feel" for a resort without having to actually stay a night....it's all in one's opinion and likes/dislikes.

The OP asks for input from people who have actually stayed at Poly or GF. Quoting from her original post here.

Why do I care? I don't really. The OP asked the opinions of those who stayed at BOTH resorts and what those particular people thought of each resort. If someone hasn't stayed at both ... kind of hard to give an honest to goodness opinion ..at least in my book.
My opinion of the poly was that the rooms were too dark for MY taste, the pool was too crowded (pretty but packed) FOR MY TASTE, the tropical theme Disney style was a little too retro FOR MY TASTE. The view is better at the poly of the castle.

As to the concierge staying, remember the GF offers 2 levels of concierge. There is a difference of almost $200 a day for those 2 levels of service. Royal Palms Court is where all the rich, famous and spoiled people stay. It is the most costly concierge level in all of Disney.
Sugar loaf cost a lot less and is a step down when it comes to concierge... BIG DIFFERENCES between the 2.
As the poly concierge cost less than both sugar loaf and Royal Palms court, someone who is looking at budget more would naturally look at the poly concierge. I am NOT saying the GF concierge is BETTER than the poly concierge as I have never stayed at the poly concierge so I can't intelligently give an opinion on it. I was just breaking down the pricing.

We all have resort (s) we love and resort (S) we hate. For me i hate AKL with a passion. I had a horrible experience there and refuse to ever go back. I know there are a million people on here who love AKL and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. If anyone would ask me my opinion of AKL they would get an earful

Tell ya what ... next time I am at the GF (in a few weeks) I will look out at the poly and give a little wave to you and wish you the most magical week possible ...and you can do the same for me :cloud9:

Having stayed at both resorts many times you can not go wrong with either, they are just very very different. One is a yacht and the other an outrigger. Both are fun, just different kinds of fun.

lee as someone else posted the rooms at the poly are dark and only have one sink. The grounds at both are beautiful. I would be happy with either one.

I dont think anyone got upset. The OP asked for advice from people who have stayed at both. There is nothing wring with anyones opinion, I wouldnt go to a thread and tell someone not to stay somewhere not having stayed there myself. But thats just me.

I think you are being alittle dramatic no one was mad, no one was rude. NO one said there arent more important things in the world.

Kinggoofy hit the nail on the head........too many people getting all upset and defensive because someone doesn't like their hotel of choice. Everybody has his/her own opinion and that's what the OP is looking for. Sorry to have upset a few of you for my "opinion" of a resort I've never stayed at, but have visited many times. And by the way.....your post states "stayed at Poly OR GF"....not AND, to quote you as stating from the OP's original post.

I am curious about something, when the discussion of the Grand Floridian comes up, you always get these comments about it being uppidity by people that have not stayed there and they admit they don't like it.

What I am confused about is this, if it is uppidity to someone and they can't recommend it to someone, why have they been over there many times. :confused3

Very good point Sammy. The GF main lobby is one of the places I try and avoid because there are so many vistors to it.
The place gets so packed during character meal times its hard for guest to find a spot to sit and enjoy the piano unless they are upstairs in Royal Palm Court.
To the vistors who only come for character meals, they might think that is how the GF is all the time. I am sure some of the Cm's get a little hectic trying to herd the crowds who are there for dinner and maybe they have to be a little bit tougher to make sure to keep the lobby clear for guest. Just a thought :confused3
That might be where some who haven't stayed get the uppidy feel. :confused3

Sammie, this is MY OPINION ONLY,

We have been at WDW for the Xmas season 5 times now. I can honestly tell you, the ONLY reason why we have visited the "RRI" (Red Roof Inn) during the xmas season is for the gingerbread house, the xmas tree and other xmas decorations. All of my other opinions aside, these xmas decorations are wonderful.

One other visit to the RRI occured in August 07. We were at the POLY and it was Sunday August 12th. I was looking for a sunday newspaper and the POLY was out and they called the RRI and they had one. I walk there to buy it.

To see if they change their views about it.

Praline3000,

your post stated that you try to "avoid" the lobby area due to all the visitors who come over from other resorts.....

maybe, just maybe, us "visitors" are disrupting your "down" time and its very annoying to you, hence, the "uppity" opinions from us "visitors" because we get the nasty looks from the "uppities".

Could not be further from the truth :rotfl2:
As I stated I avoid the main lobby during character meal times like the plague ...as do most of the other guest who are staying at the Grand Floridian. So I can promise you that no visitor has ever gotten an uppity attitute from me cause I AIN'TE THERE :rotfl2:
90% of the people in the lobby are visitors there for the character meals during that time so if you encounter anyone rude or uppidy they are from another resort :rotfl2:
As I stated, I know many of the guest I have spoken to are like me and avoid the main lobby ..... so chances are you dont encounter us on your visits.

The Grand Floridian is a big resort with lots of places for down time. I choose little spots like the marina, the gardens, the waterfall pool to relax and have my down time. :cloud9:

Celebrating my daughters 13th birthday, two other daughters are 14 and 12, they love BWV because of the constant activity, we want to try a new hotel and now I'm so confused. Pros and cons to both from anyone who stayed there would be a great help!:tinker:

Mickeynut,

Heres her original post - I was just quoting from memory, I didn't know I was being graded on grammar. You could have gone back and read it yourself, but as you can see no ors, ands, or buts. My point was that you have not stayed at the GF and the OP asked for experiences from people who have stayed.

Have a great day!

We stayed there and got the nasty looks or "Who the heck are you to be here attitude". Two nights was enough for me. The concierge staff looked down at us because we were transfers from the Polynesian.

I'll never forget this:
My DD asked one of the cm or workers for a soda at 8:00, she said no they are done serving for the night. I believe it closes at 9:00.

I'm confused Joanne. How would the lobby people know you were a transfer? Did you get it tattooed on your forehead? :rotfl2:

just kidding... but seriously I am not sure how the regular lobby staff would know as your ressies are confidental. :confused3

I am not saying you didnt have a bad stay. As I posted before we all have had a bad stay at one resort or another at Disney (for me AKL) but not sure if you being a transfer had anything to do with their attitude towards you unless the front desk whispered in everyone's ears ... hey be mean and rude to her ..she just stayed at the poly :rotfl2:
