Hello,
I was just curious about two things regarding the GF Gingerbread House.
-When is it usually put up?
-What do they sell inside?
If possible, how much does each little treat sell for?
*Thank You*

I believe it is put up right before Thanksgiving.
They sell pieces of gingerbread, gingerbread houses and lollipops inside.
With all due respect, it's a complete ripoff. A piece of gingerbread cost me about $7, and it wasn't even good. The houses cost about $85. Lollipops cost around $13. There were 3 people in line in front of me who asked the prices of something and ended up walking away.

They could have saved themselves a lot of time by just looking at the price board right by where the entrance to the line is. There were pictures of each item, and the price. I didn't buy anything because most gingerbread is too strong for me (we have a mild recipe we make for Christmas at home).

In their defense, I didn't notice it either.

It is a sight to behold and DD loves to find the Hidden Mickey's on it but the prices are steep. I paid about $10 for 2 of the smaller chocolate lollipops.

I wish they'd put the price list in a more prominent location and in a larger font so the line wouldn't get quite so long. I also saw several people walk away after hearing the prices. There was a family in front of me who asked how much just about every last item cost before settling on a few of the less expensive items. I don't blame them one bit but it was time consuming.

I bought a house ornament. It was expensive but very pretty. I missed the gingerbread mickey figures with an ear dipped in chocolate that were available in previous years.

I agree that the gingerbread is overpriced and not very good.

OP, the house was up right after Thanksgiving this year when DH and I went to dinner at the GF, if that helps.

With all due respect, it's a complete ripoff. A piece of gingerbread cost me about $7, and it wasn't even good.

We were there last weekend, and they were giving away sample-size pieces so you could taste it before deciding whether you wanted to buy any.

We were at Disney on Nov 4th thru 8th. We were at the Gf on the 7th and they were starting to put the house up then. Lots of people working on it.

Well, im thinking of bringing 150.00 for christmas presents. That should buy me a few gingerbread people...

THANKS!

Not to:stir: , but was anyone else very underwhelmed seeing the Gingerbread House in person after hearing all the hoopla? For some reason, after watching the Christmas Special on the Travel Channel, we were expecting alot more. It was pretty neat, but not worth going out of our way for.

:lmao: Were YOU the visitor I overhead saying "That's it?!? It's just a gingerbread house!" :rotfl:

It was worth the monorail ride for us to go see (and smell! :cloud9: ), but we had not been to the GF before so we enjoyed seeing that as well.

I think it's kind of neat to see the first tiem around, but now that I've seen it I wouldn't make a special trip to see it again.

I think that the Travel Channel shows often show things in a better light than what the public actually sees. JMHO.

We went to view the Gingerbread House last Saturday (our first time was in 1999) and enjoyed seeing all the details.

I posted these also on the POTD thread in Theme Parks and Attractions Board today but they might be of interest here also.

At the very top of the house:

I was surprised to find this scene on the back of the attic:

My $65 gingerbread house that I bought last year sat on my table all year long and was the centerpiece for Christmas dinner this year. We ate part of the chimney last year, but didn't even notice it was broken off.

I personally love the gingerbread house at the GF.

We were there a few weeks ago and it was worth the trip..The lobby is so beautiful anyway and we ate at Kona's then took the monorail over...

how big is the gingerbread house on a show it showed a huge ginger bread house with a train going around it.

The one at the GF is the size of a child's playhouse! There is no train running around it.

Does anyone have any idea as to when it comes down?

Actually it's larger than that, because there's room for three adults to sell gingerbread cookies and houses out of it. It's more like the size of a small one room cabin.

The one at the Boardwalk is the size of a childs playhouse. I'm not sure an adult could comfortably stand in that one.
